Protecting Postmodern Historicism: Identification, vE aluation, and Prescriptions for Preeminent Sites Abstract Just as architectural history traditionally takes the form of a march of styles, so too do preservationists repeatedly campaign to save seminal works of an architectural manner several decades after its period of prominence. This is currently happening with New Brutalism and given its age and current unpopularity will likely soon befall postmodern historicism. In hopes of preventing the loss of any of the manner’s preeminent works, this study provides professionals with a framework for evaluating the significance of postmodern historicist designs in relation to one another. Through this, the limited resources required for large-scale preservation campaigns can be correctly dedicated to the most emblematic sites. Three case studies demonstrate the application of these criteria and an extended look at recent preservation campaigns provides lessons in how to best proactively preserve unpopular sites. -

/10 Supplément spécial n° 10 / Juillet 2014 La qualité, ou plutôt l’ineptie de la plupart des films français qui se sont succédé depuis le début de l’année serait-elle proportionnelle à la débâcle critique qui ne cesse de prendre de l’ampleur ? Constat un tantinet exagéré mais une certaine tendance au nivellement par le très très bas s’opère pourtant. Ce n’est pas nouveau que la parole critique concernant le cinéma soit si peu affutée sur le service public, notre consœur L’ouvreuse s’était essayée en 2009 à une immersion intensive d’une semaine dans l’enfer du PAF côté émissions de ciné. Depuis, pas grand chose n’a changé, certaines émissions ont disparu mais globalement une véritable réflexion critique se fait toujours aussi rare. Bien sûr, le net propose une alternative réjouissante car parmi les nombreux sites et blogs se contentant de régurgiter ce que les attachés de presse leur adressent, sont apparus des espaces d’expression tenus par des passionnés livrant leurs réflexions avec une certaine verve et acuité, mais généralement ces sites ne sont pas les mieux référencés ou les plus visités. La quasi absence de développement critique accessible au plus grand nombre est en soi l’illustration de l’échec du service public à formaliser des interstices où pourraient s’épanouir débat et/ou questionnements sur des œuvres présentes ou passées. Si possible quelque chose de plus consistant que la navrante émission « Le Cercle » présentée par Beigbeider où Philippe Rouyer a bien du mal à élever le niveau à lui tout seul.. -

Starburns Industries Press Aims to Release B-Squad This Summer
Starburns Industries Press Aims to Release B-Squad this Summer As it heads into its sophomore year of publishing, Starburns Industries Press sets it’s eyes on remastering an independent series, B-Squad, from indie darling author Eben Burgoon and a rotating roster illustrators and artists that change issue to issue. B-Squad shares the ridiculous and dangerous missions of an expendable team of misfit mercenaries ranging from pop-culture riffs to cut from whole cloth oddballs. The bargain-bin commandos tackle leftover assignments of other more respected mercenary groups. SBI Press’ run begins with a remaster of the series debut “Conspiracy in Cambodia”, originally independently published in 2013. Written by Burgoon and illustrated by Lauren Monardo, B-Squad is tasked with protecting a free-range cadre of “mugwai” from a group of radicalized hipsters who poach the furry critters for unknown gain. Series creator, Eben Burgoon, comments “I seriously can’t think of a better home for B-Squad than SBI Press. Bringing this passion project of mine to a creative-focused publisher that has a track record for making undeniably extraordinary work in so many mediums is a pinch-me caliber dream.” Illustrator Michael Calero returns to B-Squad to take over as the series’ Artistic Lead for Starburns Industries Press’ run. Calero previously contributed to B-Squad’s sixth book in 2015 and returns to create all-new covers and contribute to an all-new second mission. Additionally, he’ll also be debuting his own creator-owned comic, Monster Safari, as a back-up story to B-Squad beginning with Mission One. -

Scott Adsit: …careful. And fun. But there’s nothing like performance going on anywhere. My parents didn’t listen to music. They didn’t obsess on anything apart from work and their kids, pretty much. Andrew Clark: You went to Columbia College in Chicago for Film, initially. Was the goal to be a filmmaker at first? SA: Yeah. I went to my dad’s college in Green Castle, Indiana for a semester and realized that I didn’t want to be my dad. Then I went to Columbia, which is like a great art school in downtown Chicago. It wasn’t a great school when I went there. It’s become a great school. It’s become a great, wide school, but the theater department there was always great, and run by really talented people. A great thing there was, you could not be a teacher if you were not already working in the field you’re teaching in. You had to have a job to have that job, which is cool, but also kind of cruel, I think, because it’s a cruel business, and if you lose one job, it’s like, “Oh, you’re done.” AC: Really? Wow. You had some pretty great instructors, but when did you kind of get the comedy bug? How did you sort of fall into that? SA: In junior high. There was an acting class that taught through improv, somehow. There was a teacher who was named Karin Little, who was a beautiful redhead who had been a Playmate. She was a centerfold in Playboy, and she had found herself teaching drama in a junior high.
