Edward John Keaton was born at Alverstoke, Hampshire, on 14 May 1879, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. Boscawen on 14 May 1895. He served aboard Alacrity from January 1899, as an Able Seaman, to March 1903 by which time he had risen to become a Petty Officer 1st Class. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal in May 1910 whilst serving in Venerable and died of heart disease on 22 June 1912 whilst serving in Hindustan. Sold with copied record of service. 333 CHINA 1900, 2 clasps, Taku Forts, Relief of Pekin (T. J. Robb, 2 Yeo. Sigls. H.M.S. Alacrity) good very fine £500-600 42 medals with two clasps issued to this ship. Thomas James Robb was born at Dover, Kent, on 25 April 1874, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. Trincomalee on 25 April 1892. He served aboard Alacrity as a Yeoman Signaller 2nd Class from January 1899 to 17 December 1900. He was promoted to acting Signal Boatswain on 1 April 1903, confirmed 8 April 1904, and about that time changed his name to Gladstone. He served ashore at home during the Great War on signal duties at the signal schools of Vivid and Victory, service which qualified him for the British War Medal. Ending the war as a Chief Signal Boatswain, he died on 17 September 1945.     A sentinal appeared carrying one of Goering’s fine leather cases. ’I felt you should see this, sir.’ He opened it to reveal the big- gest collection of pills I had ever seen in my life. There were approximately twenty thousand pills in the case that Goering claimed were for a heart ailment. He would take them by the handfull, 20 in the morning and 20 at night. They were Paracodin a German syn- thetic drug used when morphine was not available. Also found among his clothes and personal effects were several ’tiny vials of Potas- sium Cyanide’. Examined each vial had enough cyanide to bring in- stant death to a dozen men. One of these vials, Goering managed to keep concealed for over a year until he committed "suicide with it only hours before he was to be hanged.     Richard Rustin Military Books Donated 3 October 2009 THE RUSTIN MILITARY COLLECTION The Rustin Military Collection consists of nearly a thousand military books and periodicals collected by Richard E. Rustin during his lifetime. His wife, Ginette Rustin, donated this collection from his estate to the Archive Center and Genealogy Department, Indian River County Main Library, in October 2009 – April 2010. Richard E. Rustin passed away July, 2008. His wife considered him a genius regarding military history. He was a brilliant writer, a former reporter, manager and assistant chief of the New York news bureau. He edited coverage at the heart of the Wall Street Journal’s financial and economic news operations. He served in the U. S. Navy as an officer from 1956 to 1959. The focus of his collection centered on World War I and World War II. The collection also includes books on the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Mexican War, Korean War, and Viet Nam War, among others. Regimental histories and books of detailed campaigns, military science, military equipment and biography predominate. The library is very fortunate to have such a magnificent research collection containing many rare, out of print and hard to find volumes. It should be of great interest to anyone exploring military history. To date, the complete collection has been processed and is available to the public in the Genealogy Department. It is designed to give the reader an insight into the complex drivers at work over time, by showing how many events were occurring simultaneously. It is also designed to guide future research by serious scholars, who would verify all data independently as a matter of sound scholarship and never accept this as being valid in its own right. Read together, they indicate a trend, whereas read in isolation, they become sterile facts devoid of much meaning. Given that they are “facts”, their origin is generally not cited, as a fact belongs to nobody. On occasion where an interpretation is made, then the commentator’s name is cited as appropriate. Where similar information is shown for different dates, it is because some confusion exists on the exact detail of that event, so the reader must use caution when interpreting it, because a “fact” is something over which no alternate interpretation can be given. The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is the Sponsor of a proposed change to the current arrangements and procedures in the immediate airspace surrounding the airport. As the airport operators, and operators of the current Class D Controlled Airspace (CAS), RAF Brize Norton is managing this process on behalf of the MOD. If approved, the proposed change will provide enhanced protection to aircraft on the critical stages of flight in departure and final approach, and will provide connectivity between the RAF Brize Norton Control Zone (CTR) and the UK Airways network. In addition, the Airspace Change will deliver new Instrument Flight Procedures (IFP) utilising Satellite Based Navigation which will futureproof the procedures used at the Station. As part of the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) Guidance on the Application of the Airspace Change Process (Civil Aviation Publication (CAP) 725) [Reference 1], BZN is required to submit a case to the CAA to justify its proposed Airspace Change, and to undertake consultation with all relevant stakeholders.

Journalists wrote about it at the time, many people who were involved wrote about it in the immediate years that followed, and historians have tried to put it all together. The issues of foreign policy at the strategic level and the military operations that took place in this period have been especially well covered. However, the question of military strategic alternatives in this important era of British foreign policy has been less studied.
