Ashley Peeples always dreamed of being a fashion stylist, and since she opened BEIGE, every day is a lesson in balance between building a brand and raising a family.

5 shley Peeples has taken on the daunting task of quitting coffee, so she starts every day with a matcha latte, then grabs her sunglasses and Acomputer, and heads out the door for work. Since she and her family relocated to downtown Little Rock, this means walking the short distance to BEIGE, where the mother of two can be found most days planning her next market trip, assisting customers, or doing any one of the millions of tasks required by small business owners. “When I was eight or so, I would dress up my sisters and neighborhood friends and we would do photo shoots and have fashion shows in our parents’ hallways,” she laughs. “I always knew I wanted to work in the industry in some form, I just didn’t know that entrepreneurship would be in my future.” But when BEIGE opened its doors in 2015, Ashley found herself with what at times felt like a third child to raise. “The most rewarding part is receiving compliments from customers on our store and the service that they experienced. My biggest goal is to give our customer a unique experience and offer friendly, helpful service.”

But she admits that finding the right balance between her work life and mom life is challenging. “I have learned to survive by making lists, prioritizing my responsibilities and making a point to be present in whatever I’m doing at the time.” For Ashley, a well-organized life means a simplified wardrobe, which was the philosophy that BEIGE was built on, and one that reflects Ashley’s personal style. “I normally wear structured pieces and play around with textures. I always feel best in my favorite jeans and tee,” she says. “I rarely wear anything fussy, and I would never wear pink. It’s just not going to happen.” She draws inspiration from timeless style icons of the 1960s and 70s, including Bianca Jagger, Lauren Hutton, Jane Birkin, and Bridget Bardot, but credits Prince as her lifestyle muse. “He always stayed true to himself and made it cool to be different,” Ashley says. “My nana, who was the coolest lady I’ve ever known, would play Prince records when she did housework. Now it’s a tradition I have with my kids.”
