What happened in the 2016-17 academic year, by Luisa Alemany and Lisa Hehenberger seeded a much bigger project: “The Rambla of Innovation”, already up and running in 2017/18. On the Rambla, EWorks (how to create your startup), together with Fusion Point (our design lab) and its neighbor the FabLab (the place to create the actual prototypes) complement the original EGarage on the path from conception to implementation of a new venture. The physical and intellectual infrastructure that we have built up over the years will inspire future generations to set up new companies that will have an impact on society. The 2016/17 academic year has also been a year of recognition, in which the EEI as a whole, some of our programmes, members of our team, our research and our initiatives have received prestigious awards. You will find detailed information about the awards in this activity report. Thank you to all the people and organisations that have believed in us, and Luisa Alemany special thanks to our main sponsor Santander Universidades. Wish me luck! during the last decade and all the things that are to come. Many projects have been launched in the past decade; some of these have been very Luisa Alemany successful, while others haven’t worked out – as to be expected with any entrepreneurial ESADE Entrepreneurship Institute Director 2008/09 endeavor. We have learnt from both types to 2016/17 of experience. We are evolving, and what made sense at the beginning might not be so relevant at a later stage, as more initiatives come into place. For example, the EGarage, the focal point of many of our events, has ESADE Activity Report 2016-2017 5 5 It is a great honour for me to take over the leadership of ESADE’s Entrepreneurship Institute (EEI). I am truly impressed by EEI’s achievements under the leadership of Luisa Alemany and the management of Mercè Saura. Through the various activities, including research, teaching, support in business ideation and creation, as well as participation in social debate, EEI has managed to put ESADE firmly on the map in terms of entrepreneurship. These achievements would not have been possible without the hard work of the faculty, researchers and staff who have contributed to the various activities of the EEI, or without the financial support of our main sponsor Santander Universidades. I bring to the EEI an international expertise in social entrepreneurship and impact investing, a solid academic background, and my experience of setting up and running a research centre. Before joining ESADE in 2016, I was the Research and Policy Director at the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA), a pan-European network of investors in social enterprise. At EVPA, I set up its Knowledge Centre, an entrepreneurial project in Lisa Hehenberger itself, as we needed to define the scope and academic reference for entrepreneurship in boundaries of the nascent venture philanthropy Europe. More specifically, this means that we and impact investing sector.
