Context

Biographical Note Born in Stockholm, Sweden 1938, died in Lockerbie, Scotland 1988; joined the social democratic youth league at the age of sixteen; studied economics at the university of Stockholm; assistant to the Minister of Commerce in 1967; International Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of Sweden in 1970; secretary-general of the Socialist International (SI) from 1976-1983; Commissioner for Namibia of the United Nations (UN); killed in the airplane crash near Lockerbie, on his way to New York for the ceremony marking the Namibia peace .

Acquisition Papers donated to the IISH by Carin Palmcrantz, Leksand (Sweden) in 1989.

Contents Appointment diaries 1977-1982; correspondence, largely from his SI period, 1972, 1975-1983, partly marked `private'; notes and internal memoranda of the SI 1977-1983; financial documents 1977-1982; a few typescripts of articles 1975-1976; some travelling documents 1977-1978.

Arrangement The existing order of the archive, mainly a division in correspondence, notes en documents has been maintained, apart from a few corrections.
