Local Vision Statement of Maribor
Prepared by: mag. Uroš Vidovič, EUROSAN 04/2018 CONTENT 1. INTRODUCTION ............................................................................................................. 2 2. LOCAL VISION STATEMENT FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS ........................................ 3 3. SUMMARY .................................................................................................................... 16 4. RESOURCES ................................................................................................................ 17 Page 1 1. INTRODUCTION SAINT MARTIN – A SYMBOL OF MUTUAL SHARING Saint Martin, the symbol of sharing, is one of the most popular saints in Central Europe (CE) with thousands of monuments dedicated to him, as well as a rich intangible heritage (folk traditions, legends) keeping his memory alive. In 2005, the Council of Europe named Saint Martin as a European personality and thus also confirmed his importance for the formation of a more solidary, human and reciprocal Europe. His philanthropic gesture of sharing his military coat with a beggar has become the basis on which European nations should build their common future. Saint Martin therefore essentially represents the ethical ideal of human solidarity, which has deeply impacted today’s cultural consciousness of the European nations since the beginning of his worship. This is proved by the folk stories about Saint Martin, which are so faithfully shown in all his portrayals: Saint Martin has not become the symbol of a Roman soldier or a Christian bishop, but a symbol of human compassion. The Saint Martin of Tours Route, which is based on his personality, aims to enable a diverse cultural exchange through the common European cultural heritage, which will enrich our mutual life and make a friendlier and more human Europe, but mostly deepen the awareness of our common values and foundations. This is by no means an inversion into the past, but on the contrary. -

Aarhus is located in Central Denmark on the eastern side of the Jutland peninsula. Jutland is the only part of Denmark that is connected to the mainland of Europe as 41% of the country consists of 443 named islands. The capital Copenhagen is on the island Zealand (Sjælland in Danish), which is 157 km south-east of Aarhus measured in a straight line and 303 km when driving across the island2 Funen (Fyn in Danish). Aarhus has 242,914 inhabitants2 in the urban area (of 91 km ) and 306,650 in the municipal area (of 467 km ). Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark not only measured in size, but also in the extent of trade, education, industry and cultural activities. The main employers of Aarhus are the Aarhus Municipality and the Aarhus University Hospital. th Aarhus originated in the 8 century from a Viking settlement, which was built around Aarhus River and still marks the centre of town and laid the foundation for the major industrial port that Aarhus has today. Many old buildings in the city have been preserved, for example, the Aarhus Custom House (Toldkammeret), the Aarhus Theatre (Aarhus Teater), Marselisborg Palace (Marselisborg Slot) and the Aarhus Cathedral, which represent historic landmarks across the city. Aarhus is a pulsating city offering a broad range of educational institutions and a vibrant and active student life. -

We overview the methodology, technology, and digital content including digital storytelling. The results contribute to semantic web and digital libraries European Research Area priorities, as well. We discuss current state and prospective future work. Our EC Culture 2000 project starts with the 3D reconstruction of top European added value places in Central Europe. Philosophically, we plan to approximate the phenomenon of genius loci [Norb00]. In four cities we create the ontology using mainly verticals in cultural cross-road cities – towers, wells, and places of highest added value (as identified by the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage). We enable sharing these values in wide public and Internet global village population. Thus we create the true bridge between the past and the future. The results contribute to semantic web by the jewel seeds from Prague, Graz, Maribor, and Bratislava. -

SLOVENIAN WINE ROADS There are just three good things in the world: the three big wine regions of Slovenia! www.slovenia.info All roads lead to wine and chilling out! “We eat and drink to live! But we don’t live to eat and drink!“ That‘s what the adage says, telling us that both wine and food are consequences of man‘s economic endeavours, a form of social cohe- sion and a reflection of the immense variety of cultural creativity. That is why it is through wines and dishes that we can recognise life styles, ordinary days and holidays, the efforts of individuals, families and inhabitants of towns, villages and regions. Through this publication we invite you to discover the richness of all three wine-growing regions of Slovenia, which, with its hundreds of years of cultural entanglements, is building its modern recognisability at the junction of the European Alps, the Mediterranean and the Pannonian Plain. It is this very junction that also gives a special and recognisable character to all of our wines and cuisine. Our numerous, often quite boutique and extremely natural wines, include quite a few original or autochthonous specialties, which, along with other wines, can very quickly create unique experiences and relationships for you. Here the path from heart to soul is a very short one... That is exactly why we are offering you several wine routs, which will lead you through the wine-growing regions of Podravje, Posavje and Primorska... To good people and dishes and to noble wines!
