acusports.com 2012-13 ACU WILDCAT MEN’S BASKETBALL 1 JOE GOLDING HEAD COACH • SECOND SEASON Former Abilene Christian letterman and assistant basketball coach Joe Golding is at the start of his second season as the head men’s basketball coach at his alma mater. He was hired July 18, 2011 by his former teammate, ACU director of athletics Jared Mosley, after Grant McCasland left ACU to become an assistant coach at Baylor University. After the Wildcats finished 12-16 in 2011-12, Golding and his assistant coaches pared the roster of every player but one from last year, brought in 11 new players and set their sights on pushing the Wildcats back into the Lone Star Conference Championship. Senior center Steven Werner transferred to ACU from Sam Houston State and could be one of the top big men in the league, while the backcourt duo of Eric Lawton and Elliott Lloyd could give the Wildcats two of the top guards in the LSC. Junior forward Cornelius Cammock also figures to play a large role for the Wildcats. Golding also is excited about freshman guard Parker Wentz, who was one of the top prep players in the state last year at Trinity Christian High School in Lubbock. Wentz will be a major contributor to the Wildcats from the get-go and could earn a starting spot as THE GOLDING FILE the Wildcats go with a smaller, quicker lineup.
