THE HEADQUARTERS - BUILDING 81 The National Army Museum’s Meeting facility, Building 81 dates back to 1941 when The Public Works Department was enlisted to construct a permanent training ground on a large area of land in . prior to this development existed primarily under canvas. The camp was originally scheduled for completion in 1940 however work men and timber at The Headquarters - Building 81 times ran short. Once completed the training facility could accommodation seven battalions. Building 81’s history includes operating for a time as the Waiouru Training Depot Head Quarters. Currently Building 81 is one of the oldest remaining buildings of the 1940’s development and was transported to the Museum site from the OCS Parade Ground. Renovations have been completed to include the main meeting area, board- room and break out area. Further developments are underway to complete extensions including a 5 panel bi folding doors system, lavatory facilities Meeting Room and wooden deck which will boast expansive views of Mt Ruapehu and the proposed War World 1 Battlefield* designed with the creative assistance of Sir Peter Jackson. Situated an easy driving distance from Taupo and , and placed as great midway point between and , the Nation- al Army Museum is the ideal meeting location. Our close proximity to Army facilities makes for a unique and exciting destination conference.

*The Western Front World War One Battlefield is due to be completed in 2016 to coincide with the 100 Centenary of the Western Front. Boardroom

Behind the Scenes Tour Pye Range Military Vehicle Collection The National Army Museum has an extensive military hardware collection including military vehicles, tanks and field guns from all over the world. Museum floor space limits the number of public display therefore many of these artefacts are housed in a restoration facility based in the Waiouru Military Camp. M548 Tracked Vehicle Rides Enjoy the exhilaration of being aboard an armoured personnel carrier. The M548 Armoured Personnel Carrier was designed in 1966 for US Army. It was primarily an ammunition resupply vehicle. The large cargo hold has a watertight door to enable the M548 to be amphibious, propelled in the water by its tracks.

Behind the Scenes Tour Textiles - Uniforms Over the Ages Experience a behind the scenes tour of the museum’s textile collection. The collection includes uniforms, hats, flags and hand embroidered fabrics. See first hand how these precious artefacts are cared for, preserved and stored awaiting exhibition. ACTIVITIES

GOLF (18 holes) Waiouru is home to New Zealand’s highest Golf Course. Break out to the course for 9 holes with stunning views of Mt Ruapehu or take the afternoon to complete the full course.

THE OUTDOORS The Ruapehu region hosts an array of mountain bike and hiking tracks. The museum is also in close proximity to white water rafting, clay bird shooting and bungy jumping.
