I have proven excellence in delivering growth and creative solutions in fast-paced environments. Q3: What changes/direction do you envisage? There has been no better time for cities around the world to provide the necessary regulatory changes needed to unlock micro mobility. Not only are e-bikes and e-scooters fun and cost effective, they are also better for the environment. A key component of our ANZ strategy is to bring our service to more cities, so we will continue to work with regulators and governments to show how we can support their transport and environmental strategies. Our top priority is always safety and we have developed the safest, most durable and sustainable products in the shared micro mobility market. We continue to push the boundaries on hardware and software innovation to enhance micro mobility for our riders and the cities we serve. Our scale and deep experience in markets around the world means that we are well-placed to provide solutions to suit every city’s unique needs. Q4: Where is Lime established (which cities), what trials are continuing involving Lime? We were the first micro mobility operator in New Zealand, and remain the market leader with operations in Christchurch, Hamilton, Dunedin and Selwyn District. We launched in Wellington on August 8 and we have ongoing discussions with other cities around the country. We are privileged to return to Auckland with our latest scooters and bikes [under Jump’s ownership] to connect more people across the city with our safe, affordable and convenient transport options. Across the Tasman, we currently operate in Brisbane, and we continue to work closely with cities interested in providing more sustainable and cost-efficient transportation solutions.

28 EVS AND BEYOND OCTOBER 2020 | WWW.EVSANDBEYOND.CO.NZ EV GLOBAL ADVANCES We check out what’s happening around the world in the EV-related space.

CALIFORNIA EV GOLD RUSH STARTS California will ban fossil fuel new car sales from 2035. The “EV sales only” message has come from governor Gavin Newsom, who signed an order on an electric Ford Mustang Mach-E bonnet requiring regulators to phase out internal combustion engine (ICE) cars and stop the sale of all new petrol and diesel cars in 15 years. That’s expected to drive up EV demand and force some auto manufacturers to make the switch early. eACTROS E-TRUCK ROLLS OUT NEXT YEAR Mercedes-Benz eActros battery electric truck production is set to begin at the Wörth plant in Germany in 2021 with the eEconic to follow in 2022. The trucks will be built alongside existing combustion engine models and integrated into the production process “as far as possible” with basic vehicle structures built on one line, the electric drive components and powertrains installed in a separate process, the company says.

VW ID.4 REVEALED Volkswagen has globally launched its all-electric SUV, the ID.4. It will be produced at five factories on three continents, targeting mainstream buyers, starting at US$39,995 when it arrives there early next year and probably Australia and New Zealand soon after.

FIRST ELECTRIC MACK BEGINS SERVICE Volvo Group subsidiary Mack Trucks has delivered its LR Electric waste truck demonstration model to the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY). The department will base the demonstration model at its Brooklyn North 1 garage and hold an in-service trial on local collection routes, evaluating operating range, payload capacity, regenerative braking and overall functionality, with New York City aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% before 2035.

NIKOLA FOUNDER EXITS AMID FRAUD ALLEGATIONS Nikola Corporation founder and executive chairman Trevor Milton has stepped down from the electric truck startup following fraud allegations. It comes after analyst firm and short seller Hindenburg Research released a damning report on the company saying it was built “on dozens of lies”.

LOTUS EVIJA IN ACTION Lotus has revealed further details about its Evija all-electric hypercar in a stunning new YouTube film showing an engineering development vehicle testing on the 3.54km Lotus track at Hethel in the United Kingdom. At the wheel is Lotus vehicle attributes director Gavan Kershaw, who provides extensive new commentary on key elements of the Evija project.

EVS ATTRACT AT AUTO CHINA EVs of all types – including a “Kiwigogo” flying machine – drew thousands of people to the opening days of the 2020 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China). It’s billed as the only major international car show held this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with attendees wearing masks and encouraged to practice social distancing while visiting some 90 exhibits. ZERO-EMISSION COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT CONCEPTS Airbus has revealed three concepts for the world’s first zero-emission commercial aircraft which could enter service by 2035. All of these concepts rely on hydrogen as a primary power source – an option which Airbus believes holds exceptional promise as a clean aviation fuel.
