Soon Dad parked the car in the church parking lot. When they went inside, Gracelynn saw church members standing around a couple of tables. They were filling baskets with many items that had been placed in the middle of the tables. “Come help us, Gracelynn,” Claire called as she waved at her friend. “Help us fill the baskets with these gifts.” Gracelynn looked at her mom who gave her a nod. “Go and help Claire,” Mom said. “I will take these stuffed animals to the tables.” Gracelynn’s church had decided to put together Christmas baskets for the elderly in their community. I finally have enough to buy the bike. I’m so happy, Mom.” “You have done well. After dinner, Dad can run you down to the store and help you bring it home.” All afternoon Trevor couldn’t keep his thoughts off the new bike. He knew it would be months before he could ride it, but that was OK. Just knowing it was safely stored in his garage was enough to make him excited. He watched as his mother and sister put up some of the Christmas decorations from last year. They hung the stockings on hooks over the fireplace. Trevor remembered Christmases past when the stockings would be full of wonderful things his parents had gathered over the year. They would probably be empty this year with money being so short. Sarah had asked for only one thing this year: a doll she had seen in a catalog. Trevor knew it wouldn’t be under the tree. That made him sad for her. But Trevor would buy his own present this year—his new bike. “I’m home,” Dad called from the door. The waiting had ended. It was time to go bring the midnight-blue bike home.

night. The sheep lay sleeping safely. The shepherds

were getting sleepy too. Suddenly, the darkness vanished. A shining angel

stood by the shepherds, and the bright light of God’s glory filled the

field! The shepherds were very afraid! “ Do not be

afraid!” the angel said happily. “I bring you good news of great joy!

The Savior has been born this night in the city of Bethlehem. This

is how you will know Him. You will find a baby lying in a manger.”

Then the whole sky was filled with thousands and thousands of angels, who

sang and praised God. “Glory to God in heaven!” they sang.

“And peace on Earth!”

This story can teach me that we worship God when we sing joyful songs of praise.

And all the world would remember it for years to come. Jesus, the Son of God, had come to this sin-filled planet to be born as a baby. They would tell the world. Angels had been watching people on Earth. They saw the priests in the temple. Those men were supposed to know about the Savior’s birth. Prophets had told about it for years.
