World Record Holders and Olympic Medalists at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon PRESS RELEASE 1 March 2017 World Record Holders and Olympic Medalists at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon Today the RunCzech Organisation announced a World-Class field including two World Record Holders; Peres Jepchirchir and Leonard Patrick Komon, and two Rio Olympic Medalists; Galen Rupp and Tamirat Tola who will compete on April 1st in the 2017 edition of the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. The women’s list features the reigning World Champion, Peres Jepchirchir fresh from her Half marathon World Record performance (1:05:06 in RAK) in February. She will be challenged by the Prague event record holder Violah Jepchumba (1:05:51) who ran the fastest half marathon in the world in 2016, and RunCzech Racing’s young star, Joyciline Jepkosgei (1:06:08 in RAK this year). The race will include two other women with PRs under 1:07; Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia, the former event record holder and Kenyan Gladys Chesir. Of interest also are two American challengers Jordan Hasay who debuted in Houston this year with a 1:08:40 and Maegan Krifchin (1:09:51) along with the fastest Czech woman, Eva Vrabcova. The men’s field is also blessed with a World Record Holder in the person of Leonard Patrick Komon who claims road records at 10K and 15K which he set in 2010. Komon will be trying to improve on his third place finish in Prague from 2015. The biggest threat may come from another Kenyan, Barselius Kipyego who ran 59:15 in Usti nad Labem last September setting a course record on what had not previously been considered a fast course. But they both will face strong contenders in the Rio and London OG medalists, Galen Rupp of the U.S. and Tamirat Tola from Ethiopia. Tola took a Bronze medal in the 10,000 metres in Rio and he looks to be in top condition this year after his win in the Dubai Marathon in January. His winning time of 2:04:11 made him the ninth fastest performer of all-time. The Rio Olympic Marathon Bronze and 10.000 OG London Silver medalist Rupp who is pointing for a fast performance at the Boston Marathon this year is always competitive and could challenge the American record. The Czech men will feature Jiri Homolac who is currently training in Iten, Kenya in the hope of breaking 1:03 for the first time. April 15, 2019 Dear Members of the Media, On behalf of the Boston Athletic Association, principal sponsor John Hancock, and all of our sponsors and supporters, we welcome you to the City of Boston and the 123rd running of the Boston Marathon. As the oldest annually contested marathon in the world, the Boston Marathon represents more than a 26.2-mile footrace. The roads from Hopkinton to Boston have served as a beacon for well over a century, bringing those from all backgrounds together to celebrate the pursuit of athletic excellence. From our early beginnings in 1897 through this year’s 123rd running, the Boston Marathon has been an annual tradition that is on full display every April near and far. We hope that all will be able to savor the spirit of the Boston Marathon, regardless whether you are an athlete or volunteer, spectator or member of the media. Race week will surely not disappoint. The race towards Boylston Street will continue to showcase some of the world’s best athletes. Fronting the charge on Marathon Monday will be a quartet of defending champions who persevered through some of the harshest weather conditions in race history twelve months ago. Desiree Linden, the determined and resilient American who snapped a 33-year USA winless streak in the women’s open division, returns with hopes of keeping her crown. Linden has said that last year’s race was the culmination of more than a decade of trying to tame the beast of Boston – a race course that rewards those who are both patient and daring.

  • High Quality Dozen Challenge Honours in Prague
PRESS RELEASE 19 March 2015 High Quality Dozen challenge Honours in Prague The Czech capital will stage one of the highest calibre half marathon races anywhere in the world on March 28: a dozen runners with personal bests under 61 minutes will be on the start list for the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. The women’s race is just as strong in prospect with nine athletes showing fastest performances of under 70 minutes. Leading the charts for fastest career times are Leonard Komon and Lucy Kabuu. The Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon is an IAAF Gold Label race. “This is, of course, one of the strongest fields we’ve ever had in Prague. We’ve never had 12 runners with personal bests of under 61 minutes in the race. I think we can look forward to some great competition,” says Carlo Capalbo, the President of the Organising Committee. Three Kenyans take their full share of the spotlight: Leonard Komon, Peter Kirui and Geoffrey Ronoh. Komon is the fastest man entered with a personal best and world-class time of 59:14, achieved on the 27-year-old’s victorious half marathon debut in Berlin last year. The current world record holder for 10km (26:44) and 15km (41:13) will be running his second race at the half marathon. “Leonard is supposed to be in very good form and wants to run faster than his debut in Berlin,” says Jana Moberly, the co-ordinator for the international elite field. It’s hard to imagine the race turning out to be slow with Leonard Komon on the start line.
