That’s because he was HIV-positive and his hookup, Dwayne Cook, claimed Merithew failed to disclose his status before the two engaged in oral and anal sex. That’s a four-year felony in Michigan and has been since 1989. His mother, Teresa Perrin, has been by his side for the whole fight. “It’s been a heartbreaking experience in what he’s gone through,” she said, “and not being able to get him out of it, and the way he was treated and the unfairness of it all.” Both Perrin and Merithew were in Lansing last week to lobby lawmakers to change Michigan’s law. Iowa, California and Illinois have all modernized their laws in recent years. Matthew Craig, coalition director for the Michigan Coalition for HIV Health and Safety, said having Merithew accompany the group in lobbying efforts to reform and modernize Michigan’s laws is important. “As far as when it comes to a personal story and talking about how Michigan’s HIV criminalization laws affect Michiganders, I think it’s important that we have people who have been affected badly by this law be able to speak to their own experiences,” Jeremy Merithew with his mother, Teresa Perrin, has been by his side for the whole fight. he said. “Basically, our ability to translate to lawmakers and let them know that this is chained me to the floor and, they sat there and transmitting the virus. actually published my online profile picture, something we need them to change.” interviewed me for over an hour or whatever It still grinds now 37-year-old Merithew which was a full nude picture, on the 6 o’clock Craig’s coalition is working with lawmakers after they let me sit there for a while and stew to this day. news,” he said. “So yes. • Mikky Ekko Has Come Home. He Recorded His 2015 Debut Album
Mikky Ekko has come home. He recorded his 2015 debut album, Time, in places as far-flung as London, Stockholm, and Los Angeles, plus any point on the compass where inspiration struck while he was on tour with Justin Timberlake, One Republic and Jessie Ware. But he wanted to record Fame, his next album, in the city that had proved both a permanent address and an inspiration for him since moving there in 2005 to attend college. It’s said that people have lucky cities, a geographic location where they seem to flourish or feel that they are their best selves. Although born in Shreveport, Louisiana, with its rich history of country rock and electric blues, Ekko found such a place in Nashville. It allowed him the freedom to be who he wanted to be — starting with those early gigs he played at 12th and Porter with slashes of red painted across his chiseled face. It informed the haunting music of his largely a cappella 2009 dreamscape Strange Fruit, a five-song EP he recorded while still a student at nearby Middle Tennessee State University that had far more in common with Brian Eno than it did Billie Holiday. A restless creator — sometimes writing two songs a day, starting most days at 4:45 am — Ekko quickly followed up Strange Fruit with two companion EPs the next year: Reds and Blues. One of the songs on Reds, "Who Are You, Really,” made its way to underground beatsmith Clams Casino, known mainly for his work with ASAP Rocky, Lil B and The Weeknd.

WRCU 2/10 ROTATIONS RIYL = Recommended If You Like Alone, Omen 3 by King Krule RIYL: Cosmo Pyke, Ariel Pink The chameleonic singer-songwriter is gearing up for the February 21st release of his next album, Man Alive!, with single "Alone, Omen 3", which displays elements of both the stark, rough-shod post-punk of his first record, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, and the more eclectic art pop leanings of his second, The OOZ. But "Alone, Omen 3" also hints at a new, psychedelically inclined direction for Marshall, featuring a more understated vocal performance and a woozy, meditative tone. By Colin Jones Run by Joji RIYL: James Blake, Rejjie Snow George Kusunoki Miller began his online career as Filthy Frank (a sketch comedy act), transitioned to Pink Guy (a comedy rapper), and finally realized his full musical form as Joji, the lo-fi hip hop artist inspired by Donald Glover and influenced by electronic and R&B music. On “Run,” a haunting, mysterious electric guitar snakes its way through the song supported by heartbreaking lyrics. Imagine you’re driving along a coastal highway, top-down, feeling the wind, letting the song’s words wash over you, and thinking of your last great love...all while wearing a bad-ass, black leather jacket. That’s what this song is like. By Chase Garvey-Daniels Shangri-La by EOB RIYL: Radiohead, The Postal Service Shangri-la is one of three singles released ahead of Radiohead frontman Edward O'Brien’s upcoming album, which will be called “Earth”. This is O’Brien’s debut album as a solo artist, marking the end of (or at least a break from) his 20+ years with Radiohead.

  • Mayor's Report March 2018
20th Mayor’s Report to the Assembly Mayor’s Question Time – 22nd March 2018 This is my twentieth Mayor’s Report to the Assembly, fulfilling my duty under Section 45 of the Greater London Authority Act 1999. It covers the period from 9th February – 8th March 2018. Executive summary £24 million for local communities to play a role in regeneration On 7 March I awarded £24 million of funding to projects from across the capital that will enable local people to take an active role in the regeneration of their communities. More than 200 bids for funding were made to my Good Growth Fund, delivered through the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP), and 27 are now being taken forward, with several organisations receiving funding in the next few months. All of the successful projects will deliver social and economic improvements including investment in community assets, workspaces, green infrastructure and cultural venues. I am using this funding to challenge preconceptions about how regeneration takes place. I want to give all Londoners – regardless of background – the opportunity to be actively involved in their city and have more places to live, learn, work and play. The projects I announced funding for today will help us to tackle inequality, strengthen civil society, and ensure the benefits of regeneration are felt by all. Tackling the ‘injustice’ of pay inequality On 2 March, I stepped up the fight against pay inequality in the capital by publishing for the first time ever comprehensive data on the pay gap affecting Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) employees for all organisations in the Greater London Authority (GLA) Group, making it among the first employers in the country to do so.

  • Wetransfer and King Krule Announce New Video Collaboration
WeTransfer and King Krule announce new video collaboration King Krule presents video for ‘Biscuit Town’ from his Mercury Prize nominated album 'The OOZ' as the first of a three-part video collaboration with WeTransfer. Photography: Still from 'Biscuit Town'. Today King Krule releases a music video for "Biscuit Town," the opening track from his Mercury Prize nominated album The OOZ. The video comes as the first of a three-part collaboration with WeTransfer, which sees King Krule explore the creative process with each video’s director, hosted on WePresent. Directed by friends and long-term collaborators cc. Wade (aka Michael and Paraic Morrissey), the video sees King Krule (aka Archy Marshall) inhabiting his own noir ‘Biscuit Town’- waking up and retracing his footsteps through the city, piecing together the remnants of a hazy, half- remembered night before. A reflection of his futuristic, jazz-inflected, film-inspired sound, the video serves to compliment the warm, dreamlike quality of ‘Biscuit Town’. King Krule’s second LP The OOZ was released in October last year to wide spread critical acclaim, and follows on from 2013’s also critically lauded album Six Feet Beneath the Moon. In the interim, Archy Marshall also released A New Place 2 Drown, a collaborative multimedia projects with his brother, Jack. Still only 23 years-old, Archy Marshall has created his own immersive universe to inhabit. Watch the video here and step into King Krule’s "Biscuit Town.” Images for press use All images must be captioned and credited, only to be used in the context of this press release.
