ŠKODA MOTORSPORT PRESS RELEASE Page 1 of 4 Rally Sweden: ŠKODA privateer Emil Lindholm leads WRC3 – Oliver Solberg with good ŠKODA debut › ŠKODA privateer Emil Lindholm and co-driver Mikael Korhonen head WRC3 category after the first competitive day of Rally Sweden, they are also quickest among the Rally2 cars › 18 years old Oliver Solberg and co-driver Aaron Johnston delivering a good performance on their debut with the ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo › At the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship 2020 in Sweden the road conditions with a mix of ice, gravel and snow are a real challenge for the crews Torsby, 14 February 2020 – This year’s Rally Sweden (13/02/–16/02/2020) provides the most challenging road conditions since decades. Due to unseasonal warm weather and a lack of snow in the Värmland region of Sweden and across the border in Norway, the itinerary of the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship had to be shortened. The stages are providing a mix of gravel, ice and a thin layer of snow. After the Friday leg, Finnish ŠKODA privateers Emil Lindholm/Mikael Korhonen lead the WRC3 category and are the quickest among the teams in Rally2 cars. Oliver Solberg (SWE) and co-driver Aaron Johnston (IRL), debuting at Rally Sweden in a ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo which is run in a cooperation between Solberg’s own team and ŠKODA Motorsport, are showing a good performance. This time, no snow banks line the tracks, which normally allow the drivers a special cornering style, leaning the car on them in order to achieve higher speeds.

  • Michelin's Studded Tyre Range Covers All the Bases in Mixed Conditions
MEDIA INFORMATION 2018 FIA World Rally Championship Round 2/14: Rally Sweden Michelin’s studded tyre range covers all the bases in mixed conditions Once again, Rally Sweden lived up every bit to its promise, despite crews having to cope with a taxing blend of ice, snow and exposed gravel. As usual, fans turned out in huge numbers and flocked to the event’s famous spectator spots like ‘Colin’s Crest’ where the cars take off and perform spectacular leaps of up to and more than forty metres. To help them rise to the challenge posed by this year’s Rally Sweden, Michelin provided its WRC partners with the MICHELIN X-Ice North 3 equipped with 384 studs to bite into the frozen ground. Meanwhile, its partners competing in the WRC2 Pro (for factory teams) and WRC2 (privateers) classes ran the MICHELIN X-Ice NA01, a brand new studded tyre designed specifically for championship’s R5 cars. “In the end, the conditions were better than we had been expecting,” observed Arnaud Rémy, the manager of Michelin’s rally programmes. “By that I mean they were colder and more typical than the forecasts had led us to believe. There were fewer portions of exposed dirt than some had been predicting, too. For sure, the coating of ice was quite thin at times but our studs stood up better than some drivers had anticipated through the more challenging potions. Indeed, thanks to the exclusive studding technique we employ [see below], our tyres hardly lost any studs at all and the lack of grip that was reported at times was due more to the presence of water and slush.

FACTBOOK 2019 WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / PROGRADE PHOTO OF THE YEAR WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / INTRO WRC FACTBOOK 2019 The 2018 WRC season will be remembered as the most exciting and dramatic in a generation. It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years.
