1. List of Projects Undertaken by Computer Engg. Departments, Faculty of Technology and brief details about them

A. INDRADHANUSH : August 2010 to October 2013

Wordnet is a computational lexicon useful for many applications like Machine Translation, Search etc. Unlike traditional dictionary, Wordnet organizes words as a graph which is useful for Machine processing. Indowordnet is an effort to create a linked Wordnet of 18 Indian Languages. Department of Computer Engg., Dharmsinh Desai University is involved in the development of Gujarati Wordnet as a part of INDRADHANUSH project (http://www.cfilt.iitb.ac.in/gujarati/ ). INDRADHANUSH is an Integrated WordNet for Gujarati, Konkani, Oriya, Punjabi, Marathi, Bangla and Languages (http://www.cfilt.iitb.ac.in/indowordnet/ ) The research consortium Composed of following 7 institutes University, Goa IIT Bombay University, Hyderabad , Thapar University, Patiala Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad Jawaharlal Nehru University,

The project was funded by Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Govt. of India. The project contributed in the development of an extremely rich and useful lexical base for the above languages which would facilitate: (a) Automatic bi-lingual dictionary construction (b) Machine Translation between these languages and English (c) Machine Translation between these languages and (d) Machine translation amongst these languages themselves (e) Cross lingual Information Retrieval

B. English to Indian Language Machine Translation System (EILMT / ANUVADAKSH )- Phase II : July 2010 to June 2015 To overcome language barrier and to encourage language plurality in India by using machine translation Department of Information Technology (DIT), Ministry of Communication & IT, Govt. of India came up with the mission of consortia for Machine Translation Systems. English to Indian Language Machine Translation (EILMT) consortium was formed as a part of this mission. The mandate was to develop Machine Translation from English to eight Indian languages in chosen language pairs namely English – Hindi, English – Bengali, English – Marathi, English – Oriya, English – Urdu and English – Tamil. English-Gujarati and English-Bodo. The project aim was to design, develop and deploy Machine Translation System from English to eight Indian Languages covering selected domains of correspondence/documents relating to Tourism and Health Domains. The sub-domains of the Tourism domain were decided as Information about tourist places, Travel & Accommodation Information. The sub-domains of the Health domain were decided Maternal and Child Healthcare and Communicable Diseases. The consortium Members are: Amrita University BV, Banasthali C-DAC, C-DAC, Pune (consortium leader) DDU,Nadiad IIIT Allahabad IIIT Hyderabad IIT Bombay Jadavpur University NEHU, Shillong NMU, Jalgaon Utkal University.

C. Remote Controlled Gyro Stabilized Camera Gimble Project : January 2015 to till date Developing a light weight radio controlled camera gimble with battery back up.

2. e-Yantra Robotics Competition at I.I.T. Mumbai In e-Yantra Robotics Competition, 2012, organized by Indian Institute of Technology- Bombay and sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource & Development, Government of India, our team had scored the third position among 35 teams from various across the country under the Pick-placer theme. In eYRC-13 again, the DDU team made it to the top 4 finalist teams who could complete the task in the category “Weeding Robot” out of 40 teams across the nation and competed at the finals organized at IIT Bombay on 28th March, 2014 and WON THE FIRST PRIZE. The team comprising of 4 students (Joel Manish Pinto 4th Semester Computer Engg – the team leader, Sanjay Raichura 8th Semester Computer Engg, Vishal Rajai and Anshul Panjabi, both 6th Semester EC Engg) enhanced the basic robot provided by IITB by building mechanisms and programming it to fulfil the task of weed clearance. Such a robot is potentially helpful for agriculture. The team was awarded a prize of Rs 20000 and has been offered a 6-week summer internship at IIT-B for continuing work on the weeding robot. The e-Yantra 2015 Robotics Competition was held at IIT, Mumbai in March, 2015 with a theme on Cargo Alignment. The DDU team was second only to IIT, Suratkal winning the cash prize of Rs. 16000/-.

3.GATE Result The department students have performed really well in GATE exams, which is basis for admission in Post Graduation courses in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other reputed institutes. To name few, Anuj Thakker scored 16th rank out of around 1.36 Lacs students in GATE 2011. Aashish Mittal scored 11th rank out of around 2.25 Lacs students in GATE 2013. Eleven students have scored more than 99 percentile in GATE 2014 result. The GATE 2015 results are also very encouraging with 13 students scoring more than 95 percentile out of 1,15,425 students with highest All India Rank of 51.

4. Computer Society of India (CSI Best branch awards) The CSI student branch, DDU, started in the year 2005, has won the best regional branch awards in Region III (, Madhya Pradesh & Rajasthan states) for the years 2008- 09, 2010-11, 2011-12 & 2013-14.

The faculty co-ordinator of CSI, Prof. Tushar Ratanpara, has been awarded the “young member active participation award for the year 2011-12” & Longest continuous student branch counselor for the years 2012-13 and 2013-14.

5. Major IT Recruiters The major IT recruiters comprises of Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahendra, Cap Gemini iGATE, Cybage, Persistent Systems, Zeus learning etc.

The highest package by an IT company for the 2016 batch students is Rs. 10 Lacs p.a. CTC. Infosys has selected 60 students from the department out of 121 total selection. Infact, the Faculty of Technology is among the only 4 colleges visited by Infosys in the Campus Recruitment for 2016 batch of students.

6. Preference of the Faculty of Technology in admission The admission in the Department is being carried out centrally by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), Government of Gujarat, based on State Board Result and Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) result, conducted by CBSE, Govt. of India. As per the ACPC 2015 admissions, the department stands among top 3 institutes in the state of Gujarat.
