About center

Buddhist Studies Center was established in the University campus under scheme of “Epoch Making Social Thinkers of India” of University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi during XIth plan period (2009-2010 to 2011-2012) in the year 2010 to disseminate thoughts of Lord Gautam Buddha (acknowledged world’s first scientist) to the community by arranging lectures, seminars, workshops and simpatico programs. The center was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Sukhdeo Thorat (Chairman, ICSSR, New Delhi and Ex-Chairman, UGC, New Delhi) on December 31, 2011. Presently, center is being run by University by making a financial provision from University General Fund.

The aim of center is to promote understanding of the importance of Buddhist insights across a wide disciples and to work in association with other centers (on and off campus) to apply Buddha’s scientific approaches to contemporary issues to lay a platform for progress and harmony in peaceful environment.

Objectives

To inculcate Buddha’s scientific and secular values among peoples. To spread Buddha’s teaching to achieve environment full of friendliness, equality and peace. To make aware people about the Four Noble truths-

1. The Noble Truth of Dukkha - stress, unsatisfactoriness, suffering; 2. The Noble Truth of the causal arising of Dukkha, which is grasping, clinging and wanting; 3. The Noble Truth of Nirvana, The ending of Dukkha. Awakening, Enlightenment. "Mind like fire unbound"; 4. The Noble Truth of the Path leading to Nirvana or Awakening.

The Noble Eightfold Path-

1. Right Belief (in the Truth) 2. Right Intent (to do good rather than evil) 3. Right Speech (avoidance of untruth, slander and swearing)

4. Right Behaviour (avoid blameworthy behaviours) 5. Right Livelihood 6. Right Effort (towards the good) 7. Right Contemplation (of the Truth) 8. Right Concentration (will result from following the Noble Eightfold Path)

The Five Precepts-

1. Abstaining from killing living beings; 2. Abstaining from taking that which not given; 3. Abstaining from sexual misconduct; 4. Abstaining from false speech; 5. Abstaining from distilled substances that confuse the mind. (Alcohol and Drugs)

Painting competition for children in age group of 7 to 15 years arranged on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima May 26, 2021. Paintings on “Important events in Buddhas life” were called online and 111 participants were participated. First prize was won by Master Neev Nandeshwar, second by Miss Dipali Padmakar Gajbhiye and third by Miss Gargee Ganesh Meshram.

On September 29, 2019 a one day workshop on “Brahmi Lipi” was organised in collaboration of Yuva Manch, Amravati. Hon’ble Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rajesh Jaipurkar chaired inaugural session and inaugurated the workshop. Mr. Pravin Chavhan, Chief Conservator of Forests, Amravati was a chief guest for inaugural function. Mr. Sureshkumar Ingole, Rtd. Dy. Commissioner, Pune, Mr. Chandrashekhar Khandare, Finance & Account Officer, Z.P. Yavatmal, and Mr. Vijay Salve, Dy. Commissioner, Social Welfare Dept., Amravati have graced the function as guest. Mr. Atul Bhosekar and Ms. Maitreyi Bhosekar were main speaker and they guided participants on topics Buddhist culture/बौ� संस्कृत and Brahmilipi/�ाि�लीपी. They had given training on Brahmilipi/�ाि�लीपी.

On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima on May 18, 2019, a colour filling competition (for children up to 7 years) and painting competition (for children 7-10 years) were arranged to motivate children to learn and know about Lord Buddha.

The inauguration function was held under the chair of Dr. Rajesh Jaipurkar, Honorable Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati and in the presence of Dr. Dinkar Raut (Registrar) and Dr. Ravindra Mundre (Senate Member). Around 90 children and people were present. The function was started with Buddha Vandana and introductory remarks by Dr. Gajanan Muley (Coordinator, BSC) followed by speech by Chairperson Dr. Rajesh Jaipurkar, (Honorable Pro-Vice-Chancellor). Prof. Vinod Nagale concluded the function with vote of thanks. Dr. Vaishali Dhanvijay has anchored the program.

On March 19, 2019 an Elocution Competition was organised in collaboration with Dr. Ambedkar Studies Center and Dr. Ambedkar Thoughts Department, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. An interactive session was organised on February 24, 2019 for students, teachers and general public. In this session, Dr. R. L. Parwatkar-Wankhade, Associate Professor, Pali Department, Takshashila College, Amravati was presented and guided participants. She talked on Buddhist Philosophy. Dr. Kishor Raut was present as a chairperson of program. Mr. Pawan Tayade has conducted whole program. 36 participants have attended session.

