SECTION 1 Reasons for urgency The Defendant’s decision, of which the public has had no advance notice, came into force with immediate effect. It is likely that, pursuant to that decision, unlawful abortions will be taking place within days rather than weeks, and may well be taking place already. That entails serious risks to the health and well-being of the patients (see the expert evidence at p.p. [ref] of the bundle), and that the protection given in law to the life of unborn children is not complied with. It is therefore necessary to consider this claim as a matter of urgency. He presented the new draft Master Plan which set out the vision and growth predictions for the next twenty years up to the year 2037. The previous Master Plan was published in November 2006, following public consultation. Since then the global recession of 2007/8 had a marked impact on regional aviation. The Master Plan proposals included the development of a runway extension, expansion of aviation facilities including the expansion of the existing terminal. It also highlighted the necessity of the increase in public transport use as access to the airport to 31% by the year 2037.

I understand that a number of individuals have been arrested in relation to the incident, but that no charges have yet been made. Therefore, the House’s sub judice resolution is not yet formally engaged. However, I remind all Members to exercise caution and avoid referring to the details of specific cases in order to avoid saying anything that might compromise any ongoing investigation or subsequent prosecution. … Robert Halfon (Conservative): To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if she will make a statement on recent antisemitic attacks across the UK. The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government (Robert Jenrick): No one could fail to be appalled by the disgraceful scenes of antisemitic abuse directed at members of the Jewish community in the past week. In Chigwell, Rabbi Rafi Goodwin was hospitalised after being attacked outside his synagogue. In London, activists drove through Golders Green and Finchley, both areas with large Jewish populations, apparently shouting antisemitic abuse through a megaphone. These are intimidatory, racist and extremely serious crimes. The police have since made four arrests for racially aggravated public order offences and have placed extra patrols in the St John’s Wood and Golders Green areas.

    Amnesty International Cambridge City Group May 2016 - April 2017 Cambridge Cambridge is an extraordinary city. It is immensely rich - intellectually, historically, culturally, financially. The University of Cambridge has nurtured more Nobel Prize winners than any other institution. Its thriving high tech industries produce the most patent applications in the country. It comes only second in the tables for pupils achieving good GCSE results in maths and English. It has a high population of young people, very few of whom claim benefits. The average weekly income is near the top nationally, as are house prices. As are house prices. Cambridge is the most unequal city in the country. Listed third for house unaffordability, a rise of 122% in homelessness over 2015, five food banks in the city centre, lowest per capita welfare spending, with 30% of children living in poverty in three of the city wards : the difference between those who have and those who have not is stark. This is the environment in which the Amnesty International Cambridge City Group works, a vibrant exciting place to be with problems common to the rest of the country. Cambridge was an early participant in the Amnesty movement. The group, the eighteenth still active in the country, was established in February 1969, a year of great social upheaval in Europe. The relationship between those in power and those who felt unrepresented was put to the test, sometimes violently. In 2016 that relationship was tested on the world stage. The Amnesty International Report 2016-17 says : ‘For millions, 2016 was a year of unrelenting misery and fear, as governments and armed groups abused human rights in a multitude of ways.’ With growing suppression comes growing resistance, an awareness that inaction is not an option.

    Making a Hasty Brexit? Ministerial Turnover and Its Implications Jessica R. Adolino, Ph. D. Professor of Political Science James Madison University Draft prepared for presentation at the European Studies Association Annual Meeting May 9-12, 2019, Denver, Colorado Please do not cite or distribute without author’s permission. By almost any measure, since the immediate aftermath of the June 16, 2016 Brexit referendum, the British government has been in a state of chaos. The turmoil began with then- Prime Minister David Cameron’s resignation on June 17 and succession by Theresa May within days of the vote. Subsequently, May’s decision to call a snap election in 2017 and the resulting loss of the Conservatives’ parliamentary majority cast doubt on her leadership and further stirred up dissension in her party’s ranks. Perhaps more telling, and the subject of this paper, is the unprecedented number of ministers1—from both senior and junior ranks—that quit the May government over Brexit-related policy disagreements2. Between June 12, 2017 and April 3, 2019, the government witnessed 45 resignations, with high-profile secretaries of state and departmental ministers stepping down to return to the backbenches. Of these, 34 members of her government, including 9 serving in the Cabinet, departed over issues with some aspect of Brexit, ranging from dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister’s Withdrawal Agreement, to disagreements about the proper role of Parliament, to questions about the legitimacy of the entire Brexit process. All told, Theresa May lost more ministers, and at a more rapid pace, than any other prime minister in modern times.
