The village of Es Cubells is only one kilometre from the villa, so within easy walking distance; here visitors will find all amenities such as supermarket, bar and restaurants as well as a church. Just a five-minute drive will take guests to Sant Josep where there is a further supermarket; the village of San José is ten minutes driving distance away. The closest beaches are Ses Boques, Cala d’Hort and Cala Yundal. Ibiza city is only sixteen kilometres away while the airport is thirteen kilometres away. Although it is known for its iconic hedonism and party lifestyle, Ibiza’s lesser- known side is its quiet, traditional village life, beautiful and rugged coastline with dozens of tiny coves to explore, as well as a vibrant and intriguing history. The major European nightclubs have summer outposts around Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni; and just a stone’s throw from these, visitors can balance the excess by indulging in yoga retreats, quiet villages, and sandy coves backed by the pine-clad hills. The island is stunning in Spring when the almond blossom is out. For a cultural fix, explore the hilltop Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town, before slipping into a pavement cafe to soak up the bohemian vibe. Abstract: The rocky island of Es Vedrà, off the south-western tip of Ibiza, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, features prominently in tourism materials and in related social media postings. Its scenic aspects have prompted a physical orientation of shoreline buildings around its vista and it has also been the subject of accounts detailing its allegedly mysterious attributes. The latter derive, in part, from regional histories and folklore but more fundamentally relate to recent New Age/counter-cultural perceptions of the various “energies” that have been perceived to flow around parts of Ibiza and the enfolding of Es Vedrà, in particular, within a set of generic associations of mystical spatiality. Following a discussion of the latter, this article identifies the development of the area around Es Vedrà and the rocky island’s representation as a specially “charged” location. Drawing on these aspects, the article identifies the manner in which the rarely visited island is, simultaneously, highly visible and overlaid by cultural associations that effectively “cloud” its materiality.
