Personal Evan began skating at age eight and went on to becoming the reigning Olympic champion. He captured the gold medal at the 2010 Games, the first American in 24 years to hold the prestigious title. Evan’s time off the ice is equally noteworthy. In April 2012 he was appointed a sports envoy by the U.S. Department of State, a position in which he engages overseas youth in positive dialogue on the importance of education, positive health practices and respect for diversity. Evan also gives his time and talents to organizations including Figure Skating in Harlem, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Ronald McDonald House.
