The U. S. Supreme Court upheld most of President Obama’s historic health care overhaul. This action will increase health care coverage and reduce health disparities in the minority communities. The way the Affordable Care Act works, will be an advantage for all, even though such has not been publicized. It is felt that because of this, and because it is not a violation of the U. S. Constitution, Chief Justice John Roberts voted to uphold it. More than 30 million uninsured Americans can now have better health. Read more on this in next week’s Star Newspapers. Don Thompson takes over this weekend as the first African-American CEO of the McDonald's Corp., the world's largest restaurant chain, the same week the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company showed off the world's largest eating establishment. On Monday, McDonald's previewed its flagship Olympic Park restaurant in London for the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. It’s one of the four McDonald's the company has built on Olympic Park. Certainly, it is necessary to honor all of America’s war heroes’ selfless service and sacrifice, and in particular, those who served at Montford Point. They answered our nation's call at a time when our society was deeply divided along racial lines. As such, many of their contributions went unrecognized and many times they were not given the respect and recognition they deserved as Marines, as Americans, and as patriots. So in order to correct this past injustice, the Resolution, which is now law, was introduced on their behalf. This is a proud victory for the Montford Point Marines, as this Gold Medal will forever anchor their role in the history of our nation’s great military.” Dqdd{"Dtqyp"Igvu"Octtkgf"kp"Jcyckk"

E kaabo (eh-kah-bow). Welcome.

Frances Bradley, Columnist [email protected] Volume Burks, Photographer Anjeon Yeohaeng (Safe Journey) to Toure, Tonya, and Sydnee Breaker. Anyone who knows my cousin, Barbara Breaker, knows that she does not need a reason to have a crab party. As a matter of fact, any day of the week, any occasion is grounds for her to head to Trout River Seafood for a “mess” of blue crabs. On June 9, Barbara and Ron Breaker invited family and friends to a crab boil for son, Army Sgt. First Class Brian Toure Breaker, daughter-in-law Tonya, and granddaughter, Sydnee, to bid them safe travel before their departure on a two year Army assignment in Korea. For months, the family has been packing, and studying Korean language and customs, as they prepared for this exciting life’s journey. Neither Toure nor Tonya is a stranger to living abroad. As a child, Toure and his siblings attended school in Germany while father Ron was stationed there in the Army. Tonya spent her junior year of high school in Brazil, where she lived with a family and learned to speak Portuguese fluently. The well-traveled Tonya is really excited about the prospect of exploring new destinations from Seoul’s ground zero. She also finds a certain comfort in knowing that sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (as a student, she was a founding member of the AKA Chapter on the campus of DePauw University), who live in Seoul, will wel- come her with open arms. Young Sydnee looks forward to making new friends at the Seoul American High School. She also has plans to continue Tae Kwon Do, the Korean martial art and sport. Sydnee advanced to a purple belt in a Toure, Sydnee, and Tonya Breaker are off to Seoul, Korea recent tournament! The yard of Breaker Manor in Springfield was arrayed with a tent that accommodated 4 long tables, so there was plenty of elbow room for blue crab lovers. No Breaker crab boil would be complete without shrimp, potatoes, corn, and Barbara’s secret seafood dip with a nice compliment of wine and beer. Then there were the cakes. I stopped counting at five! Also on hand was face and body painting by Tiffany Rodriguez and Associates – compliments of Marilyn Williams. I wish Toure, Tonya, and Sydnee all the best. (Anjeonhan yeohaengul bonaesaeyo!)

Speaking of Toure Breaker…when daughter Sydnee was six years old, he became a single father. Since that time, he has been father and mother to his daughter. He has always provided a stable and loving home for himself and Sydnee. Of course, grandparents, aunts, and other relatives were ready to step in when needed or just because. I’ve watched Sydnee grow into a poised and beautiful teenager. All that she is and will be is credited to her father, Toure. And, Toure can thank his father, Ron, for being his role model. As my last tribute to fathers, in this month of June, 2012, I salute you, Toure Breaker, for being the best dad to Sydnee. Happy Father’s Day to you.

