Joining Richard Landry in the second half of his concert is guest percussionist David Van Tieghem. Born and raised in Cecilia, Louisiana, where he still resides, Richard Landry's roots are in Cajun music, rural southern rhythm and blues, and jazz. His concerts are distinguished by virtuosic improvisations on the uncharted range of the tenor saxophone, processed through a quadrophonic delay system which allows him to form his own quintet. He has also performed and recorded with Steve Reich and Musicians, the Philip Glass Ensemble, Talking Heads, and Laurie Anderson, while presenting more than two hundred solo concerts throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Richard Landry's concert for tenor saxophone will be held in BAM's Carey Playhouse on Saturday, November 10, at 8:00pm. Tickets are $15.00 . There is a degree of mystery and uncertainty about just what goes on behind the studio door. Some producers are seen as Svengali- like figures manipulating artists into mass consumer product. Producers are sometimes seen as mere technicians whose job is simply to set up a few microphones and press the record button. Close examination of the recording process will show how far this is from a complete picture. Artists are special—they come with an inspiration, and a talent, but also with a variety of complications, and in many ways a recording studio can seem the least likely place for creative expression and for an affective performance to happen. The task of the record producer is to engage with these artists and their songs and turn these potentials into form through the technology of the recording studio. The purpose of the exercise is to disseminate this fixed form to an imagined audience—generally in the hope that this audience will prove to be real.

Main towns: Nassau (capital, pop. 241,200 in 2010) on New Providence; Freeport (44,300), West End (13,100) and High Rock (3,900) on Grand Bahama; Cooper’s Town (9,300) and Marsh Harbour (5,800) on Abaco; Freetown (4,300) and Spanish Wells (1,800) on Eleuthera; Andros Town (2,300) on Andros; and Clarence Town (1,700) on Long Island. Transport: The total road system extends to some 2,700 km, about 60 per cent of it paved. And deserving or not, guitarists have a reputation for having less-than-perfect time. But it’s not as if perfect meter makes you a perfect rhythm player. There’s something else. Something elusive. A swing, a feel, or a groove—you know it when you hear it, or feel it.
