Cost Comparison 17. Manual 2 Activity Group 1-C Take an article of clothing made in a patterned fabric. Describe this fabric in your notebook, and write down all of the colors you could wear with it. For this activity I chose a leopard print T-shirt with a criss cross opening in the back. I can wear this T-shirt with denim, black, brown, or white. I can dress it up for church by adding black leggings with a brown zip-up jacket. I can dress it down for school by wearing shortalls with the T-shirt. I can also put it with denim jeans to show in. With this shirt I can dress up or dress down. 3 Activity Group 1-C 4 Activity Group 2-C Not all good grooming habits are included in this chart. Observe others, and think about yourself. What would you add? 5 Activity Group 2-C 6 Activity Group 3-C In your notebook, describe one of your favorite brands of clothing. Tell why you like it. My favorite brand of clothing is Peyton Bre. Their clothing is cute, comfortable, and affordable. They have dresses, rompers, jumpsuits, shirts, cardigans, capes, pants, and lots more. Peyton Bre is an online store with lots of bargains and deals. I will be shopping at Peyton Bre for as long as I can wear their clothing. 7 Activity Group 4-C Try on a garment you wore last year. Notice how it fits. Is it still wearable? In your notebook, describe how your body has changed during the year? For this activity I chose a romper. This romper is too short. When I lean forward or move my arms it pulls in the back. I’ve grown 2 inches since February and have also grown in my torso. For these reasons this outfit will go in the garage sale pile. 8 Activity Group 5-A Look for different types of hangers in your house and in a store. In your notebook list the types and discuss their purposes. (This topic would be good for a demonstration.) The different types of hangers that I found are wooden suit, pant/skirt, non-slip, notched plastic tubular, and plastic tubular. A wooden suit hanger keeps heavy coats and suits looking fabulous. I can use a pant/skirt hanger to hang dress pants, jeggings, and skirts on. A non-slip hanger will keep garments in place, such as dresses or dress pants. Notched tubular hangers can hold things with thin straps, such as a tank top. Plastic tubular hangers are good when you have shirts, jeans, and coats that need to be hung up. 9 Activity Group 6-C Ask a family member or an adult for a scrap of white fabric. Choose a dark or bright-colored garment such as dark blue jeans, red sweatshirt, or bright green T-shirt that has never been laundered. Rub the white cloth against the colored garment. Check for any tinge of color on the white cloth. The transfer of color (dye) to the white cloth is called “crocking.” Not all dyes will crock. Next, wet the white cloth with water. Rub it again to check for wet color transfer. Record the results. Indicate the problems color transfer might present when you wear and care for the garment. 10 Activity Group 6-C I chose denim jeans, a bright pink shirt, a burgundy long-sleeved shirt, and a navy blue shirt. The white cloth had color on it after I rubbed it on the denim jeans, when it was both wet and dry. All the other clothing dyes did not come off onto the white fabric. If you have denim jeans on with white undergarments, when you take the jeans off there would be a blue tinge on the undergarments. The same thing would happen if you sat on a light colored couch and had dark colored clothing on. There would be dark spots on the couch. If you wash whites and darks together the dark clothing would fade and dark spots would show up on the whites or the white clothes will look dingy. 11 Activity Group 6-C Dry Wet 12 Clothing Description This year for my Consumer Clothing project I purchased a distressed denim jacket. I made my purchase online at Glamour Farms. I always enjoy shopping for my Consumer Clothing outfit. My shopping experience was a bit different this year. I usually go to a store to purchase an outfit, but this year I shopped online. I was also able to purchase my item from the misses selections. In the past I only shopped in the children’s sections. I chose a denim jacket, because it is a very versatile item to add to my wardrobe. I can wear my jacket with many different articles of clothing I already have, including the mustard colored dress I paired it with. The jacket is 100% cotton and machine washable. This makes it very easy to care for. I love the outfit I put together this year from items out of my closet and the new one I purchased. I paired the denim jacket with a mustard colored 70% rayon, 30% polyester, sundress. I accessorized my outfit with items from my closet including a straw crossbody purse, yellow earrings, and brown wedge sandals. This outfit would be good to wear to school, church, or out with friends. 13 My Outfit 14 Mix and Match I can wear my jean jacket with many different items in my closet. It is perfect to wear to school, with friends, and shopping. I will be able to wear my jean jacket when the weather cools down by matching it with a black tank top and a skirt. I feel the item I purchased are a good addition to my 15 wardrobe. Cost Comparison Item Original Price Purchase Price Jean Jacket $36.00 $16.99 Sales Tax 7% $2.52 $1.19 Shipping $Free $Free Total Cost $38.52 $18.18 Total savings $18.34 I feel I got a great deal on the item I purchased. The jean jacket was originally $36.00 and I purchased it at a discounted price of $16.99. My total savings were $18.34. 16 17.

