FC Steaua Bucuresti V Real Betis Balompié PRESS KIT
FC Steaua Bucuresti v Real Betis Balompié PRESS KIT Lia Manoliu, Bucharest Thursday, 9 March 2006 - 19:00 local time Round of 16 - Matchday 10 FC Steaua Bucuresti were undone by Spanish opposition at this stage of the UEFA Cup last season, but will be looking to avoid the same fate when they line up against Real Betis Balompié in the last 16. Almost 12 months ago to the day the Romanian side saw their hopes ended by Villarreal CF at El Madrigal as Argentinian playmaker Juan Román Riquelme led the home team to a 2-0 victory. •A 3-1 first-leg victory proved enough to see Steaua negotiate their way through their first knockout round tie against SC Heerenveen. Nicolae Dica, Dorin Goian and Sorin Paraschiv were all on target as Cosmin Olaroiu's team recovered from conceding an early Arnold Bruggink goal in the Netherlands and although Heerenveen pulled one goal back in Bucharest, it was Steaua that progressed. It was the continuation of some fine form in this competition by the former European champions, who breezed through the group stage after an unbeaten campaign that brought eight points, including comprehensive victories against RC Lens and Halmstads BK - both at home. •Betis were also indebted to a two-goal first-leg lead as they edged past AZ Alkmaar to secure a place in the last 32. Brazilian pair Diego Tardelli and Robert were both on target as late goals earned the side a significant advantage in Seville, which the Dutch team clawed back at the Alkmaarderhout to take the tie to extra time. -

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE - 2020/21 SEASON MATCH PRESS KITS (First leg: 2-0) Estadio de la Cerámica - Villarreal Thursday 25 February 2021 Villarreal CF 18.55CET (18.55 local time) FC Salzburg Round of 32, Second leg Last updated 22/02/2021 13:54CET Match background 2 Legend 4 1 Villarreal CF - FC Salzburg Thursday 25 February 2021 - 18.55CET (18.55 local time) Match press kit Estadio de la Cerámica, Villarreal Match background In this round of 32 contest between the two clubs who have played the most games in the UEFA Europa League it is Villarreal who hold a clear advantage as they play host to Salzburg with a 2-0 lead from the first leg in Austria. • Villarreal cruised to first place in UEFA Europa League Group I ahead of Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Sivasspor and Qarabağ, while the Austrian club finished third in their UEFA Champions League group, behind holders Bayern München and an Atlético de Madrid side that clinched qualification at the expense of Jesse Marsch's team with a 2-0 win at the Stadion Salzburg on Matchday 6. Previous meetings • A goal in each half, from Paco Alcácer – who had earlier missed a penalty – and his replacement Fer Niño, gave Villarreal victory at the Stadion Salzburg to extend their unbeaten run outside Spain in this competition to nine matches. • Before the first leg honours had been even between the clubs, with each having won two of the four matches and scored five goals. • Salzburg got the better of Villarreal in the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League group stage, beating them home (2-0) and away (1-0) as they topped the section with maximum points, but it was the Spanish side who prevailed when the teams re-encountered each other in the 2014/15 round of 32, winning 2-1 at home and 3-1 away. -

The Spanish side, making their first appearance in Europe for three years, are the top scorers in this season’s competition with 18 goals. • The Austrian club are competing in the knockout phase of this competition for the fifth time, having conceded just one goal and remained unbeaten in topping Group I. It was the fourth time they had won a UEFA Europa League group – a competition record. Previous meetings • An eventful first leg at the Anoeta ended with honours even courtesy of Japanese striker Takumi Minamino's added- time strike for Salzburg. The visitors had opened the scoring on 27 minutes through Mikel Oyarzabal's own goal, but second-half strikes from Álvaro Odriozola and Adnan Januzaj turned the match in favour of Real Sociedad – in their first fixture against Austrian opposition –until Minamino's late intervention. • Salzburg's record in 13 games against Spanish teams is W3 D2 L8. They have lost their last two home games against Liga sides, most recently in the 2014/15 round of 32 – the last time they reached this stage – when Villarreal defeated them 3-1 in Austria to complete a 5-2 aggregate triumph. -

