Founded in 1979 with financing provided by The Getty Oil Company, ESPN grew along with the cable television industry to become a mainstay of American popular culture. Final Internal Message at ESPN We Take Great Pride in the Development Of
Final internal message At ESPN we take great pride in the development of future leaders of the company, people who understand our Mission and Values and who make other people better. We have many such individuals at ESPN and I am confident that the list grows longer every day. Secure in that belief and with the support of Bob Iger, today I am announcing that as of January 1, 2012, I will take on the new position of Executive Chairman of ESPN, a position I will hold for at least the next 12 months. In that capacity I will remain Chairman of the ESPN Board but will hand off responsibility for the day-to-day duties as President of ESPN and co-chair of Disney Media Networks. Succession planning has been a focus of Disney's for some time, and consistent with that approach, this is a process that I began last spring. We are in very good shape both domestically and internationally on many fronts, including rights, distribution, ad sales, ratings and digital distribution and I simply decided that after 13 years as president and nearly 31 years at the company, it was a good time for me to step aside and allow others to lead our continuing efforts. Bob and I are extremely excited to share as well that on January 1, John Skipper will assume the duties of President of ESPN and Co-Chair (along with Anne Sweeney) of Disney Media Networks. John's record of achievement as head of our Content Division and his prior experience in Ad Sales and launching ESPN The Magazine have prepared him well to take on these roles. -

Prof. Maria Drakaki bers: Dr. Leonidas Akritidis SCHOOL OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY A thesis submitted for the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Data Science JANUARY 2021 THESSALONIKI – GREECE -ii- Abstract This dissertation was written as a part of the MSc in Data Science at the International Hellenic University. Sports Analytics exist as a term and concept for many years, but nowadays, it is imple- mented in a different way that affects how teams, players, managers, executives, betting companies and fans perceive statistics and sports. Machine Learning can have various applications in Sports Analytics. The most widely used are for prediction of match outcome, player or team performance, market value of a player and injuries prevention. This dissertation focuses on the quintessence of foot- ball, which is match outcome prediction. The main objective of this dissertation is to explore, develop and evaluate machine learning predictive models for English Premier League matches’ outcome prediction. A comparison was made between XGBoost Classifier, Logistic Regression and Support Vector Classifier. The results show that the XGBoost model can outperform the other models in terms of accuracy and prove that it is possible to achieve quite high accuracy using Extreme Gradient Boosting. -iii- Acknowledgements At this point, I would like to thank my Supervisor, Professor Christos Tjortjis, for offer- ing his help throughout the process and providing me with essential feedback and valu- able suggestions to the issues that occurred. -

A Socio-Rhetorical Analysis of Sports-Tagged Content Produced by Youtubers
A Socio-Rhetorical Analysis of Sports-Tagged Content Produced by Youtubers Roselis N. Mazzuchetti;Vinicios Mazzuchetti;Adalberto Dias de Souza;Ismael Barbosa Abstract This research proposes a socio-rhetorical analysis of videos posted on YouTube under the tag “Sports”, specifically the regular content created by users, so-called YouTubers. The theoretical basis contemplates the concept of technology – based on the works by Viera Pinto (2005) – and participatory cultured – mainly guided by ideas from Shirky (2008, 2011). The analytical device is derived from work by Swales (1990, 1998, 2004), Askehave & Swales (2001), and Miller (1998, 2012). A hybrid methodology was created, resulting from the sociological and linguistic concepts applied to the organizational reality of virtual massive communication. The analysis decomposes the video in rhetorical movements. We follow the hypothesis that the main purpose of such communicational practices is self-promotion of the individual who produce the YouTube channel, or the promotion of the brand of which constitutes the channel produced by multiple users. Furthermore, the self- promotion and widening of audience is pursued with financial purpose. Keyword: Technology. Sports. Socio-rhetorical analysis. Many sources publish playoff probabilities or odds throughout the season using advanced statistical methods. These methods are somewhat secretive and typically advanced and difficult to understand. The goal of this work is to determine a way to calculate playoff probabilities midseason that can easily be understood and applied. The goal is to develop a method and compare its predictive accuracy to the current methods published by statistical baseball sources such as Baseball Prospectus and Fangraphs. ii TABLE OF CONTENTS List of Figures .............................................................................................................. iii List of Tables ............................................................................................................... iv Acknowledgements ..................................................................................................... -