Contestant # Reader Script Leah, from the Central Kansas District, wanted to sew a nice, simple dress this year. The easy-care, floral fabric caught her eye when she noticed one of her favorite colors, corral. The pattern she chose proved to be more challenging than anticipated. However, once she deciphered a portion of the instructions, the difficulties slipped away. The full skirt makes for a very comfortable fit. Now she has a beautiful dress to wear to her senior 1 Brooklyn Hahn homecoming dance this fall. Strut your stuff; here comes Tamara, from Shawnee County, in her Senior prom dress. She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School this past May and is attending K-State, for Apparel and Textiles. Tamara loves the uniqueness of her dress, as she is the designer. She went dress shopping but never found a dress she loved so she took all the ideas she had and combined them into a one-of-kind dress. She has accessorized her dress with a belt that she created by hand stitching three strands of trim to a piece of ribbon. She has also paired her dress with a sparkly necklace and earrings as well as matching silver sparkly heels and a corsage made by her Grandma. Looking good Tamara! 3 Brooklyn Hahn Faith from Reno County knew that the wide ombre plaid she choose for this dress would need a limited amount of seems to get everything to match so she combined 2 different patterns to get the look she wanted. She used one pattern to create the bodice and a second pattern for the skirt.

  • Student of the Week: Ezekiel
Smith’s Scoop October 28, 2019 *Wear all black (or close to black) for our big Word Detective Celebration on Friday, November 1st! *Tuesday, October 29th is the fiftieth day of school, so first grade will dress up like the 1950’s. Please look for the Sign-Up Genius to volunteer to help make the children root- beer floats from 12:30 – 1:40. If you want to have your child be all-in and get completely dressed up, go for it! Girls - Poodle skirts, dresses, traditional sweater, fake pearls, bobby socks, pony tails, etc. Boys – rolled up jeans and t-shirts, rolled up kakis, dress shirt, traditional sweater or V-neck pull over, team jacket, jean jacket, bomber jacket, slicked-back hair, etc. Please just have fun. If your child is shy, make sure they wear jeans and I will roll them up! We will have root-beer floats and chew bubble gum. This covers some of our social studies standards of comparing the past to present. We will be seeing how people dressed, how TV shows like Andy Griffith were in black & white, we will listen and dance to 1950’s songs, and read children books from the 1950’s. ! We will have writing assignments and math centers from the 1950’s. I hope that you enjoy the process of building a Veteran’s Day mini-float with your child. You may decide to just let your child do it with household items like shoe or cereal boxes. You may want to help and even get a few special things for the float.

  • Embellished Jean Jacket”
“Embellished Jean Jacket” Turn a plain denim blazer into a fashion statement by using your Baby Lock Embellisher to enhance the pocket flaps and collar lapels. This quick and easy project will add so much to your outfit and can be accomplished in an evening or an afternoon. Once you see how simple it is to take something plain and make it into something special, you will want to do more! Created by: Margo Duke of Her Majesty Margo Margo Duke of Her Majesty Margo has always had a penchant for working with color and fine materials of all kinds. The love of wool is also in her genes as her Mother’s family originated in Stornoway, an island of the North coast of Scotland. Her family was very involved in all steps of creating Harris Tweed, from raising the sheep through the actual weaving. One of her Mother’s cousins was instrumental in traveling to London and making the case for having the name “Harris Tweed” stamped on every yard, which is still done today. It wasn’t until Margo fell in love with the Baby Lock Embellisher that it all came together and she began insatiably experimenting with the things she loves most. The first moment she saw a demonstration at her local Baby Lock dealer, she understood the possibilities and could hardly wait until her machine arrived. It hasn’t ceased to provide endless hours of pleasure in the years since. Baby Lock Project: Ribbon-Accent Towels Page 1 of 4 Supplies: • Baby Lock Embellisher • Water soluble fabric stabilizer • Base – very fine material such as chiffon for a stabilizer (this does not have to be silk); strips of 2” silk/rayon velvet length of each component to be covered plus 2” to EACH piece • Coordinating fiber such as wool and/or silk • Small snippets of yarns/ribbon/silk hankie (optional) in chosen color Instructions: 1.
