EVENTS THIS MONTH DATE EVENT Monday 19th September Snowdogs by the Sea to 27th November The Martlets Hospice has teamed up with Wild in Art to stage an extraordinary public art trail in Brighton & Hove this autumn. A pack of Snowdog puppy sculptures designed by local school children will be on display. Jubilee Library has 5 Snowpups from and Elm Grove Primary Schools. The workshop is free but booking is essential. To find out how to book a place, submit work and for more information go to www.tightmodern.org.uk Tight Modern is a touring miniature replica of London’s iconic Tate Modern and is believed to be the world smallest temporary gallery. It will be arriving at Jubilee library on November 18th. Deadline for submissions to exhibit - 30th October 2016 Tight Modern is produced by Creative Future, an award-winning charity based in Brighton that provides training, mentoring and showcasing opportunities for talented writers and artists who lack opportunities due to mental health issues, disability, identity, health or social circumstances. EXHIBITIONS DATE EVENT Wednesday 28th State of Control showcases new work (a series of photographs) by a September to Tuesday 1st group of young people from Brighton & Hove who have been working November with artist Lindsey Smith to explore themes of identity, belonging, representation and youth culture in relation to the theme of Brighton Photo Biennial 2016. In the Library Wednesday 12th October Mind in Awareness of mental health services and support available in the city. In the Information Point. Wednesday 19th October Shared Lives Promoting Shared Lives with the aim of recruiting more carers. Shared Lives is a scheme which links people who need help and support to live in the community with people who can provide that help and support in their own home. In the Information Point.

Friday 30th September to Brighton Photo Biennial: The Dandy Lion Project Tuesday 1st November Dandy Lion explores the global phenomenon of the Black Dandy in popular culture. The exhibition presents more than 150 images from over thirty photographers and filmmakers and is curated from an international open call by US curator, Shantrelle P Lewis. The first comprehensive exhibition of its kind, this project highlights young men in city-landscapes, defying stereotypical and monoliths understandings of Black masculinity, by remixing Victorian-era fashion with traditional African sartorial sensibilities. This European premiere of Dandy Lion follows acclaimed showings at Museum of Contemporary Photography – Chicago and Museum of African Diaspora – San Francisco. In the Window and the Foyer.
