The trumpeter worked through a series of daring artistic St. Louis, Missouri phases represented by the exhibition’s six sections. Visitors will hear the sound of his emotional . playing, learn the story of how Davis recorded and performed his music, and trace his rise as one of the most influential creative artists of his time. . Davis’ music is also placed in broader context. Miles describes the influence of the Great Migration on the music of East St. Louis and the entire region; the revolutionary movement in jazz; Miles Davis made some the “cool” attitude of the 1950s; the intersection of jazz and the civil rights movement; and the significance of fashion and the visual arts in Davis’ life. The exhibition will also feature a timeline of of the most beautiful and events in East St. Louis history.
