Mai 2017, 20:00 Infos & Karten => www.jazz-mainz.de/Scotty.html Scott Henderson (guitar) Romain Labaye (bass) Archibald Ligonnière (drums) SCOTT HENDERSON (guitar) Born in 1954, Scott Henderson grew up in an era where blues-rock was at it's peak. His formative musical years took place in South Florida where he played the clubs with various bands, playing everything from Led Zeppelin to James Brown. As he was learning his instrument, Henderson was influenced by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, and his favorite blues guitarist Albert King. Even though Henderson claims to be more of a blues-rock player, it was the influence of jazz that led him to the style of playing and composing that he is now famous for. Scott studied arranging and composition at Florida Atlantic University, then moved to Los Angeles in 1980. He toured and recorded with Chick Corea's Elektric Band, violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, and was pleased to get the opportunity to work for four years with one of his favorite musicians, Weather Report's Joe Zawinul. He recorded two albums with the Zawinul Syndicate, "The Immigrants" and "Black Water". Henderson formed the legendary band Tribal Tech in 1984 with bassist Gary Willis, and recorded ten critically acclaimed albums. The most recent recording is "Tribal Tech X" released in March 2012. In 1991, Scott was named by Guitar World as the #1 Jazz Guitarist, and in January 1992, he was named #1 Jazz Guitarist in Guitar Player's Annual Reader's Poll.

  • Kinesthetics by Bill Milkowski, Jazztimes
SCOTT KINSEY: Kinesthetics by Bill Milkowski, JazzTimes Since 1991, keyboardist Scott Kinsey has been the secret weapon of Tribal Tech, one of the premier bands on the fusion scene. A remarkably distinctive soloist with a unique harmonic sensibility and a wholly inventive approach to synthesizers, Kinsey has an uncanny knack for making technology sound organic and orchestrating in the moment. As Tribal Tech ringleader explains, “Scott has been such a big influence on the direction that Tribal Tech has taken. Before we met him all we really had was a band that played tunes the way they were written out. But Kinsey was a major reason for us getting to that point of being able to throw the charts away and just jam right in the moment, because he could do it so well and pull it off every time. It wasn’t until I played with Scott that I realized how loose it can be and still sound totally together. Because he would be pulling out so much cool stuff to listen to that you didn’t need a note of written music. Kinsey’s such a great improvising musician but he also brings a real sense of form and harmony to it so that you can just jam freely and know that it’s always gonna sound cool.” Whether he’s improvising strictly in the moment with loops, concocting provocative tones and textures or carving out new sonic territory on his Nord Lead synthesizer, Kinsey’s presence invariably elevates the proceedings of every situation he finds himself in.

  • Jazz Rock Fusion Surviving Four Decades and Counting…
1 of 38 Jazz Rock Fusion Surviving Four Decades and Counting… By, Rick Calic www.jazzrockworld.com March 2006 Writing an article about Jazz Rock Fusion these days might seem as pointless as debating the benefits of Hi-Fi equipment with vacuum tubes vs. transistors to someone that uses an iPod. The only people that would care are older folks who even remember tubes and dedicated enthusiasts. On the other hand, while Jazz Rock Fusion might be older or seem equally pointless to many reading this article, there remains a large but scattered segment of the world’s population that sees the genre as a vibrant and legitimate art form. Sadly though, the musical perspective regarding Jazz Rock Fusion was narrow from the beginning and will probably always be that way. Jazz Rock Fusion, in terms of the entire world of music, constitutes just a tiny fraction of interest. Yet, if we accept this as fact, which most fans, musicians and certainly “big business” does, the generation of any interest at all is meritorious. In order to discuss the music with integrity, a ground rule needs to be established. This ground rule is required due to the unsolved, long lasting, and ongoing mysteries of the music and its unique identity. Mysteries such as: What is Jazz Rock Fusion? Who started Jazz Rock Fusion? What should it be called? And finally, with no major media support why is there still a market? So, what are the answers you ask? Quite simply these mysteries will remain mysteries. Answering the questions definitively will end up as trivial as the facts regarding the creation and development of the gut bucket.
