7 eMoviePoster.com's great February Major Auction ends the 18th, 20th & 23rd! Our 2,667 wonderful consignors REALLY came through for us in our February Major Auction, and it is crammed full of exceptional movie (and non-movie) paper, and LOTS of it is "new to the market" (either we have not auctioned before, or it has been many years since we auctioned it before)!

Part I (ends Tuesday, February 18th): 486 linenbacked posters (all of which ship rolled in standard size tubes)

Part II (ends Thursday, February 20th): 205 backed and unbacked items that ship in oversized tubes or flat packages

Part III (ends Sunday, February 23rd): 321 unbacked items that ship in standard tubes or flat packages

8 What distinguishes OUR major auctions from other major auctions? Only the lack of any reserves or buyers premiums, honest condition grading, and unenhanced super-sized images! You will find an amazing "supermarket" selection of great posters from all years, genres, and countries!

PLUS, we are the ONLY major auction that completely honestly describes the "pre-restoration" condition of all restored items. This is especially important when you are buying linenbacked posters, because restorers are SO talented these days that they can take an incomplete poster and make it look like a complete poster that had minor restoration, and it can take a top auctioneer with decades of experience to see through this, and sadly many auction companies do not have such an expert, and they sometimes (knowingly or unknowingly) auction heavily restored posters WITHOUT disclosing the extent of the restoration. We know this because over and over we have been consigned restored posters that collectors bought from other auctions, and they are shocked when they learn the true condition of those items.

But with us, you never have to fear of being sold an over-graded restored poster! That is not only because I (Bruce Hershenson) personally grade EVERY restored poster (and I have graded more of them than any person in history!), but also because we alone, among all major auctions, offer a LIFETIME GUARANTEE on EVERY restored item we auction. If you find undisclosed restoration in any item you buy from us (either immediately or years later), you can return it for a full refund, and NO other major auction anywhere in the world (not just poster auctions) offers you that!

When you buy expensive posters and lobby cards at auction, don't you want to deal with the auction that treats you 100% honestly in every respect? Best of luck to all of you who bid in our February Major Auction!

There has NEVER been a better time to collect vintage movie posters and related movie paper! Why? Sure, prices were lower decades ago, but they were not that much lower on many items (a surprising number of really fine posters can be purchased now at similar prices to that realized ten or twenty years ago, not even accounting for the massive inflation since that time). But more importantly, back in the day, an average collector could likely never hope to get a chance to purchase a top quality one-sheet, because, in those pre-auction days, most top posters went directly to top private collectors, and were never offered publicly. But NOW, not only is there a level playing field, where ALL collectors get an even shot on buying each and ever poster. but there is also ONE auction house (us) that does not play games with its customers. NO deceptive buyers premiums,. NO often hidden reserves, NO deceptive or inaccurate grading, NO altered or fuzzy images. Just completely honest condition descriptions, including the pre-restoration condition, all done by the man who has graded more movie memorabilia than anyone else in the world, Bruce Hershenson!

Ewbank's The Surrey Auction House will present their W. E. Berry Original Poster Artwork Unreserved Auction on February 28, 2020 at 12:00 p.m.

W.E. Berry led the way for 75 years, with designs for Disney, Rank, Universal, Columbia Pictures and Ealing Studios. Bradford-based W. E. Berry Ltd was a leading producer, printer and distributor of film posters for more than 75 years from the 1920s. Initially working with Paramount, the company produced designs for the Ealing Comedies, Rank’s overseas posters, Disney, Columbia Pictures and Universal Studios, as well as for railway companies and Bertram Mills Circus.

Notable films for which W. E. Berry produced posters include The Ten Commandments (1923), Oliver Twist (1948), up the Khyber (1968), Star Wars (1977) and Flash Gordon (1980).

The company continued to flourish until financial difficulties led to its going into administration early in the 2000s and it closed in 2004.

13 The company continued to flourish until financial difficulties led to its going into administration early in the 2000s and it closed in 2004. Now Ewbank’s Auctions are selling a large selection of original poster artwork from W. E. Berry in a dedicated sale on February 28 under the title The W.E. Berry Movie Poster Artwork Collection. Ewbank’s specialist Alastair McCrea says: “This is a particularly interesting collection because it includes hand- painted artwork related to the Bradford firm of W.E. Berry, one of only three printers in Britain that specialised in printing large posters for cinemas.” In fact, The National Science and Media Museum has an archive of W.E. Berry posters and Ewbank’s are expecting further institutional interest at the sale. Highlights include original hand- painted artwork for the 1954 film Creature from the Black Lagoon (estimate £2000- 4000), another for the 1955 Ealing comedy The Ladykillers, starring Alec Guinness (£1000-1500) and another for the 1953 Ealing comedy The Titfield Thunderbolt (£800-1200). “Talk about rarities,” says McCrea. “It’s one thing getting your hands on the posters, but to be able to offer the original hand-painted artwork is incredibly rare.” CLICK HERE TO VIEW CATALOG.

25 THE 2020 WINTER POSTER

COLLECTION IS HERE

You can go straight to the BLOG here

Dear Posterophiles.

The BLOG is back!

I had redacted it prior to the sad passing of KIRK DOUGLAS, whose incredible acting legacy and particularly his role as Einar in The Vikings, has single handedly given me the love for History, epic battles and Technicolor Cinema. He will be honored in the next Blog.

MARILYN MONROE is another Giant movie icon whom would have reached 104 this year.

