Answer in brief. 1. Where were Dorothy and her friends going and why? Ans: Dorothy and her friends, the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman, were walking through the thick woods to reach the Emerald City to meet the Great Wizard of Oz. 2. What did the Cowardly Lion do to the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman while they were walking through the forest? Ans: With one blow of his paw,the Cowardly Lion sent the Scarecrow spinning over and over to the edge of the road. Then he struck at the Tin Woodman with his sharp claws. 3. Why did the Cowardly Lion decide to go with them and what did they all do? Ans: The lion wanted to ask Oz to give him courage as his life was simply unbearable without a bit of courage. The Mountaineers Players present The Wizard of Oz at the magical Kitsap Forest Theater in Bremerton May 28-29, June 3-4, 10-11, 17-18; 2017 – 2:00 pm Contact: 206-542-7815; [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BREMERTON, WA – The tradition of outdoor theater is alive and well at the Kitsap Forest Theater, and continues this spring with The Wizard of Oz. Each weekend from Memorial Day through Father’s Day the Mountaineers Players will present this beloved classic musical. Both residents of the Kitsap Peninsula and visitors from Seattle and beyond will delight in this family-friendly production at the beautiful Kitsap Forest Theater, located just west of Bremerton. A quarter-mile trail transports visitors to another time and place where stories for all ages have come to life since 1923. The presentation of our spring show coincides with the blooming of the wild rhododendrons that grow along the hillsides and down the trail to the theater. Generations of theatergoers have enjoyed the scenic drive or ferry ride to the theater, and often come early to picnic under the firs before the trail to the theater opens at 1:00 pm. Enjoy our treehouse play structure or hike to Big Tree before or after the show. With The Wizard of Oz in the spring and Tarzan in the summer, the Kitsap Forest Theater’s 2017 season brings two popular shows to life on our unique stage. These uplifting and family-friendly musicals will appeal to young and old alike – treat yourself to a “day away” in the forest and enjoy theater inspired by a magical place. -

Audition Side 1: Miss Gulch, Uncle Henry, Aunt Em, Dorothy Miss Gulch rides along the country road on a bicycle. Farmhands exit. Miss Gulch stops in front of Gale's home. Uncle Henry moves forward to meet her. Miss Gulch: Mr. Gale! Uncle Henry: Howdy, Miss Gulch. Miss Gulch: I want to see you and your wife right away about Dorothy! Uncle Henry: Dorothy? Well, what has Dorothy done? Miss Gulch: What’s she done? I’m all but lame from the bite on my leg. Uncle Henry: You mean, she bit you? Miss Gulch: No, her dog! Uncle Henry: Oh, she bit her dog, eh? Miss Gulch: No! Dorothy and Aunt Em enter. Dorothy is carrying Toto i n her arms. Miss Gulch: (seeing Toto) That dog’s a menace to the community. I’m going to take him to the sheriff and make sure he is destroyed. Dorothy: Destroyed? Toto? Oh, you can’t! You mustn’t! Miss Gulch shows order to Uncle Henry and goes to take Toto from Dorothy. Dorothy screams at Miss Gulch. Uncle Henry reads the order. Then, takes Toto from Dorothy and places him in Miss Gulch’s basket. Auntie Em! Uncle Henry! You won’t let her, will you? Uncle Henry: Of course, we won’t. Will we, Em? Dorothy: Please, Aunt Em, Toto didn’t mean to. (Dorothy takes Toto back out of the basket.) He didn’t know he was doing anything wrong. I’m the one that ought to be punished. I let him go in her garden. You can send me to bed without supper… Miss Gulch: If you don’t hand over that dog, I’ll bring a damage suit that’ll take out your whole farm! There’s a law protecting folks against dogs that bite.