It was a total shock when it was reported that there was not a mixture of drugs in Eugene’s body, but marijuana only. His girl friend said that he was in the middle of breaking his marijuana dependency and was very religious. His family and others felt that he was under the influence of voodoo pharmacology literalized, the drug that turns people into flesh-eating zombies. Eugene was naked when he chewed 75% of the homeless man’s face. He was killed by Miami police when they could not get him to stop eating the man’s face. Alex Kinyua admitted to killing his college roommate and eating his heart and parts of his brain. Kinyua, who was once an ROTC member, was a “Virginia Tech wait- ing to happen,” said authorities at the college he attended. Michael Terron Daniel, 22, was arrested on June 14 when a report was received that he had gone crazy. When the Waco, Texas police arrived, they were told that he had droopped to all four, chased a neighbor “while barking and growling like a dog. He then grabbed a dog, beat and fatally strangled it and “began to bite into the dog, rip- ping pieces of flesh away.” Charles Baker of Palmetto, Florida, on drugs, got naked, barged into his girlfriend’s house, bit a chunk out of a man’s arm and ate it. He then powered through several cop-deployed Taser probes before getting tackled and arrested. Baker, who is 26, was visiting his children. Don’t think that this recent indulgence in flesh is just with men of color. This week, police in Germany apprehended Luka Magnotta, a gay porn star from Canada accused of killing his lover and eating him. Afterward, Magnotta allegedly mailed his lover's dismembered feet and hands to the headquarters of Canada's main political parties. Magnotta was captured at an internet cafe in Berlin — where he had reportedly been looking up stories about himself — ending an international manhunt that had lasted two weeks. In a possible nod to Hannibal Lecter, Mao Sugiyama, a self-described asexual, served his recently severed genitals to a group of five diners at a fancy banquet in Japan last month. Sugiyama underwent genital-removal surgery because he doesn't identify with either gender, and went on to advertise that the remains were for sale. He served his genitals, topped with button mushrooms and parsley, for $250 a plate. Last month, a professor in Sweden, unnamed by local press, was reported to have cut off his wife's lips and eaten them, in a jealous rage prompted by suspicions that she was having an affair. He is being charged with attempted murder, and authorities say he will undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Then, there was the chef who allegedly turned his victims into meatballs In August 2011, Russian police said a murderous chef, identified only as Ivan L., had admitted to making meatballs and sausages from his victims' corpses. The chef was accused of luring victims to his apartment through a gay-dating website, then killing them with a butcher's knife. He also reportedly filmed his culinary adventures and posted them on the internet. Stephen Griffiths, a PhD student from England, pled guilty in December 2010 to murdering three female victims, one of whom was killed with a crossbow. Griffiths said he had eaten parts of two of his victims, boiling one in a pot and consuming the other raw. These incidents have caused much concern. It is thought that economic anxiety may have something to do with it and the new or mixed drugs. The CDC say they are not aware of a virus or condition that would make these things happen. Others are concerned about the undead walking - zombies. PAGE A-6 THE STAR JUNE 30, 2012 AroundAround TheThe AreaArea

Sean Paul Releases 2012 Olympic Anthem

By Carlette DeLeon

International superstar Sean Paul is doing his part to keep the Jamaican spirit high as the London 2012 Olympic Games draw near. The artist’s recently released single Hold On is an anthem for local and overseas athletes who will be heading to London with dreams of achieving gold. The third single released from Sean Paul’s Tomahawk Technique, Hold On is an upbeat and uplifting song that speaks to striving and achieving your dreams no matter what obstacles may stand in the way. The song’s powerful message can be applied in all areas and levels of life, and for a big stage like the Olympics rings true to the theme of accomplishing only the best. “I felt compelled to do Hold On this year especially because of the upcoming Olympics and wanting to encourage our ambassa- dors to excel despite the challenges.” Sean explained. Hold On, is easily becoming a local anthem for all Jamaican athletes ready to bring more accolades home to Jamaica. The song starts off on an uplifting note as Sean Paul sing- jays, “Hold on to the dream, hold on, Hold on now, now, Hold on and believe, Oh we already won, we still hold on.” Sean Paul seems to be talking directly to his fellow Jamaican athletes. After Jamaica’s athletes record breaking achievements in the Beijing 2008 Olympics, all eyes will be on the Jamaican athletes in London this August. The song inspires hope and eases sporting anxiety in the message sent. In an interview with Sean he states, “I certainly hope the song will give encouragement to Jamaican athletes, I know how hard they work and how much what they do means to Jamaica.” “Everytime I watch them compete I feel such a proud feeling. I know they will continue to rise higher and bring us some more gold.” A former athlete himself, having competed in Water Polo throughout his youth and well acquainted with the struggles of following his dreams in music to accom- plish worldwide success, Sean Paul truly speaks from his heart, which is felt in the song. “Being a swimmer and a water polo player I had to train for hours and hours. The commitment, preparation and sweat that goes into being a half second faster is unbelievable that's the spirit that fueled Hold On" the artiste said. Since released, Hold On has been steadily gaining airplay locally and internationally. The deejay hopes that the song will continue to inspire not only local athletes heading out for Olympic gold, but for all persons who are thriving to accomplish their dreams and goals. The Grammy winning artiste continues to reap success with his fifth studio album, Tomahawk Technique which was released in France in January. The pop album debuted at the #1 spot on the Japan I-Tunes chart and has seen remarkable growth in Europe and the rest of the world. Other popular hits from the album include: Got 2 Luv U with American songstress Alexis Jordan, She Doesn’t Mind and How Deep Is Your Love featuring superstar Kelly Rowland. Got 2 Luv U has sold over 2 million copies digitally and its strong performance in Europe has set the pace for the song making the top 10 in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania and Spain. Roll Wid Di Don also featured on the album was produced by the artiste on his Material artiste and has held the #1 spot on the Hype TV charts in Jamaica for six weeks. Sean Paul is currently touring and constantly working on new material. Who Let The Dogs Out’s Baha Men Get Congrats From PM On Signing With Sony Entertainment Group By Llonella Gilbert, BIS

