The Pete Fornatale Collection includes photographs, negatives, notebooks pertaining to “Mixed Bag” radio show, copious handwritten notes and notebooks, handwritten song lists, correspondence and publication drafts. Biographical History: Pete Fornatale was one of the architects of Progressive Rock FM in the 1960s, and he has one of the most recognizable voices in rock radio. He has been a fixture on the New York dial for four decades, starting his career at in November 1963 at WFUV as a Fordham undergraduate hosting "Campus Caravan," and then moving on to WNEW-FM in 1969 and K-Rock in 1989. Upon Pete’s passing, he was the host of "Mixed Bag", broadcast on Saturdays from 4-8pm on WFUV 90.7 in New York. The long-running show started as a Sunday morning program in late December of 1982 on WNEW. On a humorous note, Pete remembers getting a fan letter the following week from a then unknown singer-songwriter named Suzanne Vega. She would eventually become a recurring guest on the show. Pete is the author of several books about media, pop culture and music, including "The Rock Music Source Book," "Radio in the Television Age," The Story of Rock 'n' Roll" and "All You Need Is Love." He was also the primary writer of "The Elvis Collection," a 600 trading card series on the life of Elvis Presley.

Nets Profit in Winter Concert packed the Schreiber audito- rium on Friday, February 10 in an unprecedented winter con- cert. Nearly the entire gamut of rock and roll mudc was played before an audience of over 450, mainly Schreiber students. A t 8:00 P.M., a crowd consist- ing of students, graduates, and parents began to fill the audito- rium. Administrator Alphonse Campbell, armed with G.O. representatives, Jon Schoen and Steve Schneiderman, ad- dressed the audience and intro- duced the bend. Observing the boisterous audience, Mr. Campbell admonished students against "excessive screaming* and detailed several rules, in- cluding forced expulsion from the proceedings (followed by school suspension) for any drinking or drug uam. Sohoan and Schneiderman followed with an introduction of the band. TTie Mystic Rhythms, con- sisting of vocalist Craig Giants, percussionist Rob Bordsn, bas- sist Mark Overend, guitar-key- boardist Rick Viesta, and gui- tarist Adam Zimmon, played a two hour, 20-pi u s song perform- ance. As this was Schreiber's first winter c o n c e r t , the admini- stration had fielded no definite policies regarding certain as- pects of the show. This became apparent from the onset.

Traditional histories suggest that audience members value technologies of illusion for their mystery: when they understand the mechanism responsible for an effect, they lose interest in that technology. This view is empirically unsupported. Instead, technologies of illusion should be considered not as apparent violations of nature but as representations of violations of nature. Like all representations, their effectiveness hinges not on the deception of the audience by the performer but on collaboration between both parties to establish the illusion within the socio-cultural contexts that give it meaning. The analysis of three case studies, each of which embodies one of the main fields in which technologies of illusion were used in performance in nineteenth-century London, supports this understanding. The ghost illusion jointly developed by Henry Dircks and John Henry Pepper in 1862 and presented by the latter at the Royal Polytechnic Institution is representative of technologies of illusion used in popular-science demonstrations.
