Anyone who has become the owner of an electric scooter, after being confined to a wheelchair, will know how liberating it is. In a wheelchair you either go where someone pushes you, or, if you do have enough strength to propel the chair, you will get only as far as your strength dictates, which for many of us is not far.

With an electrically powered scooter you can travel for miles, the distance being governed only by the size and state of the batteries, the weight you ask your scooter to carry, and the terrain you hope to cover. I can give no hard and fast rules to deal with the above points. I can state however that all the ‘rides’ in this booklet were researched by me on a medium size Victory 4 scooter, with two 12volt 31Ah batteries, and a weight of no more than 11 stone (70Kg).

The range of most of these scooters is about 20 miles, but it will depend on those variable factors mentioned above. The chosen routes are well within the capacity of most scooters, except perhaps the ‘small shopper’ type. If you try a hilly route, make sure that the batteries are fully charged.