SWEDEN - BELARUS MATCH PRESS KIT Malmö New Stadium, Malmo Tuesday 16 June 2009 - 18.15CET (18.15 local time) Group A - Matchday 2 Contents 1 - Match background 6 - Group statistics 2 - Team facts 7 - Competition facts 3 - Squad list 8 - Competition information 4 - Head coach 9 - Tournament schedule 5 - Match officials 10 - Legend Match background Hosts Sweden will end their long wait for competitive action when they kick off their UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals campaign against outsiders Belarus in Malmo. • The team co-coached by Tommy Söderberg and Jörgen Lennartsson qualified automatically for the tournament and so have not played a competitive match since the crushing 5-0 home play-off defeat by Serbia in October 2006 that ended their hopes of qualifying for the previous final edition. • They will hope to hit the ground running in Group A, a section that also includes Italy and Serbia, yet history suggests they should not underestimate a Belarus side who caused a major upset in their opening game on their previous finals appearance. • That was in 2004 when Belarus beat eventual champions Italy 2-1 through an Aleksandr Hleb winning goal, albeit before subsequently missing out on a semi-final place. The eastern Europeans booked a return to the finals by bettering Turkey 2-1 on aggregate in a qualifying play-off. • The Belarus coach Yuri Kurnenin is suspended for the Sweden match having been sent off in the second leg of that play-off victory in Borisov. • Sweden, like Belarus, had their first experience of an eight-team final U21 tournament in 2004 and they did well, reaching the semi-finals. -

The past two years have therefore been a rather intense period, as UEFA has had to implement the new structures while at the same time addressing current football issues and launching new projects. Both these tasks were far-reaching and voluminous. Among other challenges, UEFA had to help find a solution to the issue of international transfers, cope with the complex demands of organising competitions, define the format for the club competitions and defend the centralised marketing of the rights to the UEFA Champions League. In terms of projects, we launched the club licensing system, created our subsidiary UEFA New Media, set up a new structure for marketing opera- tions and moved forward with our study aimed at allowing the use of artificial-turf surfaces in UEFA competitions. Details of all these processes and projects are to be found The UEFA in my two-yearly report to the Congress. -

With his side trailing to a goal from Hakan Şükür, Larsson hit an 87th-minute equaliser, and Andreas Andersson grabbed a winner in added time. • Hakan Şükür has played in five games against Sweden, scoring twice. Four of those five games saw him playing opposite Larsson - who was an unused substitute in the other match. • In the four previous games in which the two legendary strikers have met, honours are even, with Sweden and Turkey winning a game each and the other two matches ending in draws. • Both strikers are now 36. Hakan Şükür has scored 51 goals in 112 appearances for Turkey - making him the leading active international scorer in European football - while Larsson scored 36 goals in 93 games for Sweden. • Galatasaray lost their opening Group H match 2-1 at FC Girondins de Bordeaux while Helsingborg drew 1-1 at home against Panionios GSS - Larsson levelling in the 83rd minute. -

For more detailed factual information, and in-depth competition statistics, please refer to the matchweek press kit, which can be downloaded at: http://www.uefa.com/uefa/mediaservices/presskits/index.html Match background The stakes are high for FC København and Rosenborg BK as they meet in Group G on Matchday 4, with the Norwegian side in particular knowing that they are in the last-chance saloon when it comes to their hopes of reaching the Round of 32. • København were not in action on 27 November, but with just one point from their previous two games are level with Rosenborg at the foot of the section. However, they at least know that they will have some chance of qualifying on Matchday 5 – however slender – regardless of the result of the game against their Norwegian visitors. • Rosenborg have no such luxury, having matched their worst ever home defeat in European competition in losing 4-0 to Valencia CF last Thursday. This is their final Group G game, and anything other than a win would spell the end of their continental campaign for the season. • This will be København and Rosenborg's first meeting in European club competition. -
