MIXMAG LAUNCHES ‘GREATEST DJ OF ALL TIME’ POLL www.greatest.dj Mixmag, the world’s biggest clubbing and dance , is asking dance music fans around the world to vote in the only DJ poll that matters: The Greatest DJ Of All Time. Launching on 16 September, everyone who loves dance music and DJ culture is given the chance to make their vote count by visiting www.greatest.dj. The site utilises the latest connect technology and features videos, information, discussion and much more. This is the dance music equivalent of the BBC’s ‘Great Britons’ series. A shortlist of 35 DJs has been put together, and each nominee has been chosen by another huge name from the world of dance music. The nominees range from across the spectrum and history of dance music and include the likes of: •Contemporary superstars such as Fatboy Slim, Tiesto, , 2ManyDJs, , , Sven Vath, , and Andy C. •Founding figures of like Francis Grasso and David Mancuso •Original house DJ Larry Levan (championed by Arthur Baker) •The godfathers of hip hop such as Grandmaster Flash and Kool Herc • and Sasha, the first of the superstar DJs •NY warehouse legend Francois K (championed by pioneer Mala) •The first person to set up two turntables in a club, Jimmy Saville! As well as contributions from some of the biggest stars in dance music, respected DJ historians Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton of www.djhistory.com have also weighed in with their nominations and expertise. Each of the ‘champions’ has recorded an exclusive video for Mixmag, urging viewers to vote for their choice of greatest ever DJ. Mixmag’s sister website, Don’t Stay In (www.dontstayin.com), the world’s biggest clubbing website, will focus on each nominated DJ over the next few months with free mixes to download, site takeovers, and further video footage. Voting will be open until midnight on 15th December, with the final result announced in the February 2011 issue of Mixmag.
