LOLA MONTEZ THE story of this musical is based on historical fact . In 18 5 5-6, the "Spanish" dancer, Lola Montez, was attra cted to A11s­ tralia, like other theatric al personalities of her time, in the hope of cashing in on the new fo1ind wealth of the gold miners.
