Everlong – (Free Quick Study)

QUICK NOTES:

•This song is in Drop D tuning, so tune your Low E to D. (D, A, D, G, B, e)

•There are two guitars that play here, but both of them are very similar to each other.

•There are no lyrics or chord prompts in this video, but there will be in the official lesson.

•Count out 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and start with either guitar.

Guitar 1: This is the rhythm/vocal guitar

•This is what Dave plays and sings. Luckily you don't have to hear me do this. He's there.

Guitar 2: This is the lead guitar

•This is what plays and has a few added twists to it, but it's easy.

Guitar 1:

This is EVERYTHING Grohl plays. As mentioned before, these are just the plotted chords. Simply follow along with this tab and you can play every part of the song. •Main Theme: It might take a second to get the feel for it, but the main theme is just played over and over until you reach the end of the SECOND lyrical phrase of "...she sang"

•Build-Up: This is played over the "....and I wonder..." part. It is repeated until the end of the lyrical phrase "...when I sing along with you..."

•Chorus: This one is easy to hear. It's the "If everything..." part. Repeat this until the end of the lyrical phrase "you gotta promise not to...." which then moves into the Chorus-Turn above.

•Chorus-Turn: You play this RIGHT when you hear Grohl say "...stop" and then end on the "5"when he says "...when."

Other than that, you have the nuts n' bolts of the song! Here's guitar 2, which is only slightly different.

Guitar 2:

This guitar part mostly just echoes what you already learned, but there are a few things that Shiflett does that adds to the song. At the beginning of the song Chris just strums the same thing Grohl does, just more one chord at a time. When you hear the drum beat (the actual beat, not the hi-hat) you begin strumming it just like Grohl. Once you reach the verse theme, this is what you play:

That is played over everything until you reach the "5" and "7" from the main theme further above. During that part you play this:

I didn't even strum out the 4/7 part. I just kinda hit it, held it, and then went back to the original theme concept. You can see the last two measures directly above are the same as what you saw above it.

It's really simple!

Chris plays EVERYTHING identical to Grohl until the quiet part. He plays the same theme, which is this: ...over and over. When you watch my video you'll see what I mean. Just play that until you hear the build, and then go back to this again:

Finally - one more part.

This is played over and over right after the drumroll comes in (near the middle/end of the song). It's when Grohl is singing "and I wonder" again. Play it over and over and go back to the chorus/chorus-turn part. End on the "5" and the song is DONE!

Here are the lyrics to the song in case you want to use them to keep up.

Hello, I've waited here for you

Tonight I throw myself in two Out of the red, out of her head she sang

Come down and waste away with me Down with me

Slow, how you wanted it to be I'm over my head, out of her head she sang

And I wonder When I sing along with you

If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang

Breathe out, So I can breathe you in Hold you in

And now, I know you've always been Out of your head, out of my head I sang And I wonder When I sing along with you

If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang

And I wonder

If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
