A PARTNERSHIP WITH MACKAY CUTTERS 2021 & BEYOND Version 1 October 2020 MACKAY CUTTERS The game of Rugby League has been a staple in the community of Mackay for as long as I can remember. From the days of watching the game at the Mackay showgrounds, while sitting on the greyhound track around the field, to now being able to watch the game at our wonderful Mackay stadium, it continues to bring the community together. We at the Mackay Cutters believe in “Developing Pathways & Growing Communities”, this is what drives us to succeed as a club and underpins our decisions and direction. We do this by ensuring that we create real pathways for players’ rugby league goals as well as ensuring we deliver community-based programs and initiatives that enrich and grow our community while utilising our sporting profile. We believe strongly in Integrity, Humility, Competitive Spirit, Pride in our Club and Strength in Community. We strive to deliver these qualities while representing Mackay through the game we love, Rugby League. We’re a part of the community and the community is a part of us. Version 1 October 2020 7 WOMEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE |Game on in 2021| The inaugural year of the Mackay Cutters Women’s U19’s is the second phase of our commitment to nurture and create opportunities for the region’s talent. As a progression from our junior girls academies, we began with our inaugural Women’s Academy (U18’s & Open) in 2020. We do what we say we’re going to do, and now our ladies will have their own Mackay Cutters team in 2021! The Cutters Women’s Academy and U19’s squad provides a structured pathway to support the coaching and development of talented young women into elite rugby league and is a strategic step toward their progression into the QRLW’s Northern Stars team run by the NQ Cowboys. Our Women’s program delivers a best practice coaching and development program led by experienced coaching staff, this enables players to reach their full potential while staying within the Mackay region surrounded by the support of their family and friends. Talent will be identified and invited to participate over an eight week period in a four round North Queensland U19 Women’s competition. Games will alternate with our new Cyril Connell Cup U16’s competition. Our Women’s academy will comprise of six academy sessions prior to the commencement of the local league competition. Participants will be identified via: • Grassroots junior and senior club competitions • Schoolgirl competitions • Representative pathways • The Queensland School Sport Rugby League State Championships • Rugby league carnivals • School and club recommendations Version 1 October 2020 8 As part of our pathways program, 2021 will see the return of our Cyril Connell Cup U16’s Squad allowing us to connect with our younger players earlier on in their ruby league journey. The CCC U16’s squad provides a structured pathway to support the coaching and development of talented young men into elite rugby league and is a strategic step toward their progression into the Mackay Cutters Intrust Super Cup squad and ultimately the NRL. Talent will be identified and invited to participate over an eight week period in a four round North Queensland Cyril Connell Cup U16’s competition. Games will alternate with our new Mackay Cutters Women’s U19’s competition. Version 1 October 2020 9 OUR VISION FOR RECONCILIATION The Mackay Cutters have had a proud association with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since the club’s inception in 2008. The Mackay Cutters have undertaken this Reconciliation Action Plan to ensure we continue to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities whilst making a positive contribution to closing health and educational gaps between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our vision for reconciliation is to strengthen connections and relationships with the community, build and increase respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their culture, to continue to acknowledge our proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and to demonstrate our commitment to reconciliation to a wider audience with the overarching aim of closing health and educational gaps for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is further to provide an environment which is free from discrimination and promotes respectful and positive behaviours.     Padua Old Boys’ Newsletter ISSUE Spring/Summer 2014 “Where there is love and wisdom there is neither fear nor ignorance” St Francis of Assisi THINGS FRANCISCAN Dear Friends Never before has the concept of leadership been more important than it is to- day. We have seen leadership exercised in its different modes, by Pope Francis, and our politicians like Tony Abbott, Bill Shorten and Clive Palmer. The study of leadership has been a focus for our Year 11 students this year. The boys have been exposed to hierarchical, collaborative, consultative, and servant leadership models, as the boys prepared to take on leader- ship roles as 2015 Seniors. Mr. Ben Lowrie, Vice Rector (Pastoral Care) devised a program and a booklet the boys were to complete if they wanted to be Senior Leaders for next year. The applicants spoke to all the staff, and on Year 11 camp to their friends, about the qualities they had that would fit them for leadership responsibilities in a Franciscan school. Mr Out addressed the boys on the Year 11 Camp and pre- pared them for nominating among themselves those they thought would make suitable leaders. Finally, Mr Out choose the following boys as leaders in 2015: College Captain - Tom Fall. Vice-Captain - Jack Peoples House Leaders - Finbar Delbridge, Harrison Pankhurst, Oscar Baker, Michael Hinds, Matthew Hurley, Ryan Pitts, Ethan Figueiredo, Jacob Smith, Rhys Kelly, Zachary O'Donnell, Patrick Benstead, Michael O'Shea The other leaders caring for other aspects of College life are (Committees) - Jack Dickson, Zachary Hughes, Karl Garufi and Kyle Britto. Four of the boys had their fathers attend Padua! As 'Franciscans’ we all celebrate in a special way the birth of Jesus, as we recall Saint Francis building the first crib at Greccio.

As a 100% community owned club we take our responsibilities to the communities of North Queensland most seriously. With some 13.5% of our player group identifying as Indigenous Australians we take a very deliberate and proud interest in the impact we have on Indigenous communities and Indigenous young people across North Queensland and more broadly. As a national sporting organisation, the North Queensland Cowboys have a number of significant community programs that aim to deliver tangible positive social outcomes across our vast region. We define ourselves and are seen in the community as not only being an NRL team, but also as having an obligation to contribute back to the community of which are a part - our ownership structure dictates that affecting positive social change and delivering real and measurable outcomes is an accountable part of our business model; our business tag line is “In league with our community”. Following completion of a recent survey, our supporters agree that this motto is a good fit with our Club.
