It almost takes an adult to tolerate the straightforward instructions for the Ad techniques of building sand castles as an ingredient of a book about the 4-6 development and structure of the medieval castle. The terminology (and the hand-lettered text) make the book too difficult for young children; the sand castle pages make it too juvenile for the older child. There is information about castles, but not as much as there is in Boardman's book on the subject. The writing has some humor, and the drawings are very attractive, but the interspersion of pages about what is basically imaginative play is out of proportion.     Noah and the story of flood in the Bible and the Qur’an - Farjana Sultana Chowdhury Master’s Thesis in Nordic Master in Religious Roots of Europe Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies, and Religion University of Bergen Submission date: 15th December 2016 Abstract Noah's flood is one of the most ancient religious stories of the world. The story is told and retold within the Judeo-Christian and Islamic traditions to depict some of the core notions of these beliefs. Like many other stories in the Bible and the Qur’an, the flood story has similarities as well as significant differences. Comparative studies of the flood stories on thematic differences derived from narratives are limited in number. This thesis is constructed on the comparisons of the stories narrated in the original texts in the Bible and the Qur’an. At first, I have summarised the narratives, which is followed by an evaluation of the contexts of the flood stories depending on the narratives. Through a critical analysis, this thesis inquiries the image of the deity in the Bible and the Qur’an depicted in these two flood stories. In addition, this thesis highlights the way the stories have been interpreted and used by theologians in these two different religious dominions. The research concludes that in the Bible, Noah's flood is a story to warn the corrupt and inspire the righteous. On the other hand, Noah's flood in the Qur’an cautions the unfaithful to God and the gruesome consequence of unfaithfulness. In biblical narratives, God decided to bring the flood Himself and also became sorry afterwards for His action.

    The Eskimo History Story as told by Michael Francis Kazingnuk Transcribed by Kawerak’s Social Science Program Introduction Dear Reader, The Kawerak Social Science Program is happy to share this unique piece of history with you. This document is a typed rendering of a handwritten document by Michael Francis Kazingnuk which he titled: The Eskimo History Story. Mr. Kazingnuk was born on Big Diomede Island and in 1937 began the process of writing down the history of his people, from his perspective. His handwritten document is over 500 pages long and includes personal reflections and experiences, Iñupiaq vocabulary, traditional stories, song lyrics and other invaluable information. The original document is housed at the Alaska State Library (asl_MS_197 folders 1-5). The original document can be found on the Alaska State Library’s website at http://www.library.state.ak.us/hist/hist_docs/docs/asl_MS_197.pdf. We have included, in these introductory pages, a few images of the handwritten pages so that the reader can get a sense of that original document. Kawerak’s Social Science Program decided to undertake the large task of typing up the entire document so that it would be more easily accessible to the Native Village of Diomede, other residents of the Bering Strait region, researchers, and other interested parties. Lucinda Wieler, former Social Science Program Research Specialist, transcribed and proofed the majority of this document over the course of many months.