BAHAMAS: Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Perry Gladstone Christie (bottom center with mic) during a press conference on Thursday, congratulated the music group Baha Men who will soon sign a formal recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment. “They are each in their own right, experienced musi- cians and artists, and connectively they are a very strong and potent force,” the Prime Minister said. “They have the capacity to again impact the world.” He told the group members’ that they are a wonder- ful example for other aspiring Bahamian musicians, and they will be able to promote the country with the back- ing of a company with influence all over the world. Besides members of Baha Men, also present were Minister of Tourism the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe; Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr. the Hon. Daniel Johnson; Afo Verde, President, Sony Music Entertainment, Latin American Division and Fernando Cabral, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sony Music Entertainment, Latin American Division. The Prime Minister noted that this is the perfect time for such an announcement to be made, as the government made its commitment to developing the arts known in the Speech From the Throne read during the Opening of Parliament the day before. Prime Minister Christie met with Sony executives prior to winning the general elections, with the intention that if he won, a strategy would already be in the works to enable the company to promote The Bahamas in various facets around the world. He also wanted to establish a relationship with Sony, so that Bahamian recording artists could be signed to contracts on an annual basis. “The same way we have won gold medals in the Olympics, or produced top heart and neurosurgeons in our country, the talent is there in music and the performing arts,” the Prime Minister said. Fernando Cabral said Sony executives “were blown away by the performance of Baha Men” during the musical showcase at the company’s annual convention held this year at Atlantis instead of its normal venue, New York City. “Our President of A&R (who signs talent to the company) said very accurately, that we have all seen hundreds of showcases before and without a doubt, the one this past Tuesday evening was the best that we have ever witnessed. “During showcases, the Executives just sit very politely and listen very critically, but not this time… by the second song, everyone was out of their seats and danc- ing uncontrollably in front of the stage.” Mr. Cabral explained that the Junkanoo sound was something they had never heard before and the band’s performance was simply “awesome”. “We want that Bahamian sound in our catalogue. There will be no watering down.” The Executive said midway through the group’s performance, Obi Pindling, the company’s attorney in The Bahamas was asked if the group was presently signed to anyone. “We decided on the spot, to extend an invitation for Baha Men to become part of the Sony family.” Mr. Cabral said, “It is our intention, as soon as we return to our respective offices, to have our attorneys prepare a formal recording contract to offer to the Baha Men. “We have no doubt whatsoever that this is only the start of a wonderful relationship between Sony Music Entertainment and the musical talent of your wonderful country, and hopefully even more,” he said. Marcus Stroud Returns To Jaguars For One Day To Retire With Team He Began NFL Career With

The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed veteran defensive tackle Marcus Stroud to a one-day contract so that he could retire as a Jaguar. Stroud will be placed on the reserve/retired list. Stroud, the club’s first-round draft pick and the 13th over- all selection in 2001, played in 100 games with 84 starts in seven seasons with the Jaguars. A native of Thomasville, Georgia, Stroud totaled 457 tackles, 22 sacks, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries during his tenure in Jacksonville. “This is where I started my career and where I was able to have my most productive years,” Stroud said. “The Jaguars are like family and I know this is where I belong.” Stroud was traded to Buffalo in 2008 and played three sea- sons with the Bills, starting 45 of 46 games. He signed with New England on March 4, 2011 and was released on July 29, 2011. Stroud finished his 10-year career with 647 tackles (414 solo), 29.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, 170 quar- terback hits and 43 tackles for loss. He played in 146 games with 129 starts. Stroud was voted a starter in the Pro Bowl for three con- secutive seasons from 2003-05, joining Tony Boselli as the only Jaguars voted to start in three straight Pro Bowls. He teamed with John Henderson for six seasons (2002-07) to give the Jaguars one of the NFL’s biggest and best defensive tackle tandems. The duo remains the only Jaguars defensive players to be selected to multiple Pro Bowls. Stroud’s 22 sacks with the Jaguars are tied for the sixth in team history. He is one of 19 players to play in at least 100 games for the Jaguars and one of only eight defensive players to accomplish the feat. His 68 consecutive starts from September 8, 2002 to October 1, 2006 mark the third-longest starting streak in team history. Stroud anchored a Jaguars defense in 2006 that ranked second in the NFL, the highest ranking in team history. From 2003-06, the Jaguars ranked third with only 37 rushing touchdowns allowed and second with only 11 100-yard rushers allowed during that span. A former University of Georgia standout, Stroud is now the fifth veteran to retire as a Jaguar after finishing his career with another team. Tony Boselli, Donovin Darius, Paul Spicer and Fred Taylor all previously returned to retire as Jaguars. ALL HAIL KING JAMES: LeBron Delivers The Championship To Miami

By ARTHIA NIXON Florida/Georgia Star

LeBron James has made good on his promise of delivering the NBA trophy to Miami. With the stellar support of Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, James and the Miami Heat stole the thunder from the Oklahoma City Thunder and brought down the house to win a championship they were thirsty for. "Everything that went along with being a high school prodigy, to being drafted and having to be the face of a franchise, everything that came with it, I had to learn through it,” said the exhausted but elated MVP. “No one had gone through that journey, so I had to do it on my own. I had to figure it out on my own.” "The best thing that happened to me was losing the Finals, and me playing the way I played," he added, Above: LeBron James celebrates after his big win. It just happened one year later." On his website, James thanked his fans for their support saying that he could not have done it without them. He also displayed a photo of himself with those highly sought after trophies, including the 2012 Bill Russell MVP Award. Despite his youth, King James is rightly so placed as one of the top ballers of his generation with this season’s average of 28.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 7.4 assists. "It took me to go all the way to the top and then hit rock bottom to realize what I needed to do as a pro- fessional athlete and as a person," he said humbly after winning. "I was just happy I was able to get back to this position. I was happy I was able to do it the right way, and do it for myself and not for anyone else." The city went into full party mode to welcome their champions with a parade that stretched the American Airlines Arena. Lining Biscayne Boulevard, they cheered on their top players and went into over- drive at the glimpse of James who kept true to his word that he would deliver. JUNE 30, 2012 THE STAR PAGE B-5 ENTERTAINMENT Vanessa Morgan The Sexiest Vamp Babysitter On TV!

The has produced a slew of cutie-pie looking youngsters who went on to become young adult stunners such as Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Vanessa Hudgens, Brenda song, Raven Symone and the list goes on. Soon to be added to that tradition is actress/singer Vanessa Morgan. This young lady is fully equipped with the sexy, sultry looks, talent and persona that not only turn heads and catches attention but will have many suitors (both script wise profession- ally and relationship wise personally) hustling to get in line. Even though she is cur- rently almost fully legal at age twenty, Morgan came up through the ranks at Disney and other outlets as a child actor breaking in the biz as an eight year-old with her film debut as the young Vanessa Williams in VH1’s TV movie “A Diva’s Christmas.” The Ottawa, Ontario, Canada native won the beauty title of Junior Miss America in 1999 and has starred on the international Family Channel TV series “The Latest Buzz.” Morgan has other credits including the Disney Channel TV movies “Harriet The Spy: Blog Wars” and “Geek Charming.” She currently has a recurring role Jenne, Cameron’s girlfriend on Disney’s “A.N.T. Farm” TV series and stars as Sarah the half human vampire also on Disney’s “My Baby Sitter’s A Vampire” TV series. Disney doing a vampire TV show? Was it shocking or surprising to Morgan to get such a role on The Disney Channel of all places? She chuckles, “It was a com- plete shock because Disney definitely doesn’t do anything like that. We never thought it was going to get picked up by Disney at all when we made it because that is really out of their comfort zone but I was auditioning for another Disney show and the head of Disney said ‘Oh, we just bought your show.’ So I was the first one to find out even before anyone else. I guess they liked how it was a bit riskier than how they usually go so they wanted to try it out. And kids love it because its not so protected and squeaky clean. It’s actually the humor that they really like.” When asked about her character, Morgan says, “My character’s name is Sarah and she’s the vampire baby sitter. She’s very strong. She’s dealing with the fact that her ex-boyfriend was a vampire and turned her into one against her will. But she’s dealing with that because she wanted to have kids one day, be a normal high sing.
