NE of the chief requisites of a Nineteenth Cen- tury book is a good preface, and it is therefor e with some hesitation that the committee ven- tures to send forth the RECORD OF THE CLAS S of '87," with nothing more formidable than a prefatory note to introduce it . The committee for a long time recognize d the fact that there was something lacking i n modern English literature, and that there wa s a crying need for a work which should fill the deficiency . Excellent as are the literary contributions of Howells, James, Haggard, Dr . M'Cosh , Dean Stanley, Matthew Arnold, and Peck, of the Milwaukee Sun, and, in a somewhat different, though equally important field, the works o f Professors John G . R. McElroy and Albert S . Bolles—admirable as al l these efforts undoubtedly are, still the Ultima Thule of desirability ha s not yet been reached. Strongly impressed with the necessity of doing away with thi s reproach to literature, the committee has determined to give to the worl d this RECORD of the unexampled career of an unexampled class. Exactly how the book is to supply the need on account of which it was created , will become evident as the reader approaches the southern cover . Th e contents of the RECORD will be seen to be at once explanatory an d definitive, narrative and descriptive, argumentative and excitatory, per- suasive and conclusive . The style in which it is written is both patheti c and amusing, sacred and profane . If the last-named element shoul d ever seem to attain to undue proportions, the committee begs the reade r to weigh well the enormous effect of childhoods influences, and to b e lenient with those whose early education was left to the care of such me n as the Reverend Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg, D . D . Many friends—more than could be readily mentioned here—hav e helped the committee in its work . Besides the classmates, whos e personalities are but partially concealed in the work which they hav e contributed, the Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania is deservin g of especial thanks . To the Faculty the committee owes what is wort h more than help—inspiration during hours of gloom, and also a never - failing butt for all gibes and jokes . Carreira' (decided January 12, 2010) Raven Carreira was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated. 2 Carreira con- tended that her Confrontation Clause rights under the United States and New York Constitutions' were violated when the People failed to "produce the authors of [breathalyzer certification records] for cross- examination."4 Therefore, the record's "admission and the . evi- dence [the records] support[ed]" should have been precluded.' The court granted the defendant's motion to preclude the evidence and held that the "simulator solution and calibration records [were] testi- monial for Sixth Amendment purposes and . inadmissible absent live testimony by those who prepared them."6 The prosecution sought to prove Carreira's intoxication by us- ing the evidence taken from the breathalyzer' administered to Carrei- 893 N.Y.S.2d 844 (Watertown City Ct.

Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. She died in 1825 in Culbertson's Run, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. She married John Culbertson about 1767.     EARL A. POPE PAPERS, SKILLMAN LIBRARY 1828-2003 LAFAYETTE COLLEGE BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Born in Tulca, Romania, on August 18, 1920, Earl A. Pope immigrated to the United States with his parents, Moses and Lena Pope, in 1923 (they celebrated Earl’s third birthday aboard the trans-Atlantic ship). After growing up in Akron, Ohio, where he graduated from Garfield High School in 1939, he attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, earning an A.B. in Religion and an M.A. in Theology. He enrolled in Yale University Divinity School, where he was awarded a M.Div. degree in the History of Christianity. In 1948, while at Yale, he met Miriam (Mim) Nilsen, in Cromwell, Connecticut; they were married on September 9, 1950. For the next decade, The Rev. Earl A. Pope, ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church of America, was the minister of churches in Floral Park, NY (1950-53), Cranston, RI (1954-57), and Rumford, RI (1957-60). While serving at the Rumford church, he also served for two years as a teaching fellow at Brown University, where he earned a Ph.D. in Religious Studies and American History. In 1960, Pope joined the Faculty of Lafayette College, where he taught in the Department of Religion for the next 30 years. While rising through the ranks of assistant, associate, and full professor and eventually being named (in 1988) the Helen H. P. Manson Professor of Bible, he also served in several administrative positions, including Head of the Religion Department (1977-85) and Dean of Studies (1970-72). Popular and effective as a teacher, Pope taught courses in scripture, world religions, religious history, ecumenism, and interfaith relations.

    The History Of Christ Church Pottstown, Pa. Compiled by MORISON BLAKE, USNR-RET. + 1964 1846 1964 FOREWORD In compiling the history of a church many sources must be sought out and consulted. The newspaper clippings collected over a long period of time by the late Frederick W. Ancona have been of inestimable help. The History of Christ Church written and privately printed by the late William Herbert Price has suggested many areas to explore in even more detail then he was able to do at the time of his writing. Our parent church, St. Gabriel’s of Douglassville, published recently, a monograph of its history and through the courtesy of the Rector, Reverend Lloyd L. Wolf, a copy was given to Christ Church to aid in obtaining the background of our heritage. The Pottstown Mercury has been most generous in permitting incorporation of items appearing in its pages concerning Christ Church, which are of value in the history of a church. Too much cannot be said for the assistance of the staff of the Pottstown Public Library in making available sources of collateral Pottstown history which fitted the community activities of Christ Church.
