Beitr. 39/1 431-440 23.7.2007 Fauna and distribution of Bulgarian Cryptini (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, Cryptinae) J. KOLAROV & S. BORDERA A b s t r a c t : Faunistic data of 57 Cryptini species from Bulgaria are presented. Of them 8 species are new records for Bulgarian fauna. Schreineria populnea GIRAUD was reared from Saperda populnea L. K e y w o r d s : Bulgarian Cryptini, Ichneumonidae, faunistics, distribution. Introduction The tribe Cryptini includes most of the larger species of the biggest Ichneumonidae subfamily. It differs from the other Cryptinae by second recurrent vein (2m-cu) usually reclival and with one bulla, but sometimes vertical; propodeum with only two transversal carinae; if only one transversal carina is present, it is the basal carina; face of males frequently marked with white or yellow. Keys for the genera of Cryptini are given mainly by TOWNES (1970), HORSTMANN (1990, 1993) and some other authors. Cryptini are associated more often with foliage and they are parasitic in cocoons of Lepi- doptera, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, egg cocoons of spiders, etc. Data of Bulgarian Cryptini were published by GREGOR (1933), HEINRICH (1936), TSANKOV (1968), KOLAROV (1983, 1985), etc. Until now, 99 Cryptini species were reported in Bulgarian fauna. This is about 1/3 of known Bulgarian Cryptinae. In the present paper faunistic data of 57 Cryptini species from Bulgaria and Synechocryptus erberi nigrifemur SCHWARZ 2005 from Jordan are listed. Of them 8 species are new records from Bulgarian fauna (in the text they are marked by an asterisk). With this study the number of Bulgarian Cryptini arises to 107 species. One species was reared and the host is pointed out. The arrangement of the genera follows YU & HORSTMANN. (1997). The general distribution is mainly after YU et al. (2005). Material and Methods Material was collected using Malaise traps and sweeping with hand net in several parts of Bulgaria from 1976 to 2004. This study was carried out during a stay of first author from September to November 2006 in the Instituto de la Biodiversidad CIBIO (Univer- sity of Alicante, Spain). All material is preserved in the collection of J. Kolarov in Plovdiv. © Biologiezentrum Linz/Austria; download unter www.biologiezentrum.at 432 List of the species *Acroricnus seductor syriacus (MOCSARY 1883) M a t e r i a l : Trubatch, Razgrad distr., 19.06-3.07.1999, 1&. • Correlations of the Jurassic Sediments: Infra-Getic Unit
GEOLO[KI ANALI BALKANSKOGA POLUOSTRVA 67 19–33 BEOGRAD, decembar 2006 ANNALES GÉOLOGIQUES DE LA PÉNINSULE BALKANIQUE BELGRADE, December 2006 Tran-sborder (south-east Serbia/west Bulgaria) correlations of the Jurassic sediments: Infra-Getic Unit 1 2 PLATON TCHOUMATCHENCO , DRAGOMAN RABRENOVI] , 3 4 BARBARA RADULOVI] & VLADAN RADULOVI] Abstract. The Infra-Getic Unit is a palaeogeographic unit, predestined by palaeotectonics. From the point of view of geological heritage, it represents a geosites framework. For the purpose of the correlation, the Serbian sections of Lukanja, Bogorodica Monastery, Rosoma~ and Senokos, as well as the Bulgarian sections of Komshtitsa, Gintsi, and Stanyantsi were used. The Jurassic sediments of the Infra-Getic Unit crop out on the southern slops of the Stara Planina Mountain in east Serbia and west Bulgaria. The Lower Jurassic started with continental and continental-marine sediments (clays and sandstones) (Lukanja clastics and Lukanja coal beds in Serbia and the Tuden Formation in Bulgaria) and continue with Lukanja quartz sandstones (Serbia) and the Kostina Formation (Bulgaria). These sediments are covered by Lukanja brachiopod beds and Lukanja limestones (Serbia) and the Romanov Dol, Ravna and Dolni Loukovit Members of the Ozirovo Formation (Bulgaria) pre- dominantly consist of bioclastic limestones. The sedimentations follow with Lukanja belemnites-gryphaea beds (marls and clayey limestones), which in Bulgaria correspond to the Bukorovtsi Member (also marls and clayey limestones) of the Ozirovo Formation. The Middle Jurassic sedimentation started with black shales with Bossitra alpine. These sediments are individualized in Serbia as Senokos aleurolites and clays and in Bulgaria they are known as the Etropole Formation. In Serbia the section continues with sandstones called Vodeni~ki sandstones of Bajocian age, known in Bulgaria as the Dobrogled Member of the Polaten Formation.

