Explain. 168 vn ABSTRACT To formulate a template for designing a Personalized Syllabus for Pre-Ministry Development (PSPD) to help facilitate the preparation of potential candidates for Ordained Baptist Ministry, 100 representatives who are active in 12 evaluative stages in the present process towards Ordained Ministry within the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches completed a three-item questionnaire. They identified 16 Qualifying Factors (QFs) that they use to determine a candidate's potential for effective ministry, including Calling, Spiritual Readiness, and Theological Education and Reflection. Respondents also suggested 19 areas in which candidates could be better prepared for individual stages in the process, as well as the total process, towards Ordained Baptist Ministry, including Follow-up and Support throughout the process, Preparation for Interviews, and Further Information Regarding the Process. Based on these results, a template was formulated for use in designing a PSPD for each potential candidate for Ordained Ministry. The template appears in Appendix E, with a suggested partial PSPD for the QF of Calling.     Blog Post: What is the Head of School’s Responsibility for Teacher Development? By Rabbi Marc Baker, Head of School at Gann Academy in Waltham, MA February 18, 2011 At the recent North American Jewish Day School Conference, I had the privilege of co- presenting one of the sessions with Sharon Feiman-Nemser and Vivian Troen, two colleagues from the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education at Brandeis University. Our session addressed new teacher induction, or the various ways that a school supports and develops its new teachers. Gann has invested significant resources over the past several years in this induction process, and one of the things I have learned is that, when done well, induction does much more than support new teachers; it actually can transform teaching and learning in the entire school. My part of the presentation focused on the role of the Head of School in the induction of new teachers and, during a case study that we presented, I was surprised and a bit disturbed by a debate that surfaced about the Head’s responsibility to new teachers. One of the participants in the session suggested that new teachers either “have it or they don’t” and that it is really their job to seek out the help they need. This belief underlies an approach to new teacher induction that is limited to “orientation,” helping teachers adjust to a new school in cultural and technical ways. Instead, my co-presenters and I suggested that we need a completely different understanding of teachers and teaching. New teachers, like new doctors or new athletes, are just beginning to learn a complex craft.

We are to be creating new segments on events and activities that are going on at Hillel. Sessions on 3-D display, supercomputing and imaging at the nanoscale were the talk of the conference, and advances in these areas generated buzz throughout the event.
