The information contained in this pamphlet is correct at the time of printing. Please refer to the respective Academic Departments for the latest updates and amendments. HELP University and HELP Academy Scholarships and Bursaries 2018 Since its establishment in 1986, HELP has awarded many scholarships to encourage Malaysians and international students who demonstrate academic excellence and display leadership qualities to pursue their tertiary education at the university. Many of these recipients have completed their courses and have embarked on successful careers.

HELP welcomes both new and continuing students of merit to apply for scholarships and study awards.

Full Scholarships, Partial Scholarships and Study Awards If you meet the minimum criteria, you are required to do the following: 1. Complete a HELP Scholarship Application Form and attach certified copies of your academic results. 2. New students are required to submit a HELP Application Form to apply for the chosen programme and pay the Student Application Fee before submitting the scholarship application form. 3. New students will submit the respective forms and attachments to the Scholarship Officer in the Registry before the specified deadline. Late applications will not be considered for selection. 4. For consideration by the Scholarship Committee in May and October of each year, scholarship applicants must be registered students of HELP University or HELP Academy. Your form will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee for consideration when the Committee meets, which is in May and October. 5. The decisions of the Scholarship Committee will be announced by the third week of May and October and the decisions are not subject to appeal.

Important note: 1. As scholarship awards are limited and competitive, only candidates who meet the minimum criteria specified in this brochure are eligible to apply. 2. Meeting the minimum criteria does not automatically guarantee the applicant a scholarship. 3. All scholarship applicants will be evaluated and short-listed by the Scholarship Committee of HELP University/ HELP Academy. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to revise the criteria from time to time without prior notice. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final. 4. Students are only entitled to one scholarship at any one time. (Scholarships also cover prizes, study awards, bursaries and fee waivers.) 5. Applicants may be awarded a sum that is less than that stipulated in the brochure. 6. All scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis. 7. Scholarships may differ from intake to intake. Students are advised to submit their application before the stipulated deadline. 8. HELP-University of Queensland Scholarships (External Scholarships) Students studying for the Bachelor of Business programme in the Department of Business Studies are invited to apply for final year study at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, University of Queensland in February / July 2018.

Value of Scholarship The scholarship value is at the discretion of HELP University. The scholarship will be disbursed via a waiver of tuition fees charged by the University of Queensland (UQ) as and when these fees become due.

Selection Criteria The selection of scholars will be based on the following criteria: 1. Students must have a minimum academic achievement of CGPA 3.6 over 16 or 17 specified subjects in the Bachelor of Business (Hons) programme. * Students must have an unconditional offer for the final year of the Bachelor of Commerce, or Bachelor of Business Management at UQ. At the point of application for the Scholarship, students must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Business (Hons) programme at HELP University. 2. The financial background of the applicant may be taken into consideration. 3. Applicants must possess motivation in setting goals and perseverance in pursuing their set goals. 4. Applicants must possess leadership and motivation as demonstrated by contribution to the community and to HELP University. 5. The successful applicant must be willing and committed to participate in activities that foster cross-cultural awareness within UQ and the local community.

Applicants must be able to substantiate these criteria in the Scholarship Application Form.

Applicants must ensure that they have sufficient funds to cover their travel, accommodation and living expenses.

Successful applicants will undertake the final year of their UQ degree for the 2018/2019 academic year at the St Lucia campus.

HELP IT Industry Bursaries 2018 (HITIB2018) Together with industry partners, HELP University is pleased to offer bursaries for HELP Information Technology (IT) programmes. These include the Bachelor of IT (Hons), BIT (Hons) Business information Management and BIT (Hons) Mobile Computing.

These programmes have been developed in consultation with the IT industry to ensure that graduates are prepared for the requirements of practice. We offer a mix of academic and workplace learning environments. When they graduate, students embark on exciting careers with our industry partners. The Bursaries Scheme is part of a joint effort to develop a strong core of Malaysian IT professionals with the talent, skill sets and ability to contribute meaningfully to the IT sector. Our students have opportunities to acquire industry knowledge even while studying in the university.

The scholarship is summarized in the table below:

DEGREE Benefits • Up to 50% Tuition Fee Waiver for Year 1 academic subjects only.

Entry Requirements Any one of the following • STPM: CGPA 2.50 • 2 A-Level passes with 1 A • 5 Bs in UEC with 1 A • Requiring financial assistance; And 3 SPM / O-Level credits, including a pass in BM and Sejarah, and a credit in Mathematics.

