The Coravin system keeps the cork in the bottle while you explore the finest wines by the glass. The wine that remains in the bottle will continue to evolve naturally. Glass, 125ml Millton Clos de Ste Anne Chenin Blanc ‘La Bas’ 2009, Gisborne 20 Golden in colour, lush, complex aromas of dried apricot and honey with a hint of citrus at the back, giving freshness to the nose. The palate is rich and luscious, complex flavours swirl around the mouth, elegant, fresh and a lightness on the palate that belies its 11 years. Schloss Vollrads Kabinett Rheingau Riesling 2006 20 There is a lot of scope for versatility with this sweet, viscous wine, though you can expect to get hints of tropical fruit, nectarine, melon and pineapple from a solid Riesling. The grape originated in the Rhine region of Germany, and the best of them are said to grow along the banks of the Mosel River on the beautiful steep, south facing hills. There are six categories of Riesling which indicate the ripeness of the grapes. Kabinett is considered “off-dry” and is a typically ripe grape. Spätlese is riper and therefore sweeter, and Auslese is even riper still. Beyond on that you have Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein (or ice wine), all getting sweeter, more viscous and more expensive. Penfolds ‘Bin 407’ Cabernet Sauvignon 1999, South Australia 20 Fig, anise and vanilla round out the flavors and are wrapped in a full-bodied, moderately tannic frame laden with American oak. The alcohol is nicely integrated and the middle palate is solid. Perhaps the most impressive quality of this Cabernet is its long, smooth finish. 30 Domaine Faiveley Nuits-St-Georges, 1er Cru ‘Les Porêts-St-Georges’ 2009 The origins of the appellation’s name are not entirely clear. It could be an ancient word for “poiriers” (meaning pear tree). It is situated in the South of the village in the “Les Porêts” climat and its rustic style is similar to that of the “Les Saint-Georges”. Deep ruby red colour. The nose discloses black fruits, toasty notes and a hint of oak. The smooth, round attack gives way to a powerful and structured mid-palate. Te Mata Coleraine 2010, Hawke’s Bay The wine shows Coleraine’s compelling style and substance, exhibiting beautiful primary aromas of 40 blueberry, dark plum and floral with a hint of spicy oak. The palate is concentrated and refined with silky texture and plenty of polished tannins, providing classic structure and frame. Bilancia ‘La Collina’ Syrah 2004, Hawke’s Bay 30 The La Collina vineyard is a steep, terraced and incline planted hillside vineyard on the North/ Northwest facing slopes of Roys Hill, west of Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. The hillside is protected from the cooling effects of the southerly and southwesterly winds and during the growing season is bathed in sunshine. Berries and Hawke’s Bay spice, weighty yet unobtrusive, fine tannins and a beautifully balanced palate. Light on its feet but not light in stature. Reservations Accepted | 10/1/2021 1 Welcome to Virginia’s First Urban Winery! What’s an Urban Winery, you ask? Well, we are. Take a look around, and you’ll see a pretty unique blend of concepts. First and foremost, you’ll see wine made here under our Mermaid label, highlighting the potential of Virginia’s grapes and wine production. Virginia has a rich history of grape growing and winemaking, and we’ve selected the best grapes we can get our hands on for our Mermaid Wines. We primarily work with fruit from our Charlottesville vineyard, with occasional sourcing from other locations if we see the opportunity to make something special. We’ve put together some really enjoyable wines for you to try – some classic, some fun, all delicious. Secondly, you’ll see wines from all around the world. Some you’ll recognize, others you might not. These selections lend to our wine bar-style atmosphere and really enrich the experience by offering a wide range of wines to be tried. They’re all available by the bottle, and most by the glass and flight as well, right alongside our Mermaid Wines. The staff can tell you all about any of them, so rest assured that you’ll never be drinking blind. These wines also rotate with the season, and there’s always something new to try. We have a full kitchen too, with a diverse menu that can carry you through lunch, brunch and dinner from the lightest snack to a full-on meal. With dishes that can be easily paired with a variety of our wines, make sure you try anything that catches your eye.

  • 2018 ALAIN De La TREILLE Vouvray Chenin Blanc France – Loire Valley – Vouvray
KYSELA PERE et FILS, LTD. www.kysela.com 2018 ALAIN de la TREILLE Vouvray Chenin Blanc France – Loire Valley – Vouvray ABOUT MAISON ALAIN de la TREILLE Alain de la Treille was a farmer and wine enthusiast, who grew up in Touraine & spent his life promoting the Touraine area and Loire Valley wines. He became great friends with Jean-Claude Bougrier, a winemaker from Saint Georges sur Cher. The two could spend hours talking about Loire Valley style, terroir and how to improve the vinification process. When Alain passed away in 1985, Jean-Claude decided to create a wine brand to pay tribute to his good friend, and Alain de la Treille wines were born. Jean- Claude’s son Noël took over in 1988, becoming the fifth generation of his family to make wine. Noel created 3 cellars, widening the wine growing area of the estate to the entire Loire Valley, from Sancerre to the Pays Nantais. Noël Bougrier still runs the winery today, with help from son Nicolas and daughter Sophie. The vineyards cover 100 hectares (247 acres), with vines averaging 25 years old. Wines are made under the direction of Lionel Métaireau. A sixth-generation winemaker, he is native of Le Pallet in the Muscadet vineyard, close to Nantes. ABOUT THE WINE This Vouvray Chenin Blanc is stunning, elegant and fresh, with a soft and ripe fruit palate marrying hints of honey and apricots.
