It requires insane strength, quickness, balance, and control… I've always found success in sports by outworking the competition. That is how I intend to approach Sochi. ”Evan is looking to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia where he will attempt to become the first man to win back-to-back Olympic figure skating titles in more than half a century. Personal Evan began skating at age eight and went on to becoming the reigning Olympic champion. He captured the gold medal at the 2010 Games, the first American in 24 years to hold the prestigious title. Evan’s time off the ice is equally noteworthy. In April 2012 he was appointed a sports envoy by the U.S. Department of State, a position in which he engages overseas youth in positive dialogue on the importance of education, positive health practices and respect for diversity. In 1979 he became the first junior and only the second person to land a triple axel in competition. He would later achieve distinction by becoming the first to perform a triple axel in combination. Orser won his first medal at the World Championships--a bronze--in 1983. In the Olympic Games of 1984 in Sarajevo he skated for silver. When the Olympics opened in Calgary in 1988, Orser was honored by being chosen to lead the Canadian delegation as flag-bearer. -

Második a későbbi háromszoros világbajnok osztrák Gustav Hügel lett. A harmadik helyen pedig az a német Gilbert Fuchs végzett, aki 12 évvel később ugyanitt, a 13. Európa-bajnokságon másodikként zárt. Hajós Alfréd, az első magyar olimpiai bajnok visszaemlékezésében így írt erről a napról: „Csikorgó hideg volt, de anyám tilalma ellenére elszöktem otthonról. Jóval a verseny kezdete előtt az épülő híd pillérein a legjobb helyet biztosítottam magamnak. Dideregve vártam a versenyt, de azután földöntúli boldogságot éreztem akkor, amikor Földváry diadalmaskodott. The 2013 event will take place from December 5-8, 2012 at Co-operators Centre at Evraz Place. The 2014 event will run from December 4-7, 2013. Regina hosted the event for the first time in December of 2011. “We are really looking forward to heading back to Regina for the next two years. Last year the city and Evraz Place were wonderful hosts. It’s a great venue and provides everything we need to host an event of this importance and magnitude,” said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO. Over 500 skaters will participate in the event. All skaters will have to qualify through their respective sectional championships in order to compete at this event. This is the only opportunity for novice, junior and senior skaters to qualify for the 2013 and then the 2014 Canadian Figure Skating Championships. “Evraz Place, along with its community partners, the Regina Hotel Association and the Regina Opportunities Commission is proud to secure two more years for this major national competition. Hundreds of people from across Canada will come to Regina to experience Regina's warm hospitality, facilities and services.