Intakes January, April, May, August, October

Retention in the scholarship • The student must maintain full-time enrolment and complete the programme • The student must maintain >80% attendance in lectures and tutorials for each subject • The student must maintain a CGPA of at least 2.00 each semester.

School Achievers Scholarship Awards (SASA) These are targeted at student leaders with outstanding leadership qualities and sound academic performance. These scholarships are awarded to encourage holistic, all-round achievers amongst students in line with HELP’s education philosophy.

Special Chinese Independent Secondary School Scholarship Available to 5 Chinese Independent High Schools, namely (in KL) Chong Hwa Independent High School, Tsun Jin High School, , Confucian Private Secondary School, (JB) and Foon Yew High School (Kulai) for all HELP undergraduate programmes.

Sports Scholarships for National Sportsmen / Sportswomen Limited scholarships of up to 100% may be available for National Sportsmen/Sportswomen, on a yearly basis subject to approval.

OTHER BURSARIES Packaged-Pathway Bursaries (i) Foundation (HMC) to Degree – 100% Foundation Bursary. (ii) International Foundation to University of London Programme – 100% Foundation Bursary. (iii) Pre-Law Package Fee – package fee for 2 A Level subjects + Year 1 and Year 2 of UK Law Degree Transfer Programme. (iv) University of Derby – available for Certificate to Degree. (v) HELP-Chinese Independent Secondary School Bursary - 30% for 1st year; 20% for 2nd and 3rd year; minimum CGPA 2.75. (vi) School of Hospitality and Tourism (SHOT) bursary - 30% for entire programme. (vii) STPM Bursary of 20% of tuition fee for 3 years subject to students attaining a CGPA of 2.75. (viii) ADP Competitive Bursary of RM400 per STEM subject for the first year only. Note: This bursary will be awarded based on the actual results of the best five of the following subjects in the SPM examination: Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and General Science. (ix) Alumni Bursary - 15% of tuition fee up to 3 years (x) Sibling Bursary - 15% of tuition fee for the entire programme

Terms and Conditions 1. Students are allowed to switch awards only once. 2. Students will be entitled to only one scholarship or bursary (whichever is higher) and students are not allowed to combine awards. 3. Applicants are required to pay all administration fees, course fees and external fees (if any), pending the decision of the Scholarship Committee. 4. For new students, a minimum payment of the Student Application Fee is required before they are eligible to apply for scholarships. Otherwise, the scholarship application is considered null and void. 5. For students who have applied to join HELP for a chosen programme, he / she is expected to register during the intake waiver date and is required to pay all administration fees, course fees and external fees (if any) by the last day of payment, pending the decision of the Scholarship Committee. Otherwise, the scholarship application is considered null and void. 6. The scholarship/bursary is not applicable for payment of re-sit / re-enrolment fees. For programmes where course fees are charged by the subject (modular programme), the total scholarship amount is divided equally among the total number of subjects and will go towards payment of course fees payable to HELP. 7. For programmes where course fees are charged by the year (linear programme), the total scholarship amount will go towards payment of course fees payable to HELP. 8. HELP reserves the right to revoke any scholarship in case of failure in examinations, unauthorized dropping of courses, withdrawal from a programme before completion and / or non-compliance with HELP Rules and Regulations or with other terms and conditions of the scholarship. Recipients may be required to repay the scholarship amount used upon revocation of the scholarship. 9. Recipients of scholarships who are subsequently found in breach of HELP rules and regulations, academic or otherwise, will have their scholarships revoked and will be required to repay HELP the said sum of money. 10. Recipients of scholarships are required to contribute 3-5 hours per week of their time to assist the Head of Department or his designated staff in administration, peer counselling, extracurricular activities, marketing and promotional activities. 11. With effect from 1 February 2018, the Scholarship Application deadline is as below: a) 2 weeks after commencement of programmes or 2 weeks after the release of actual results. b) This new Scholarship Application deadline shall supersede all other scholarship deadline(s) that have been printed in our HELP Scholarship Awards 2018 booklet or other printed materials, brochures, newspapers, websites, and in any media. The Scholarship Committee will meet in mid-May and mid-October each year to shortlist candidates for the awards. 12. All decisions made by HELP University on matters pertaining to the scholarships will be final. Only shortlisted applicants will be notified. 13. The qualifications required for the scholarship may vary from year to year. Applicants should check with the Scholarship Officer on the requirements before applying. 14. Late and incomplete application forms will not be considered for selection.