  • Identification Key to the Subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera)
Identification key to the subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera) Gavin Broad Dept. of Entomology, The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, UK Notes on the key, February 2011 This key to ichneumonid subfamilies should be regarded as a test version and feedback will be much appreciated (emails to [email protected]). Many of the illustrations are provisional and more characters need to be illustrated, which is a work in progress. Many of the scanning electron micrographs were taken by Sondra Ward for Ian Gauld’s series of volumes on the Ichneumonidae of Costa Rica. Many of the line drawings are by Mike Fitton. I am grateful to Pelle Magnusson for the photographs of Brachycyrtus ornatus and for his suggestion as to where to include this subfamily in the key. Other illustrations are my own work. Morphological terminology mostly follows Fitton et al. (1988). A comprehensively illustrated list of morphological terms employed here is in development. In lateral views, the anterior (head) end of the wasp is to the left and in dorsal or ventral images, the anterior (head) end is uppermost. There are a few exceptions (indicated in figure legends) and these will rectified soon. Identifying ichneumonids Identifying ichneumonids can be a daunting process, with about 2,400 species in Britain and Ireland. These are currently classified into 32 subfamilies (there are a few more extralimitally). Rather few of these subfamilies are reconisable on the basis of simple morphological character states, rather, they tend to be reconisable on combinations of characters that occur convergently and in different permutations across various groups of ichneumonids.

The subfamily Cryptinae Kirby, 1837 is considered the largest group in the Ichneumonidae with more than 400 described genera including around 4500 species. The subfamily has a worldwide distribution and its members play a key role in the biological control as parasitoids of many important pests. The study provides a new and updated overview of the Slovakian ichneumonid fauna after 28 years. So far over 750 species of Ichneumonidae have been reported from Slovakia, including around 150 species in the subfamily Cryptinae. Our study presents a complete checklist of Cryptinae and adds 32 species to the Slovakian fauna. Keywords: Cryptinae, Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, parasitoids, Slovakia INTRODUCTION 1987), semiaquaticism (Frohne, 1939), and even echolocation (Quicke, 2014).

  • The Hymenoptera of a Dry Meadow on Limestone
POLISH JOURNAL OF ECOLOGY 47 1 29--47 1999 (Pol. J. Ecol.) W em er ULRICH Nicholas Copemicus University in Torun Department of Animal Ecology 87-100 Torun. Gagarina 9: Poland e-mail: ulrichw @ cc.uni.torun.pl 'I'HE HYMENOPTERA OF A DRY MEADOW ON LIMESTONE: SPECIES COMPOSITION, ABUNDANCE AND BIOMASS ABSTRACT: In 1986 and 1988 the hymenopterous fauna of a semixerophytic meadow on lime stone near Gottingen (FRG) was studied using ground-photo-eclectors. A total of 4982 specimens be longing to 475 different species \vere collected. Extrapolations from double-log functions revealed that there may be as many as 1330 parasitoid species present per year. 455 of the 475 species were parasito ids. 155 of them attack dipterans. 48 lepidopterans. 36 beetles. 23 wasps, 22 plant hoppers and 13 ap hids. 47 of the species are egg-parasitoids and parasitoids of miners. ectophytophages count for 44 of 2 the \V asp species. The abundance of the wasp fauna was rather high ( 1120 ± 53 in d. m- a- I ( 1986) and 2 1 335 ± 42 ind. m - a- ( 1988). Most abundant were the parasitoids of miners, gall-makers and the egg parasitoids. Compared \vith the high abundance the biomass was low. In 1986 the wasps weighed a total 2 1 2 1 of 194 ± 24 n1gDW m- a- and in 1988 only 69 ± 20 mgDW m- a- . The parasitoids of ectophytopha gous lepidopterans and coleopterans counted for n1ore than half of the whole biomass. KEY WORDS: Hymenoptera. parasitoids. faunal composition, density, biomass. species numbers, local extinction. 1. INTRODUCTION The insect order Hymenoptera is the species is very limited.

Kasparyan started his extensive study of Mexican Icheumonidae in 1998 as a profes- sor of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas in Cd. Victoria, Mexico. From 2000 to 2013, he has published two monographs and 38 journal articles on Mexican Ichneumonidae, where he described 7 new genera and 168 species and subspecies belonging to 10 subfamilies of Ichneumonidae, and provided a large number of new faunistic and host records. All new genera and 83 % of described species and sub- species belong to the Cryptinae, one of the most difficult, in terms of identification, and poorly known ichneumonid subfamilies. At the present day, as a result of work by D.R. Kasparyan and collaborators, over 1300 species and 343 genera belonging to 28 ichneumonid subfamilies are known from Mexico. Here we provide a complete list of new taxa described by D.R. Kasparyan from Mexico, all his mono- graphs and journal articles on Mexican Icheumonidae, and the most important publications in memoirs and collections of papers.
