EXISTING PROBLEMS AND CITY ANALYSIS In the last decade, it can be observed that immigration has massively grown. Record-breaking numbers of migrants are moving across international borders, fleeing conflict, persecution, poverty and other life- threatening situations. It is also due to labour and skill shortages and demographic changes, which makes make people to seek better opportunities elsewhere. The large displacement of populations has broader implications for the social, economic and political landscape. But society must be prepared to be welcoming, instead of stablishing discrimination and prejudices. Each country’s Governments need to deal with it, managing diversity and facilitating integration for these collectives. In the case of Roquetas de Mar, a municipality in the province of Almeria within the Andalucia region of Spain, its population has significantly grown since 1990s. This is due to the so call “Plastic Sea”, the most important intensive agricultural environment on the planet, whose human structures can be observed from space. The city has in agriculture and tourism its main economic engines, concentrating with its 22 km of coast a third of the hotel supply of the province. Its population has multiplied by 2.5 in the last 20 years thanks mainly to the massive arrival of immigrants, coming from a large part of Eastern Europe and the Southern Mediterranean, alluvial population that has radically changed the composition of a city in that 104 nationalities coexist, and that it is the eleventh youngest in Andalusia, with an average age of 35.5 years.

    Chapter Intensive Habitat Loss in South Spain: Arborescent Scrubs with Ziziphus (5220*) Antonio J. Mendoza-Fernández, Esteban Salmerón-Sánchez, Fabián Martínez-Hernández, Francisco J. Pérez-García, Agustín Lahora, María E. Merlo and Juan F. Mota Abstract The habitat arborescent matorral with Ziziphus (5220*) was included in the Habitats Directive of the European Commission. These plant formations represent the maximum potential vegetation in a very restrictive arid environment, since it encompasses endemic, tropical, or Maghrebian floristic elements, and from other areas of the ancient Thetis Sea. In fact, the version of this community with Gymnosporia senegalensis (Lam.) Loes. [=Maytenus senegalensis (Lam.) Exell] constitutes extraordinarily singular flora formations in the Iberian southeast. These are unique communities in Europe and ecologically extremely valuable and, however, have been included among the Europe’s most endangered habitats. The vast economic development experienced in South Spain based on the remarkable transformation of traditional farming patterns into a highly profitable agriculture that uses industrial production methods and the groundwater intensively (agri- culture intensification and land-use change), in addition to urbanization without sustainable land planning, determines that European G. senegalensis populations are seriously threatened by severe habitat destruction and fragmentation. Introduction Mediterranean arborescent scrubs with Ziziphus Mill. species have been coded as habitat 5220* (arborescent matorral with Ziziphus) and included in the Habitats Directive of the European Commission since 1992 [1], which lists Europe’s most endan- gered and vulnerable habitats. These plant communities, recognized in the Iberian Southeast, Cyprus, Sicily, and surrounding islands, are composed mainly by pre-desert deciduous scrub with Ziziphus lotus (L.) Lam.

El Auditorio Universitario se vestirá de gala para acoger, este viernes día 28 de abril, a los numerosos invitados que se espera asistan al evento. El objetivo de la iniciativa no es otro que propiciar las relaciones interprovinciales y fomentar la colaboración entre los pueblos más grandes y más pequeños atendiendo al número de habitantes. Así, los quince municipios con mayor población se hermanarán con los quince con menos habitantes. La actividad comenzará a las 11.30 horas, con el recibimiento por parte del rector de la UAL, Alfredo Martínez Almécija, de los alcaldes firmantes, en la Sala de Reuniones del Rectorado. El acto académico se celebrará a partir de las 12.00 horas en el Auditorio. Tras unas palabras de bienvenida del rector, se procederá a la entrega de placas conmemorativas y a la firma de los convenios. Además, de la comparecencia de los alcaldes, un representante de la Diputación provincial pronunciará unas breves palabras. El acto contará también con una parte lúdica; la actuación de la Banda de Música de la Federación Andaluza y, finalmente, de uno de los grupos de la Federación de Agrupaciones de Carnaval de Almería (FEALCA). El hermanamiento se celebra como colofón a una serie de actuaciones encaminadas a acercar la Universidad a la provincia y potenciar las relaciones entre los pueblos.

It is segmented in several faults that have been active between the Upper Tortonian and present day. Data from drill cores in the Palomares area have permitted us to define the geometry and location of sedimentary depocentres related with the PFZ. These data show an eastward displacement between the Upper Tortonian to Messinian and the Pliocene–Quaternary sedimentary depocentres, towards the presently active Arteal fault, which bounds the western mountain front of Sierra Almagrera, showing that deformation along this fault zone has migrated towards the east, from the Palomares segment, with its main activity during the Upper Tortonian and Messinian, towards the Arteal fault, active during the Pliocene and Quaternary.