Norma Jean Baker, born in 1926, renamed himself as Marilyn Monroe. A double letter moniker who made her The most famous blonde bombshell of the 20th Century (ahead of another double letter blonde star Brigitte Bardot - BB) as she effortlessly expressed overt sensuality, luminous joy, fake ingenuity but also genuine sadness as her life was riddled with personal dramas including her passing in 1963 which still to this day remains a source of mysteries, conspiracy theories and loss for all cinema lovers.

While she was an icon worldwide, I humbly think her stardom in Japan is unequalled as proven by the incredibly beautiful images created, designed and printed there to advertise her movies.

THIS WEEK'S BLOG (click here) is presenting several of those magnificent images in 10 different entries featuring vintage and later posters, all contributing to making her shine forever.

Here's just one them you will find in the Blog: The beautiful portrait which ornate the cover of the vintage original Japanese movie program for The Prince And The Showgirl.

26 WHAT'S NEW THIS WEEK?

* NEW ITEMS: The 2020 WINTER COLLECTION, strong of 800 posters (many having sold already) is available in the NEW PRODUCTS section. Here is a selection of 20 images.

27 We start with Kirk Douglas as the heroic, jolly humored sailor in Walt Disney's 20000 Leagues Under The Sea. Here he is in the complete set of 8 Italian posters printed for the 1973 rerelease (we also have the 1963 set).

A Blonde star who has been often compared to MM is Debbie Harry, better known as the lead singer of Blondie. Here she is on a rare vintage 1979 personality poster

At the Gallery we love women, whether Blonde, red haired or Brunettes but I must admit we have a particular bias and fondness for . You can easily understand why by admiring her frolicking in the surf on this 1971 personality poster.

Another one of our favorites is Natalie Wood who never shied of displaying her perfect figure, especially in the 1962 Showgirl drama, Gypsy. This colorful Finnish movie poster is a true rarity.

28

Let's relax in the sun, with protection, like this gorgeous model on the large Swiss advertising poster for the Delial sun tanning lotion brand.

More serenity and relaxation demonstrated by the most famous dog, Snoopy, with this now impossible to find limited edition print by Laurent Durieux.

Love needs passion and Louis Malle certainly portrayed that in his 1958 drama, Les amants (The Lovers), as shown on the stunning vintage US half sheet poster.

Aretha Franklin's 1972 concert / documentary, Amazing Grace was the best movie I've seen last year as it shows the genuine sheer power of religious Music (in this case Gospel) that can touch even the most agnostic people.

29 Modern posters and designs can enhance the essence of vintage movies. The 2018 Japanese rerelease poster of The Deer Hunter does exactly just that.

Sex and humor go together well especially on this very rare vintage 1967 headshop poster from the famous Pandora series advertising This Is National Sex Week.

Sean Connery's name will always be James Bond all over the world even in Thailand whose standout artist Tongdee painted that fantastic image for the release of Never Say Never Again.

Before it was titled The Return Of The Jedi, the 3rd Star Wars movie was known as Revenge Of The Jedi. The few advance/teaser posters printed with that title were quickly recalled and now command several thousand dollars. The large sized Japanese poster is a must have

After Raquel Welch, Lynda Carter is one my all time favorite beauties. Here she is on the hard to find 1977 personality poster released around the success of the Wonder Woman TV series.

More feminine beauty with another gorgeous "specimen" of the higher sex gender with Catherine Deneuve, elegant and luminous on the Japanese Press poster for the 1969 romantic comedy, The April Fools. 30 Susan Denberg was a sculptural sacrificial lamb in the 1967 Hammer Films' Frankenstein Created Woman as shown on the ultra rare Italian poster.

Another magnificent example of Otl Aicher's genial designs from his 1972 Munich Olympics poster series is the large poster for the Boxing discipline.

Boxing skills wouldn't be enough if you wanted to survive in the iron age as the splendid painting by Renato Casaro used for the French release of the 1983 Italian Fantasy movie, Ironmaster (La guerra del ferro) proves.

Music and specifically Jazz is always a sure remedy to soothe barbarian temptations! Particularly with designs such as this one by Wolf Dieter Zimmermann for the 9th Amateur German Jazz Festival.

31 A splendid limited edition print on foil paper by Tracie Ching revisiting 2001: A Space Odyssey, the sci-fi masterpiece directed by Stanley Kubrick.

Swissair's 1971 Airview poster series by photographer Georg Gester and designer Emil Schultess is one of the most sought after. We are proud to offers several posters including the one advertising travels to the USA.

32 Prop Store presents a fundraiser for Rancho Obi-Wan: Death Star Auction

From an illuminated Dagobah garden to an exploded mask, from a Fabergé -style egg to a dianoga’s lair, and from R2-D2 to Scarif’s Citadel Tower from Star Wars: Rogue One, artists have turned 30 10-inch high resin replicas of the Death Star into ingenious and in some cases automated works of art in a fundraiser for Rancho Obi- Wan.

The auction is being run by Prop Store, the well-known London and Los Angeles based seller of pop culture memorabilia. The online sale runs from Feb. 10 to Feb. 21, 2020 and will support Rancho’s mission of using its collection to inspire others to be imaginative, creative, learn new crafts and gain knowledge.

33 “We couldn’t be more thrilled with the Death Star replicas that Star Wars artists and fans have contributed to our auction following in the tradition of artists’ reworking of Darth Vader, Stormtrooper and other helmets,” says Steve Sansweet, head of Rancho Obi-Wan. “We also want to thank our friends at Prop Store for donating their time and bandwidth to run the auction.”

You can register now to be ready to bid on February 10th. Click below:
