Various claims have been made about Babylonian innovations and the similarity between the Greek zodiac and the stories, dating from the third millennium BCE, of Gilgamesh, a legendary Sumerian hero who encountered animals and characters similar to those of the zodiac. Some of the Babylonian constellations may have been popularized in the Greek world through the conquest of The Lore of the Stars, Alexander in the fourth century BCE. Corona-Australis is one of the nearest regions to the Sun with recent and ongoing star formation, but the current picture of its stellar (and substellar) content is not complete yet. Aims. We take advantage of the second data release of the Gaia space mission to revisit the stellar census and search for additional members of the young stellar association in Corona-Australis. Methods. We applied a probabilistic method to infer membership probabilities based on a multidimensional astrometric and photo- metric data set over a field of 128 deg2 around the dark clouds of the region. Results. We identify 313 high-probability candidate members to the Corona-Australis association, 262 of which had never been reported as members before. -

Give each YW a chance to identify the constellation on a piece of paper. 2. Introduction : Before cell phones, GPS, satellites, or even maps, people navigated the globe by looking up to the heavens. Star constellations that we can see tonight have been around since before Christ’s birth. They have been a light and a standard to help people find their way home. This year the Mutual theme comes from Doctrine and Covenants 115:5 “Arise and shine forth that thy light may be a standard for the nations.” As children of God, we are being asked to be a standard, a light for people to find their way back to their Heavenly Father. Tonight as we introduce the YW program we are going to use stars and constellation to help teach and guide you about the Young Women’s program. 3. Young Women Motto and Logo: Just as stars shine brightly in the night time sky, the Young Women’s logo is a torch burning brightly. It is surrounded by the Young Woman Motto: “Stand for Truth and Righteousness”. The Moto invites all young women to make a commitment to hold up their light by being an example and remaining worthy to make and keep sacred covenants and receive the ordinances of the temple. When I think of the Young Woman’s motto, it makes me think of _____________________________________________________. 4. CONSTELLATION BOÖTES, THE HERDSMAN Boötes is the cultivator or Ploughman who drives the Bears, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor around the Pole Star Polaris. The bears, tied to the Polar Axis, are pulling a plough behind them, tilling the heavenly fields "in order that the rotations of the heavens should never cease". It is said that Boötes invented the plough to enable mankind to better till the ground and as such, perhaps, immortalizes the transition from a nomadic life to settled agriculture in the ancient world. This pleased Ceres, the Goddess of Agriculture, so much that she asked Jupiter to place Boötes amongst the stars as a token of gratitude. Boötes was first catalogued by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century and is home to Arcturus, the third individual brightest star in the night sky, after Sirius in Canis Major and Canopus in Carina constellation. It is a constellation of large extent, stretching from Draco to Virgo, nearly 50° in declination, and 30° in right ascension, and contains 85 naked-eye stars according to Argelander. The constellation exhibits better than most constellations the character assigned to it. One can readily picture to one's self the figure of a Herdsman with upraised arm driving the Greater Bear before him. FACTS, LOCATION & MAP • The neighbouring constellations are Canes Venatici, Coma Berenices, Corona Borealis, Draco, Hercules, Serpens Caput, Virgo, and Ursa Major. • Boötes has 10 stars with known planets and does not contain any Messier objects. • The brightest star in the constellation is Arcturus, Alpha Boötis, which is also the third brightest star in the night sky. -

It consists of a humorous 24-minute show and educator’s package. The Orion Educator’s Guide is designed for Planetarians, Teachers, and parents. The information is researched, organized, and laid out so that the educator need not spend hours coming up with lesson plans or labs. This has already been accomplished by certified educators. The guide is written to alleviate the fear of space and the night sky (that many elementary and middle school teachers have) when it comes to that section of the science lesson plan. It is an excellent tool that allows the parents to be a part of the learning experience. The guide is devised in such a way that there are plenty of visuals to assist the educator and student in finding the Winter constellations. -

We have mapped the R Corona Australis molecular cloud at 1.2 mm with SIMBA on SEST and detected 25 distinct dust emission peaks. While 7 of them coincide with positions of previously known young stars, 18 are seemingly not associated with any known stellar object. We discuss the nature of individual sources and conclude that there are at least four small concentrations of young objects located along the filamentary shaped cloud. A comparison with C18O data hints at the depletion of molecules in some of the cores. Our new results yield some conflicting arguments about whether star formation proceeds from north-west to south-east in the R Cr A cloud. Key words. What constellation is near the northern horizon? (Ursa Major, Bootes) 2. What constellation is near the eastern horizon? (Orion, Eridanus) The center of the star wheel is the top of the sky, over your head. 3. Name two constellations that are near the top of the sky. (Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Andromeda) On the star wheel, bigger stars appear brighter in the sky. 4. Which constellation would be easier to see because it has more bright stars: Cassiopeia or Cepheus? (Cassiopeia) 5. Planets are not shown on the star wheel. Why not? (because they change positions over time) Now set the star wheel for midnight on March 15. 6. Where in the sky would you look to see Canis Major? (near the western horizon) 7. Look toward the east. What constellation is about halfway between the horizon and the top of the sky in the east? (Corona Borealis (best answer) also Hercules, Bootes) The lines connecting the stars give us an idea about which stars belong to a constellation, and offer a pattern for us to look for in the sky. Each star pattern is supposed to represent a person, object or animal. For instance, Leo is supposed to be a lion. You also may have noticed that some constellations are bigger than others. 8. I grew up in Denmark in the 1950s, a time when Europe was healing the wounds after the ravages of the Second World War. Already at the age of 7 I had fallen in love with astronomy, but information was very hard to come by in those days, so I scraped together what I could, mainly relying on the local library. At some point I was introduced to the magazine Sky and Telescope, and soon invested my pocket money in a subscription. Every month I would sit at our dining room table with a dictionary and work my way through the latest issue. In one issue I read about Herbig-Haro objects, and I was completely mesmerized that these objects could be signposts of the formation of stars, and I dreamt about some day being able to contribute to this field of study. -

Offner1 1Department of Astronomy, University of Texas at Austin 2515 Speedway, Stop C1400 Austin, Texas, USA 78712-1205 (Accepted May 16, 2021) ABSTRACT Young stellar associations hold a star formation record that can persist for millions of years, revealing the progression of star formation long after the dispersal of the natal cloud. To identify nearby young stellar populations that trace this progression, we have designed a comprehensive framework for the identification of young stars, and use it to identify ∼3×104 candidate young stars within a distance of 333 pc using Gaia DR2. Applying the HDBSCAN clustering algorithm to this sample, we identify 27 top-level groups, nearly half of which have little to no presence in previous literature. Ten of these groups have visible substructure, including notable young associations such as Orion, Perseus, Taurus, and Sco-Cen. We provide a complete subclustering analysis on all groups with substructure, using age estimates to reveal each region's star formation history. The patterns we reveal include an apparent star formation origin for Sco-Cen along a semicircular arc, as well as clear evidence for sequential star formation moving away from that arc with a propagation speed of ∼4 km s−1 (∼4 pc Myr−1). We also identify earlier bursts of star formation in Perseus and Taurus that predate current, kinematically identical active star-forming events, suggesting that the mechanisms that collect gas can spark multiple generations of star formation, punctuated by gas dispersal and cloud regrowth.