The conference was held during February 02-03, 2018 at Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati 444602 MS INDIA. The conference was inaugurated on February 02-03, 2018 at 11.00 am at the hands of Dr. Avinash Dolas, Aurangabad. The Inaugural function was chaired by Dr. Muralidhar Chandekar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati and Dr. A. P. Deshmukh, Registrar, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati as a Guest of Honor was present for the inauguration. Dr. G. G. Muley had given introductory speech giving information about Center and introduction to guest present for the conference. Prof. V. K. Nagale had expressed vote of thanks. The ISBN numbered proceeding was unveiled at the hands of dignitaries on the dais. Followed by inauguration, Dr. Avinash Dolas had delivered a key note address on the topic, “बुद्धांचे तत्व�: आज �वश्वाची गर”. Total 89 participants, invited speakers and resource persons were present for the conference. During A two days deliberation total 06 invited talks and 02 poster presentation and 02 oral presentation sessions were arranged. The details about invited talks and respective chairpersons are given in Table 1. Total 72 papers were received and accepted for poster presentations. All the papers were accepted for publication in the ISBN numbered proceedings book. The conference was concluded with valedictory function at 4.30 pm on February 03, 2018. The function was chaired by Dr. Rajesh Jaipurkar, Hon’ble Pro-Vice-chancellor, Chief Guest was Dr. Deepak Gaykwad and Guest of Honour was Dr. Sahshikant Aswale (Finance and Account Officer). Dr. G. G. Muley had summarized the proceedings of the conference and Prof. V. K. Nagale presented vote of thanks.

The conference was inaugurated on March 12, 2016 at 10.00 am at the hands of Dr. Nitin Raut, Ex-Minister for EGS and Water Conservation, Ex-Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy development & Fisheries, Ex-Minister of State for Home, Prison, State Excise and Labour, . The Inaugural function was chaired by Dr. V. S. Sapkal, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati and Dr. A. P. Deshmukh, Registrar, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati as a Guest of Honor was present for the inauguration. Dr. G. G. Muley had given introductory speech giving information about Center and introduction to guest present for the conference. Prof. V. K. Nagale had expressed vote of thanks. The ISBN numbered e-conference proceeding was unveiled at the hands of dignitaries on the dais. Followed by inauguration, Dr. Nitin Raut had delivered a key note address on the topic, “Buddhist Personal Law”. Total 256 delegates (224 paid registrations, 44 free registrations for committee members and students working for conference) and invited speakers and resource persons were present for the conference. Total 149 papers were received and accepted for poster presentations. All the papers were accepted for publication in the ISBN numbered e-proceedings book. An invited lecture by Ven. Bhante Anand on “Buddha’s Scientific Thoughts” was arranged in University Audio Visual Theater on November 05, 2015 at 12.00 noon. Dr. Mohan Khedkar, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati have presided over a function. Around 150 participants all over from university campus and city were present. The function was started with introduction by Dr. Gajanan Muley (Coordinator, BSC), followed by invited lecture by Ven. Bhante Anand and speech by Chairperson Dr. Mohan Khedkar, (Honorable Vice-Chancellor). Mr. Vikas Pahurkar concluded the function with vote of thanks. Prof. Yuoraj Tamgadge has anchored the program.

Report on Colour filling competition (for children up to 7 years) and Painting competition (for children 7-10 years) on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima. May 04, 2015

On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima on May 04, 2015, a colour filling competition (for children up to 7 years) and painting competition (for children 7-10 years) were arranged to motivate children to learn and know about Lord Buddha. The inauguration function was held at Buddhist Studies Center under the chair of Dr. Mohan Khedkar, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati and in the presence of Dr. S. D. Katore (Professor, Department of Mathematics and Member, Management Council, SGB Amravati University, Amravati) and Dr. J. D. Wadate (Controller of Examination, SGB Amravati University, Amravati). Around 70 children and people were present. The function was started with Buddha Vandana and introductory remarks by Dr. Gajanan Muley (Coordinator, BSC) followed by speech by Chairperson Dr. Mohan Khedkar, (Honorable Vice-Chancellor). Prof. Yuoraj Tamgadge concluded the function with vote of thanks. Mr. Sunil Botewad has anchored the program. The competitions were arranged in Vidhyarthi Bhavan. Dr. S. R. Manik (Professor and Head, Department of Botany, SGB Amravati University, Amravati) and Dr. D. Y. Chacharkar (Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, SGB Amravati University, Amravati) have worked as judges. The prizes were distributed at the hands of Prof. J. S. Tidke, Hon’ble Pro-Vice-Chancellor, SGB Amravati University, Amravati and Dr. A. D. Chavan, Finance and Account Officer, SGB Amravati University, Amravati in the kind presence of Dr. S. R. Manik and Dr. D. Y. Chacharkar.

D. Katore (Professor, Department of Mathematics and Member, Management Council, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati), Dr. Pravin Raghuvanshi, Dr. Ajay Deshmukh (Director, BCUD) and Prof. Dineshkumar Joshi (Registrar, SGB Amravati University, Amravati).
