Mr. Kaustuv is very right in assessing the requirements of the school and we are glad that at present you have decided for 2 items viz. furniture for the class rooms and provision of drinking water facilities. These are extremely necessary for the students as well as for the teachers of the school. Accordingly, we have estimated the expenditure on the items which have been incorporated in the revised proposal. Total budget comes to Rs. 198000.00 which, we hope, shall be affordable for the year. Name of the group/organization requesting funds. Deulpur Sishu Kalyan Samiti 2. When was the group established? January 8 th , 1976 3. Briefly describe the motivation for starting this group. English version of Deulpur Sishu Kalyan samity is Deulpur Child Welfare Organization which implies that main motivation behind establishment is to facilitate the children to grow and flourish in such a manner that they become the true and responsible citizen in future. It is said that the children are the future of any country and therefore it is the duty and responsibility of each and everyone to nourish them properly. 4. Briefly describe the aims of your group. a. Caring education for all the children emphasizing the girl children b. Mitigating the sufferings of the people and to facilitat e them for earning at least two times square meal so that their children do not have to starve c. Facilitating sustainable food security in terms of socio- economical, cultural and environmental aspects d. Facilitating the people to live with dignity, love, affection, brother & sisterhood and equal justice e. Empowering the women for equal participation in family as well as in community affairs f. Does your group have any religious or political affiliation? If yes, please describe the type of affiliation and the reason for it. Deulpur Sishu Kalyan Samity (DSKS) is a non political,non religious, secular and democratic organization 6. What non education-related community development activities is your group involved in? a. Facilitating development of agriculture and agro- allied activities b. Women empowerment-formation and strengthening of women orgn.and Self Helf Groups (SHGs), thrift and credit activities c. Vocational training for the youths(both female and male) for employment/ self employment d. Infrastructure dev. program like Low cost housing and latrines, Drinking water facilites etc. e. Preventive and curative health care including eye operation camps. f. Awareness generation program on socio-economic, cultural and environmental context including HIV/AIDS , Part II: Details about your educational project/s 7. List the school/s run by your group, and their locations. If you are requesting funds for only a few of several schools, please specify which one/s . DSKS directly runs a KG Model school namely Sishu Siksha Kendra located at its own prtemises. The classes are Nursery, KG 1 And and upto class ib . Besides, under its initiatives quite a few schools have been established which are now upgraded upto High School standard and have been taken over by the Govt. of West Bengal 8. Providing vocational training on various contents is also a regular program of DSKS 10. Please tell us about your teaching techniques (conventional vs. alternative). Sishu Siksha Kendra of DSKS is basically a pre-primary schhool but function in a different way. In fact, under the program named ICDS sponsored by the Govt. of India, almost all the villages are covered. Under the above scheme,in addition to various women empowerment program, one child education center is established in each village. Main motto behind establishment is to prepare the children for admission to the primary schools the result of which is not upto the mark. At DSKS the children are prepared in a different way. The education is based on games & sports, physical devt. drawings, intrduction to the nature and the teachers engaged are well trained to impart basic literacy 11. Describe the socio-economic background of the children and their parents (e.g. education, occupational). If any of your students are employed, please tell us about that as well. Most of the parents are dependent on agriculture directly or indirectly. Around 37% are wage earners. Although they are very much interested for education of their children but could not afford to do it always.Social bindings, distance of the school, economic condition come in the way.Awareness level on the present day societal context is too low.Early marriage of the girl child,Dowery system during marriage, rearing of the younger brother & sister are the common phenomenon for the girl child. The people have become completely dependent on establishment and have forgotten their inharent skill, knowledge and experiences. Vote oriented politics and crimilization of politics have made them dependent The proposed school has produced talented students who are now successful in their life 13. In addition to education, does your group provide any other services to the children in your schools (e.g. food, health care, clothing, etc.)? Only health care facilities are provided 14. How many children have gone through your program in the past five years and what are they doing currently? Please tell us about their future education and employment possibilities . 379 girls have successfully passed high school standard of which 42% are admitted to Higher Secondary standard, 38%are dropped out and waiting for marriage and the rest 20% are married. Do you help your students with their future education efforts after they have passed out of your school? DSKS, due to its financial stringencies could not support them financially but always extends its moral support for their causes. It also takes the responsibility of liaossoning with other institution , keep their updated information and negotiate accordingly. 20. Are there any other schools (Kindergarten/Balwadi , Elementary school , High school ) in the area? If so, please list the schools and the range of classes each of them offers. Besides primary schools in almost all the sorroundig villages there are only one Higher Secondary School namely R.N.Basu High School is located within a radious of 4KM Which provides education upto 12 th standard. 21. Is your program different from that provided at these schools? Please explain. Besides the normal basic education emphasis is laid on physical and cultural development like songs & dances,competetion on various aspects, Yoga etc. 22. Why are the children in your school/s not attending government/other schools in the local area ? Because of tradional teaching technic, absence of other facilities and lack in understanding the student's psychology Asha for Education Project Proposal Submission Form 5 23. Do you try to involve the parents of the children in the running of the school (e.g. in setting the syllabus etc.)? Please specify. The parents are always involved in the running of the school. Guardian's committee is formed every year which meets in 3 months interval and take stock of the situation and suggest for betterment 24. What are your expansion plans for the future (e.g. adding more classes or schools)? a. Furnishing of the rooms & completion of 5 half constructed rooms to accommod the students,teachers, office room, library, computer room etc. b. Furniture for the students, teachers, Head Mistress c. Providing round the clock drinking water facilities to the students & Teachers P.S One time grant for the above purposes shall be required at the moment. But we may need similar amount of grant for the next 3-4 years since it is very likely that the rush of the girl student shall be increasing because of the upgraded educational facilities 25.
