Today, thanks to your foresight, millions of men put on Tefilin daily, millions of candles brighten Shabbat tables, millions of pennies have filled millions of pushkas and millions of Jewish homes have been touched. Where others have made committees; waited for grants to be approved; set up subcommittes; decided that due to lack of funding a program woud have to be aborted; and built wonderful edifices with skyscrapping offices; You and your emissaries have demonstrated that a touch of Jew on need only have the willingness, determination, and a real understanding of what Ahavas Yisroel means. Chabad is dedicated to the strengthening of our Judaic faith, principles, identity, commitment, and pride. Chabad House is a unique and vibrant center, providing a home away from home for everyone who walks through its doors. Its Rabbis, staff and volunteer workers are pioneers in the most literal sense, treading a path and showing the way to bring the light of Torah and tradition to all. Acceptance of everyone on their own level, regardless of their level of religious commitment or practice, has become a trademark of Chabad. And by blending Jewish values with modern day techniques, we have been successful in reaching even the most alienated, helping them appreciate their roots and identify with their Judaism with pride. Thanks to G-d’s infinite blessings and generous support and involvement of members of the community, Chabad of Great Neck has grown rapidly during these nineteen years. We need your help! Every dollar you give will go directly to support our educational and social programs. Please, help us continue our important work. Become a partner in this special Mitzvah. • What Is the Head of School's Responsibility
Blog Post: What is the Head of School’s Responsibility for Teacher Development? By Rabbi Marc Baker, Head of School at Gann Academy in Waltham, MA February 18, 2011 At the recent North American Jewish Day School Conference, I had the privilege of co- presenting one of the sessions with Sharon Feiman-Nemser and Vivian Troen, two colleagues from the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education at Brandeis University. Our session addressed new teacher induction, or the various ways that a school supports and develops its new teachers. Gann has invested significant resources over the past several years in this induction process, and one of the things I have learned is that, when done well, induction does much more than support new teachers; it actually can transform teaching and learning in the entire school. My part of the presentation focused on the role of the Head of School in the induction of new teachers and, during a case study that we presented, I was surprised and a bit disturbed by a debate that surfaced about the Head’s responsibility to new teachers. One of the participants in the session suggested that new teachers either “have it or they don’t” and that it is really their job to seek out the help they need. This belief underlies an approach to new teacher induction that is limited to “orientation,” helping teachers adjust to a new school in cultural and technical ways. Instead, my co-presenters and I suggested that we need a completely different understanding of teachers and teaching. New teachers, like new doctors or new athletes, are just beginning to learn a complex craft.

When the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly changed our lives this spring, sending students home and curtailing so many of the activities we all would have experienced had they remained on campus, most painful was the postponement of the University’s Commencement exercises that are traditionally the highlight of the academic year. Our graduates have gained the experiences and knowledge that their careers and future engagements will demand of them. Ours is a campus where students learn by doing, and our graduates have already proven themselves — winning prestigious case competitions and grants, publishing papers that have gained acclaim from scientists and scholars, and bettering their communities through hands-on internships and practicums. Outside the classroom, they have embraced their responsibilities as active members of the community. They’ve raised funds to combat deadly disease, provided food for the hungry, taught younger students in local schools and traveled across the globe to work with and learn from their international peers.
