History has been really hard with them. They had the most successful in medium age until XVIII century. Monasteries controlled the vine production and made the wine with the French methods learnt from the Cistercian and Benedictine monks that establishes here. An important colony of Jews people rose the wine market to the top. Ribeiro was exported to England shipped in Vigo port where It arrived along Miño river that cross Ribadavia. Ribeiro was the wine that Christopher Columbus shipped to discovered “America” in his trips along Atlantic sea. The political and religious problems between the Queen Elisabeth I and Philip II forced the commerce to stop. In that moment, English traders started to import to your country from Douro Region in the North of Portugal, that is the next river after Miño. After a dark period where viticulture problems (illness like odium or mildew, phylloxera…) and problems in the market, forced the people here to grow other varieties much more resistant and more productive. Some cellars began in the 80s or 90s to plant again the autochthon grape varieties that arise the Ribeiro wines to the top in the past. Local grapes were not totally lost because of the particular wines. http://www.ribeirosdoavia.com/historia/en HISTORY Cristobal Colón carried Ribeiro Monastry of San Clodio, “guilty” of wine to América in his first trip winegrowing developing in Ribeiro SOILS + LOCAL GRAPES + CLIMA + GEOGRAFICAL RELEAF = UNIQUE TERROIR UNIQUE TERROIR + HISTORY = COTO DE GOMARIZ Coto de Gomariz belongs to Ricardo Carreiro. The team is completed by Xosé Lois Sebio as winemaker. The generational relief assumed the creation of a young team that follows Rudolf Steinner theory respecting the “terroir” and following Maria Thun Calendar in the cellar and viticulture works. There only used natural products in their treatments of viticulture. The herbal compounds are made by them from the local forests. No any synthesis products or insecticides are used. They respect the soils keeping grass over to preserve the indigenous microbiology and morphology of soils. Coto de Gomariz owns 28 hectares planted into local varieties. 8 hectares are red vines. Fish catches, standardized by the number of fyke nets and by the fishing effort, were analysed and related to river flow, water temperature and precipitation. In total, 21 fish species were identified including six non-indigenous species (NIS) which represented 15% of the total captures (yet 43% of the bio- mass). Regarding ecological guilds, 82% were freshwater species (61% of the biomass) which included all NIS, whereas 13% of the catches were catadromous species (31% biomass) corresponding to eels. Only 4% were estuarine species (1% biomass) and together marine estuarine opportunists and anadromous species ac- complished 1% (2 and 6% biomass, respectively).

Complementary Effect of Blending on the Volatile Composition of Albariño and Loureira White Wines (Vitis vinifera L.) from NW Spain M. Vilanova1*, L. Freire2 (1) Misión Biológica de Galicia (CSIC), El Palacio-Salcedo, 36143, Pontevedra, Spain (2) Santiago Ruiz Winery, 36760 O Rosal, Pontevedra, Spain Submitted for publication: October 2016 Accepted for publication: January 2017 Key words: Blended wine, volatiles aroma; Albariño, Loureira, Caiño blanco, Godello Albariño and Loureira are highly valuable white grape cultivars from the Northwest Iberian Peninsula (Northwest Spain and Northern Portugal). The purpose of this study was to determine how blending affects the volatile composition of Albariño and Loureira white wines. Four Vitis vinifera white wines (Albariño, Loureira, Caiño Blanco and Godello) were blended at different proportions, resulting in four wines – two two-wine blends (83:17 Albariño-Caiño Blanco and 50:50 Loureira-Caiño Blanco) and two three- wine blends (48:32:20 Albariño-Loureira-Caiño Blanco and 35:35:30 Loureira-Caiño Blanco-Godello). The blended wines were compared with Albariño and Loureira single wines. The volatile composition of the wines was evaluated using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to identify changes in the aroma compounds of the blends with respect to the Albariño and Loureira varietal wines. The Loureira and Albariño single wines had the highest concentrations of volatiles. However, the blended wines, especially those with Loureira, showed increases in terpenes and C13-norisoprenoids. Discriminant analysis showed that C6-alcohols and phenol volatiles were the variables that contributed the most to the differences between Albariño and the blended wines, whereas terpenes and C13-norisoprenoids made the greatest contributions to the differences between Loureira and the blended wines.
