Experience the Special Rodeo at the Jurupa Valley Pro Rodeo. R The Special Rodeo is an event for special needs children, which takes place at 5:30 PM, before the PRCA rodeo. The fun starts with the kids coming into the arena to be, for a little while, rodeo stars. After being outfitted with a special t-shirt, a hat and bandana and of course their back number. The kids proceed to go through a series of simulated rodeo events, including a chance to ride on a real horse. Safety is of utmost importance and everything is done to make the kids feel special for this little moment in time. The Special Rodeo is made possible by volunteers, funded by the generosity of our sponsor Luke’s Transmission and is done at no charge to the families whose children participate. Up to 24 children, 12 and under can participate in this unique and heartwarming event. Come early and join us cheering on our special kids at the Jurupa Valley ProRodeo.

National Anthem

The “Star Spangled Banner” was written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key and declared the National Anthem in 1931. When the anthem is played or sung, citizens should stand and face the flag to show their respect for the United States. A non-uniformed person wearing a hat must remove it with the right hand and hold it against the left shoulder, right hand resting over the heart. Those in uniform and veterans should stand at attention and salute the flag. (Note: If flag is not displayed, face the music instead.)

MUTTON BUSTING

n the event, a is held still, either in a small chute or by an adult Ihandler while a child is placed on top in a riding position. Once the child is seated atop the sheep, the sheep is released and usually starts to run in an attempt to get the child off. Often small prizes or ribbons are given out to the children who can stay on the longest. There are no set rules for mutton busting, no national organization, and most events are organized at the local level. The vast majority of children participating in the event fall off in less than 8 seconds. Age, height and weight restrictions on participants generally prevent injuries to the sheep, and implements such as are banned from use. In most cases, children are required to wear helmets and parents are often asked to sign waivers to protect the rodeo from legal action in the event of injury.

14 Jurupa Valley ProRodeo 2019 BARRELL RACING Turn and Burn

he Women's Professional Rodeo Association was formed in 1948 when thirty-eight cowgirls Tcame together in San Angelo, Texas to create an organization dedicated ...to the promotion and advancement of women in the sport of rodeo. The earliest pioneers of the Girl's Rodeo Association (GRA) were ropers, bronc riders, and barrel racers. They were fed up with a system which did not grant them competitive opportunities in the arena and, when it did, operated under unfair conditions. The GRA began with 74 original members with 60 approved contests and total payout of $29,000. In 1981 the GRA changed its name to the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association. It is the oldest women’s sports association in the country and the only one governed entirely by women. Today, the fast paced event of barrel racing dominates the activities of most WPRA members. WPRA barrel racers compete for millions of dollars each year, culminating in twelve circuit finals rodeos held throughout the country, the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo held in Kissimmee, Florida in April, and the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo held in Las Vegas each December.
