Windows 11 is already in beta testing, and users can download and test the upcoming version of Windows right away. Here are the steps to follow to install Windows 11 on your desktop or laptop computer. Microsoft Windows 11 is set to be the company’s biggest upgrade to its popular Windows operating system since it released Windows 10 in 2015. Announced in June, the company quickly began pushing out early developer previews to users as part of the Windows Insider Program. Over the weekend, Microsoft announced that it was rolling out Windows 11 on the Beta channel to Insiders, which means users can now download and try out the latest version of Windows on their computers. If you have been holding out on installing the early builds of Windows 11 on your computer because of stability concerns, the Windows 11 Beta builds should be more stable and fun to use for everyone. However, do note that Microsoft has excluded certain features such as the new Teams integration on the latest Windows Beta build – they will likely be added back to the OS after the company sorts out any lingering issues on the Dev channel. However, the company had previously revealed that older computers that did not match certain hardware requirements would not be able to upgrade. This also applies to the Beta testing version of Windows 11. While users probably won’t see a stable “release ready” version of Windows 11 for the next couple of months, they can download the latest version of Windows 11 in beta form today, as long as they have a valid Windows licence. How to check if your PC is compatible with Windows 11. Step 1) Download the latest version of WhyNotWin11, which is an automated script to detect if your Windows PC has the correct CPU, enough RAM and disk storage and other security components for Windows 11. Step 2) Run the script and wait for the results to load. The green squares should indicate a component that is compatible with Windows 11, an orange square with a question mark is an unknown value, while a red square (or more) means the PC will likely not run the new version. How to download Windows 11 Beta version on your PC. Step 1) Press Win + I keys, to visit Settings. Now tap on Update & Security > Windows Insider Program. Step 2) Click the Get Started button and choose an account to get started, where you will select your Microsoft account. Step 3) You will have a choice of 3 options -- Dev, Beta and Release Preview. Select the Beta channel. Step 4) Accept the privacy terms and reboot your PC to set up your device. Now go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and tap the Check for updates button to begin downloading Windows 11 beta on your computer. Here are a few of the standout new features in Windows 11: A new, more Mac-like interface. Windows 11 features a clean design with rounded corners, pastel shades and a centered Start menu and Taskbar. Integrated Android apps. Android apps will be coming to Windows 11 and installable from within the new Microsoft Store via the Amazon Appstore. Windows 11 will let you set up virtual desktops in a way that's more similar to MacOS, toggling between multiple desktops for personal, work, school or gaming use. You can also change your wallpaper on each virtual desktop. Easier transition from monitor to laptop, and better multitasking. The new OS includes features called Snap Groups and Snap Layouts -- collections of the apps you're using at once that sit in the Taskbar, and can come up or be minimized at the same time for easier task switching. They also let you plug and unplug from a monitor more easily without losing where your open windows are located. Microsoft Teams will get integrated directly into the Windows 11 Taskbar, which is now centered in the display. When will you be able to download Windows 11? Windows 11 is now available as an Insider Preview build download for those in the Windows Insider Program, and will be available as a public beta in July (here's how to download the Windows 11 beta ). It will begin rolling out to all compatible PCs and new PCs around the 2021 holiday season, according to Microsoft, and will continue rolling out into 2022. However, several hints suggest that Windows 11 could arrive as early as October . Will your computer be compatible with Windows 11? To see if your current Windows 10 PC is eligible for the free upgrade to Windows 11, go to Microsoft's website for a list of requirements. Originally, Microsoft was directing people to download the PC Health Check app to check if their machines were compatible. However, many users reported that it did not give adequate detail as to why a device was not compatible. On June 28, a Microsoft blog post said the company was "temporarily removing the app" to address this issue, and that the tool would return before the fall Windows 11 release. In the meantime, you can use another open-source app called WhyNotWin11 to see if your device is compatible. Plus, here's how to check some hardware compatibility with Windows 11 without either tool. If you buy a new PC between now and the general release , that computer will also be eligible for the free upgrade. New PCs will be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 11. How will you download Windows 11 once it's generally available? Once Windows 11 becomes generally available, you'll download it the same way you would any new version of Windows. Most users will go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for Updates . If available, you'll see Feature update to Windows 11 .

During the previews I had problems, my PC wouldn't boot at one stage and I reset the system which wiped all my drivers and Acer software. Now I am stuck with Windows 10 Home Insider Preview build th2_release 10532 core. I wish to leave the insider program and continue with the release version of Windows 10. Settings>Windows Update>Advanced Options says "We need to restart your PC before you can start getting Insider Builds" but I have repeatedly restarted my PC (both from the Power menu and clicking the "Restart now" button, and this never changes. Get Insider Builds -- Error 0x80070005. Build 10547 is installed on my Surface Pro 2. However, the ADVANCED OPTIONS of UPDATE tells me the error message: "Your Microsoft Account requires attention to get Insider builds." However, when I click on Fix Me, I get "Sorry, something went wrong" and it has the error code 0x80070005. How do I fix my Account? Subscribe Subscribe to RSS feed. Report abuse.
