It sits in the middle of the map of Navarre, on a plateau 449 m above sea level. Pamplona is located in the middle in a rounded valley, known as the “Basin of Pamplona”, which links the mountainous North with the Ebro valley. It covers 23.55 square km. The climate and landscape of the basin is a transition between those two main Navarrese geographical regions. Its central position at crossroads has served as a commercial link between those very different natural parts of Navarre It is 92 km (57 mi) from the city of San Sebastián, 117 km (73 mi) from Bilbao, 735 km (457 mi) from Paris and 407 km (253 mi) from Madrid. The city is famous worldwide for the running of the bulls during the San Fermín festival, which is held annually from July 6 to 14. This festival was brought to literary renown with the 1926 publication of Ernest Hemingway's novel The Sun Also Rises. The same can be said about its culinary offer and the products which are used change from zone to zone in Navarra, depending whether the traveller is in the Pyrenees, near a river or in the centre of the region, which is characterised by pastureland and green valleys. However, one thing never changes: Navarre boasts generous landscapes and products, a fact which is reflected in the character of its people, regardless of the area. Another common element is its preference for using totally natural ingredients which give an unmistakable flavour to its dishes: the taste of good food, which captivates the traveller to our land. The crops and market garden produce are now grown in special areas similar to those of the old Kingdom, which was very well-known for its good food. Serán aprobados por la Consejería con competencias en materia de industria, previa consulta de aquellas otras Consejerías que tengan competencias en sectores o ramas concretos de la actividad industrial». El Plan Director de Promoción Industrial de Castilla y León 2017-2010, aprobado por Acuerdo 26/2017, de 8 de junio, de la Junta de Castilla y León, contempla la existencia de Programas Territoriales de Fomento, referidos a uno o varios territorios determinados de la Comunidad, cuando concurran especiales necesidades de reindustrialización o se trate de zonas en declive.     Call it home: Mesolithic dwellings in the Ebro Basin (NE Spain) Rafael Domingo, Marta Alcolea, Manuel Bea, Carlos Mazo, Lourdes Montes, Jesús Picazo, José M.ª Rodanés and Pilar Utrilla Research group Primeros pobladores del Valle del Ebro University of Zaragoza, Spain Abstract This paper summarises our knowledge of Mesolithic space management — which concerns the choice of the living place itself and the recognisable dwelling structures — in the Middle Ebro Basin, where more than fifteen accurately dated Mesolithic sites have been found and excavated in the last several decades. In the last forty years, the Ebro Basin has emerged as the most important area for the study of the Mesolithic and Early Neolithic period in the Iberian Peninsula. Dozens of recently excavated sites with hundreds of accurate radiocarbon dates offer a good panorama of the transition from traditional hunting-gathering strategies to the gradual incorporation of Neolithic innovations. Nevertheless, much remains unknown in wide areas across the basin due to poor conservation or mere research defaults, so there is still much work to do. For brevity and research tradition, this paper will be restricted to the Middle Ebro Basin. The vast majority of documented Mesolithic sites throughout the basin occupy the frequent limestone, sandstone or conglomeratic rockshelters that proliferate in the ranges flanking the north and the lower flat areas in the south. There, natural “roofed” refuges are scarce, and prehistoric groups inhabited open-air campsites. Archaeological surveys are difficult to conduct in these flat terrains due to high-scale Holocene erosive processes, which hamper our knowledge of the actual dwelling strategies in Mesolithic times.

    FABIOLA UBANI Born in Pamplona, (Navarra) and Fine Arts degree, Fabiola Ubani has been combining her teaching at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with an intense artistic production along a trajectory of more than twenty years. Interested in the engraving as a form of expression, from the beginning she discovers the possibilities offered by the hybridization of the processes of this traditional technique with those existing in other fields also related with the multiple reproduction of the image. This leads her to incorporate in her work the techniques used in the origins of photography (gum bichromate, cyanotype), the use of the laboratory for the generation of plates from lith film, electrography as an image transfer tool and, as logical consequence of this evolution, the exploration of the digital image as a resource in the attainment of visual textures and, ultimately, language of expression in itself. Bringing together his academic and artistic facets, in 2016 she formulated her doctoral PhD under the title "Graphic art and technology (a private relationship)", in which, following an analysis of her work, she stresses the fluid relationship that has always existed between engraving and photography and delves into the concept of what in the field of visual arts has come to be called "digital matrix".     Fechas relevantes en la historia del Valle de Egüés 1500 a.C. De esta época es datable el hacha pulimentada y de forma trapezoidal encontrada en Elcano. Esto nos permite decir que, al menos desde esta época, estaba habitado el Valle de Egüés por asentamientos de los primitivos vascones. Sus primeros pobladores probablemente se establecieran allí mucho antes, durante la edad de piedra. 75 a.C. El general romano Pompeio establece su campamento en la actual Pamplona profundizando la romanización de los habitantes de la cuenca entre los que se encuentran los pobladores de Egüés. Las relaciones serían amistosas y de mutua colaboración y enriquecimiento. Se han encontrado algunos restos cerámicos y metálicos en Sarriguren. 1032. Sancho III “el mayor” restituye a la catedral de Pamplona todos sus bienes entre los que hay algunos del Valle de Egüés. Especialmente significativa es la mención a la cesión por parte del monarca de parte del uso del molino conocido como Atea (Huarte) a la catedral pamplonesa. Nos da la idea de la importancia económica del Valle de Egüés como centro de producción agrícola para la monarquía navarra. Probablemente desde los inicios de su expansión (siglos VII a IX) esta dinastía ya se apoyó en el valle de Egüés para levantar su poderío económico, que es lo que intentaban hacer con la sede episcopal de Pamplona en el momento de la cesión de tierras y derechos que consta en el documento del que hablamos. Siglo XII. Es el siglo en el que realizando un esfuerzo económico sin precedentes el valle lleva a cabo la construcción de las 17 grandes edificaciones religiosas románicas que aún hoy conserva.

This article evaluates the presence of Muslim communities in the Kingdom of Navarre in the late Middle Ages. Following the Christian Reconquest of the Navarrese bank of the Ebro in 1119, a sizeable Muslim community remained in Christian territory until 1516. This article focuses on the fifteenth century, a period for which religious coexistence in the smallest of the Iberian Christian kingdoms is in need of further contextualisation. An analysis of existing scholarship and new archival evidence throws light on the economic activities of the Muslims in Tudela as well as on their relationship with the Navarrese monarchy, their collective identity, their legal systems and their relationships not only with their Christian and Jewish neighbours, but also with other Iberian Muslim communities including those of Al Andalus, or Moorish Iberia. 1. INTRODUCTION Tudela, which was the main urban settlement of the Merindad de la Ribera throughout the Middle Ages, housed the largest Mudejar, Moorish or Muslim community, of the Kingdom of Navarre for over four cen- turies.1 In early 1119, the Navarrese–Aragonese kingdom of Alfonso I, also known as ‘the Warrior King’, regained the Navarrese bank of the Ebro for Christianity.2 However, the Moors would not leave these lands until 1516 when Navarre, four years after uniting with Castile, finally adopted the 1502 Castilian law which ruled that Moorish communities had to convert to Christianity or else go into exile.
