Microsoft, in a blog post, said that Windows 11 will be available as a free upgrade for Windows 10 users. Windows 11 download: Microsoft hosted a special event on Thursday in which the company announced the next-generation of Windows, that is, Windows 11. Now, the most awaited announcement was about who will get to download Windows 11 for free. That has been answered by the company itself. Windows 11 features a new design that is more flexible and can be tailored as per users’ needs and requirements. Apart from a fresh design, Windows 11 also gets features such as Teams integration, access to Xbox Game pass, a redesigned Microsoft Store and access to Android apps among other things. As far as availability is concerned, Windows 11 will be coming to personal computers and desktops around the world in autumn this year. Importantly, Microsoft, in a blog post, said that Windows 11 will be available as a free upgrade for Windows 10 users. “Windows 11 will launch later this year, and it will be available for testing to Windows Insiders next week. The new operating system will be available as a free upgrade for Windows 10 users,” Microsoft wrote in a blog post. Microsoft also said that it will roll out an early build of Windows 11 to the Windows Insider Program next week and the free upgrade will begin to roll out to eligible Windows 10 personal computers and desktops this holiday and continuing into 2022. Microsoft said that Windows users can download Microsoft’s PC Health Check app on their personal computers and desktops to know if their devices are eligible for the Windows 11 update. Microsoft also said that it is working with its retail partners to ensure that Windows 10 PCs are ready to be upgraded to Windows 11. It is worth mentioning that this announcement is unlike what the reports prior to the launch of Windows 11 suggested. To give you a quick overview, reports earlier suggested that Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 users will be able to upgrade their PCs to Windows 11 for free, while Windows 8 users will have to first upgrade their personal computers to Windows 8.1 to be eligible for a free Windows 11 update. But the latest announcement says otherwise. This also means that Windows 8.1 users will have to update their personal computers to Windows 10, which is available for free, to be eligible for a free Windows 11 update. You can upgrade to Windows 11 for free from Windows 7, but it’ll be a bit of a pain. Microsoft is ramping up the different ways for users to update their old machines to Windows 11 , even before we’ve seen an official release date. There’s been plenty of discussion about what the latest update to Windows is bringing, such as new icons, a new start menu, widgets and lots more. However, as we approach the latter half of 2021, questions are growing about how users will be able to update their machine to Windows 11. Previously, those who were on Windows 7 or 8 were eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 10 for a certain period of time. But with Windows 11 moving to a yearly update cycle, users are unsure if this free upgrade method will see a return. However, a support document from Lenovo seems to have somewhat cleared some confusion about this. From what Lenovo has explained , you can update from Windows 7 and 8 to Windows 11 free of charge, but only with a clean install or a reinstall on your PC. However, if you store everything on a single storage device, it may be a long weekend ahead of installing Windows 11, and restoring your data. One other thing to note is Lenovo stating that while it will be a free upgrade, it may only last a year. “The free upgrade offer does not have a specific end date for eligible systems. However, Microsoft reserves the right to eventually end support for the free offer. This end date will be no sooner than one year from general availability.” With the Insider build being tested by many users, it’s only a matter of time before Microsoft details the release schedule for Windows 11 and what the upgrade eligibility will be. However, with Lenovo seemingly jumping the gun on this, it may alleviate some users’ worries if their PC is eligible, as long as they meet the minimum requirements. It will appear as a generic blue screen after your computer has been powered up, and it states that after April 10, 2018 Microsoft will no longer support your version of Windows 10 until the critical security update has been performed. Please note if your UAN computer has not been recently connected to the internet, you would not have received this message. UAN has confirmed that the warning message is a genuine message from Microsoft, and UAN strongly encourages all clients to perform this critical security update as soon as possible. Please note: ‐ This update is a Microsoft requirement and UAN cannot stop or delay its roll out.
